So it seems most of the squad is up for sale.

Beyond the 3 mooted off-limits players, we do have so many issues.

Heaton, Varane, Evans and Shoretire are likely off for free with Martial (please, please, please) finally going away.
Lindelof and AWB on extensions.
Maguire, Kambwala, McTominay, Eriksen and Amad each carrying only the value as determined by the market in light of just a single remaining year on their respective contracts.
That's so far 12 players who won't bring in a fortune.

Then, we have those with significant or perhaps worsening injury crises - Martinez, Shaw, Malacia and Mount.
That's now 16 players for whom we wouldn't get what we want.

Then come the old legs and the one-legged - Casemiro and Antony.
Now we're at 18.

Then the keepers - Onana and Bayindir.
20.

20 from a squad of 27 who would bring in much less than we'd like.
After those 20 and after sending back Amrabat, we're left with 6 players with decent sale value - Dalot, Bruno and Rashford, plus the 3 youngsters.

Even the loanees won't help much.

We really are in a proper little pickle, aren't we?

Devil's advocate here.

Assume we were to install a new manager tomorrow.
They would hold a presser and questions would quickly turn to our squad etc.
How would it be received if the new manager stated that they 'have a bit of work to do' in the transfer market and on the training pitch in order to solidify the group and start moving in the right direction to them be able to compete 'at the top' again.

This is no different to what EtH is stating, of course he has his manner in which he delivers it, but it would be no different.

Let's face the facts. Manchester United, are tripe. Don't gloss it up. They are that bad currently, yet, for all their badness, yes they have still linked to where they are this season.

Another flush of the still remaining tripe this summer, a couple of new faces, and we will be less tripe, and a bit more heading towards some liver and onions, with a side of 'boiled to oblivion veg'.
Still some way off the pinnacle of mummies roast beef with mummies roast spuds and all the trimmings, but hey, no one is mastering that in a couple of summers and a few hundred million.

ED002,

If Utd were to appoint TT as their next manager, would there need to be any compensation paid to BM?

I know that they have agreed for him it leaves the club.

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

A follow up question, if you don’t mind, Ed002.

If a club sacks a manager and then the manager finds a new job a few months later, are the sacking club still
obliged to pay off the duration of their contract (or whatever amount was agreed in said contract)?

 0

{Ed002's Note - It is unreleted to the duration of his contract. There will either be a payment that needs to be made to the manager and his coaching staff which is pre-agreed or they would need to negotiate with his agent.}

What’s your view on Tuchel Ed?

 0

{Ed002's Note - As I said, he should be above Southgate and Potter as an option. Known to Jim Ratcliffe.}

We may not be very good, but to say the games are boring, from a neutral perspective, is completely off the mark. No game is ever dead when United are ahead. If you want boring watch Manchester City.

29 Apr 2024 03:43:39
Manchester City are far from boring from my point of view. They are a brilliant team. Technically all the players are fantastic and the niceness is great to watch.
When teams sit back on their 18yard line and just defend that's tough but that's not city being boring at all imo.
They don't have the flair of Messi and the same intricate passing of his Barcelona team but a lot of the hallmarks are there.
Every player can manipulate the ball so well and their support of each other in possession is top class.
I could never be bored watching tj quality personally.

 1

29 Apr 2024 09:50:25
I wouldn't be a huge fan of watching City. I think because the players are so drilled to do a role (which is brilliant coaching), is not really what excites me. I prefer when players have more freedom of expression and display their skills. But I appreciate that they are a well disciplined team.

 0

29 Apr 2024 10:25:25
I completey disagree, i think every player in that team has freedom of expression. They are brilliant to watch.
I don't even see how this is up for discussion.

We can now no longer mathematically make top four, No Champions League football next season. The plans will have to be made without the income from that. In previous seasons when that happened there were indications the manager had a clause in his contract about meeting that. I read the managers pay would be reduced I think by 25%, but given it was the trigger to sack Moyes, it may be difficult for ETH and perhaps less costly for the club to sack the manager .

They are bringing in best in class, so why would they stick with ETH who has not achieved one of the key objectives, do they really believe ETH is best in class? Experienced eyes are not seeing one of the most entertaining teams in the league, a ridiculous claim. I am often told on here to ignore comments by managers after games, yet who is that nonsense yesterday aimed at?
It's a deluded claim, yet one by someone who knows he has failed the club key objective.

I started by saying the finances will take a hit because of ETH failure to achieve Champions League football. SJR is also here to win, yes, he maybe realistic on how long it will take to challenge for the league but how will he feel when his manager has already conceded next years league title? Maybe he is right yet so much for positivity, so much for visualisation technique. To raise the white flag over Old Trafford like this sticks in my craw quite honestly. How can we entice players to sign when our own manager, the one they want to play for has given up the ghost already, more than a year in advance. Admitting that is his Moyes, be like City comment and telling Rio and Vidic to watch Jagielka. Unacceptable to say this in public, unforgivable.

Plans have got to be put in place now, knowing who the manager will be, July 1st is far too late. I cannot see how the top professionals they are bringing in, can possibly think ETH is the right one and it will reduce with every game and pronouncement. They have to have made a decision by now, they have to be planning based on certainty of who they want in charge, not someone appointed two years ago by the previous regime.

 4

28 Apr 2024 17:12:28
Club will change if those defining strategy want possession based football. ETH seems obsessed with transition, which is why our midfield is absent defensively. I can think of very few, if any, teams that won major honours domestically or internationally with that turgid approach.

 2

28 Apr 2024 18:08:09
There is more than one way to play "possession" football. ETH came to OT, and with the players he signed, looked like he wanted to implement some of the possession fundamentals. To completely abandon it in his second season is a huge mystery to me.

Regardless of ETH staying or going, next season will have to be considered "Year 0" of a rebuild as INEOS will be asking any manager to implement THEIR style of play. ETH has effectively wasted 400M and 2 years of time.

Shocking that we find ourselves in this position again, but I choose to look at ETH as the last mistake of the Glazer era.

Tuchel it is then. Exciting.

You're all as predictable as the English cuisine.
Boring, predictable and lacking substance.
For this repetitive nonsense I really hope they stick with EtH.
Sure, it's EtHs fault the players didn't turn up as a group every week.

I think ETH is a dead man walking now and he will definitely be gone in the summer even if he wins the FA cup, the fact the crowd is booing his changes in the games is damming.

No man management
No Game management
No media management

Add to that the comments after games are becoming more and more delusional, a stronger manager is needed.

Really wanted it to work for ETH but he has not helped himself one bit.

I’d like to ask you all and Ed002 about what do you see possible for next season?

Me?

Arsenal - probably stronger by signing a good CF

Man City - hopefully the PL will grow a pair and relegate them and hopefully strip the. Of all their trophies - oil will run out and the stadium be knocked down for a KFC or something

Liverpool - too much change at manager and okaying staff

Spurs - keep their hands in their pockets and just clear the place pov other teams.

 0

{Ed002's Note - Arsenal are looking to a new Centre Forward as you say, but they need to remove someone from their forward line to make space - else Havertz to an AM role. The Premier League are not responsible for handing out punishments and I don't see the matter concluded before the start of next season. Stripping them of titles is not an option. Players will depart and arrive at Liverpool but the change of coach should not make too much of a difference. Spurs are looking at changes.}

ONE position and the ideal realistic player Utd should prioritise this summer?

I know we need many and it’s hard to gauge until players have left. Many feel had we had proper CB or LB options in the last few months we’d be much better off.

For me it’s a position that we probably haven’t filled adequately since Scholes retired. Hell, we even called him out of retirement. A CM to compliment Bruno and Mainoo. Quite a fan of Wieffer at Feyenoord. McKennie also suggested as a target. Two perhaps low key but realistic options.

 0

27 Apr 2024 18:06:50
Weston McKennie was rubbish at Leeds.

Going back to your point though, Striker! A proper world class striker who’ll get us goals.

I like Hojlund, you can see he ‘gets’ playing for United but he’s not the answer for us in our current state. I’d happily have him as understudy to a decent striker.

 3

27 Apr 2024 19:22:20
2toms you could put any centre forward in the world in this team, they’d struggle.

He’s being asked to be a target man and pin defenders. We never get him in behind or try to use his pace. We never cross the ball to him, his movement if you watch him in the box isn’t bad at all.

A young kid hung out to dry.

 7

27 Apr 2024 19:58:07
Totally agree Caolan, how often does he get the ball other than when he has his back to goal 30 yards out!

It does not matter who we have if they never get the ball. We must have solid foundations before anything else. Name me a team who have consistently challenged, successfully, for highest honours without a holy trinity of goalkeeper, centre back, centre back. I feel nothing is more important. I do not want gold taps in the bathroom, if the house is built on quicksand!

On this issue, don't know if true, but a number of reports today we are in talks with representatives of Ronald Araujo to discuss a deal, really hope this is true as I think he is a fantastic centre back and would be a terrific addition.

 2

27 Apr 2024 20:15:01
Honestly, Ruud wouldn’t get goals in this team.

There’s nothing thrown into the box for him to attack.

 2

28 Apr 2024 01:04:25
Centre back or dominant defensive midfielder. Ideally both.

 2

28 Apr 2024 10:35:58
Salford, those 2 positions change any team. They have to be the priority.

 1

28 Apr 2024 12:53:51
I'd say 2 center midfielders are priority. A defensive minded one and a ball playing one.
After that a center back.
I'm not convinced by hojlund but like you say he's feeding on scraps. Which brings up why we signed a striker like that with how ten hag sets up the team.

 0

28 Apr 2024 15:06:53
Goalkeeper.

 1

28 Apr 2024 15:54:37
Salford, totally agree, imo centre back and dominant defensive midfielder are the priority, then another centre back.

Not sure on Onana, since world cup his actual keeping has improved significantly, but his distribution has been poor and the time he spends with the ball at his feet really annoys, but then again does he have those in front of him who can deal with the ball in those positions?

 0

27 Apr 2024 12:26:09
Ten Haag now claiming that the best we can hope for next season is a third or fourth placed finish. At this point, I wonder whether he's trying to get sacked. Am sure Eneos will be keen to drop a few hundred million more on his godawful signings just to secure a fourth placed finish.

And before people point out the obvious; yes, we have been miles off the pace this season and are unlikely to mount a serious title challenge next season. The fact that he's publicly throwing in the towel before a ball has even being kicked is pathetic though. What kind of message does that send to the players? To potential signings? To the fans?

This man is a joke, and not the funny kind.

 4

27 Apr 2024 13:43:37
But he’s absolutely correct. So why is he a joke?

A cup and 3/ 4th is a wonderful achievement and progress.

 5

27 Apr 2024 14:53:09
He has the most expensive squad ever assembled at his disposal, with £400m spent during his tenure to date. If given his way, I’m sure he’ll spend another £100m+ in the summer. Leicester won the league with a squad that cost just a fraction of that, and, man for man, was far less talented.

It’s unlikely that we’ll win the league next season, but stranger things have happened. For him to throw in the towel before the season has even started shows just how weak his mentality is. It’s little wonder that we’re so prone to collapse under his leadership and the fact that he’s already making excuses for next season is as embarrassing as some of our recent performances.

There were a million ways to answer that question. He chose the very worst.

 1

27 Apr 2024 16:04:48
It's pathetic the murmmering and ramblings of a dead man walking. If it wasn't for financial reasons he'd have been gone at Xmas.
Out the door and down the road with ya.

 1

27 Apr 2024 18:05:58
@Eric79 so doing what we did last season is progress? Can you hear yourself? Wonderful?

 1

27 Apr 2024 19:25:21
Yes. The club and squad ETH took on was a shambles, and still is. We’ve literally not sold a single player apart from Elanga. This team needs £1b worth of investment, not 300-400m.

3/ 4th and a cup is an astounding achievement right now given the state of play where we are at.

 2

28 Apr 2024 02:24:55
The squad he took over finished second the season before he came in. Now, after adding £400m+ worth of “talent” (and, if he has it his way, another £100m+ this summer), they’re incapable of finishing in the top two? Make it make sense.

Beating Coventry on penalties and then getting thumped by City in the final is not an achievement, nor is finishing outside the top six.

28 Apr 2024 10:40:10
Yes come on, let's have Southgate or Potter!

Honestly, some of the fans on here. The man is in at a club that is so disfunctional. He deserves to be properly judged once he has the correct structure and players of a decent caliber in the correct positions.

He still plays with players from a mixmash of 3 previous managers. We are in a 3rd cup final in 2 years and people want him sacked.

Fergie finished 13th, 13th and 12th in 3 of his first 4 seasons. I'm glad forums like this weren't around back then, I can't imagine the abuse that would've been thrown around.

Get around ETH, build a structure, give him the players and then judge him. The club has time on their hands now to do the right things. It's either that or get Southgate, let's see how long lasts on here 😂.

Didn’t think our injury problems could get any worse, just seen now that Martial is expected to return before the end of the season! 😩.

 4

26 Apr 2024 14:49:06
He’ll probably get injured on the lap of honour at the last home game ❤️.

 0

26 Apr 2024 15:10:19
Still, you won't see him cupping his ears - they might fall off.

 1

26 Apr 2024 17:45:20
Ports

Allegedly a favourite of one of the Glazers and Martial will now look to a new 5 year contract extension on double his wages. Old Trafford will be knocked down to provide a suitably sized treatment room for him.

 2

26 Apr 2024 18:58:24
😂😩 oh no. Antony Martial Stand is happening 😂 I like it when fans can agree on something! Martial needs to go!
