Hi ed!
Was just wondering if we are anywhere close on filling the sporting director position? Please tell me Rio and Fletcher was fake news on the media. Would be a disaster.
Thanks.

we ain't going to appoint one.
one should have already been appointed
yeah you can say it takes time but other clubs get things done no problem.

Supposedly the club want an inside man for the role. A name I saw suggested the other day as one that maybe should be considered but doesn't seem to be is Jordi Cruyff as he is an ex player who has actually held a director of football role before and been very successful at it.

Another year without a sporting director. I wonder if this club genuinely has ambition.
Another summer of wrong recruitment and we will be looking to sell this players next summer.

What is your opinion of Cruyff Shappy? I have no idea about his quality in the role but pretty sure would be better than Rio or Fletch.

Good shout Shappy!
Jordi Cruyff has been a Sporting Director for 7 years albeit at smaller clubs.
Like you say he fits the profile of using an ex player in a role and he was around at Utd when Ole was a player.

I don't know a great deal about him in that role, only that he has been successful in helping Maccabi Haifa become champions again after a long stint not competing. He over saw a couple of changes of manager while maintaining being competitive and retaining the title. He also bought well while in that role.
That said Manchester United are on a whole other level to Maccabi Haifa, it would be a significant step up. However, you'd have to believe that he would have a huge advantage in such a role over people such as Fletcher or Rio who have never performed in such a role.

*Maccabi Tel Aviv obviously. lol.

Folks, Rio and Fletch are being considered for the recruitment committee (ah la Liverpool) not the DOF position.
