I'm not going to be popular but I think scousers have bought some decent players and have 2 very good strikers in Benteke and sturridge and two excellent young strikers in ings and origi.
While we have Rooney and no one else as hernandez will be on his way and Wilson not good enough.
I think the scousers are going to surprise a lot of people this year.

They indeed have a lot of good attacking players. The problem for them is that only so many can be on the pitch at a time. Just like arsenal.

09 Aug 2015 16:28:54
is sturridge still injured .

09 Aug 2015 16:29:39
Wilson not good enough? We just writing our kids off now before they have chance to even properly prove themselves? Soon people will be abusing him on Twitter like Darron Gibson.

09 Aug 2015 16:30:54
Yes they'll finish 7th with Brenda sacked then they might appoint someone with a clue and then we can worry

09 Aug 2015 16:40:24
is this the same origi that was named in the worst league 1 team of the year??

09 Aug 2015 17:00:48
Schmidfield. I wrote a similar post about a week ago with regards to Liverpool. I think they're a major threat to our CL place

09 Aug 2015 18:02:57
Agreed stand United. I think they showed today that they're going to be a force.
Gds, I'm not writing any of our kids off, calm down. At present, Wilson is not good enough to be 2nd striker for Manchester United. Simple as that. Can you see him being striker at chelsea, arsenal, city? No, I didn't think so!

Schmidfield/Stand United

I think Liverpool are a threat to us as things stand because we still have not addressed two areas in the spine of our team plus we have a goalkeeping worry. At the moment we have a fight with Liverpool for 4th but top level arrivals could make the difference. If we buy less than top level we won't challenge. Up to the club now whether they want to challenge or not.

09 Aug 2015 18:13:37
How did Liverpool show today they are going to be a force? It's one game and they didn't do a lot. Arsenal lost 2-0 at home today to a mid table side so surely they're stuffed then already

Liverpool are not going to win the league but there are many on here that arrogantly believe we will automatically get top four above them. The question could be turned around to say what did we show yesterday that indicates we are going to be a force? Liverpool won a difficult away game at Stoke, never easy to do but based on the level of players I think we have a fight on our hands for 4th unless the club buys the players we need and that is a CB and a top forward.

09 Aug 2015 19:19:58
Red man.

I agree. If we sort GK out and buy a top CB and forward them I'm pretty comfortable in thinking we will make top 4 and possibly challenge. If we don't address the CB situation and go ahead with blind in the back four, and don't bring in a forward to address our clear lack of cutting edge, we will be dogging it out with Liverpool for 4th.

Some on here saying they will be 7th or 8th are just being ridiculous. They have improved their 11 with clyne, Milner, firmino and benteke. And in coutinho they have a player who can create something from
Nothing as shown today'. They will challenge

It would be unfair to say we are a 4th place team, because we would be the hardest team to beat in the league, we have 4 solid CMs and Blind and Fellaini that would almost control all midfield.
And 4 very hard working attackers in young Rooney depay and Mata who run a lot and help defensively.
A rock RB in Darmian, the only thing lacking is a LCB and a bit of sharpness to shaw's play.

I think we will get the title, with Pedro, CB and a GK. And would finish third at least without them.

Older united teams relied on certain star players to get them through but LVG is making a team, with the whole squad capable of playing in multiple positions and goals increasing from midfield.

United to the title!

We struggled to score goals last season and it continued yesterday. Rooney will score but has no threat or presence, if we don't address that we will be fighting for 4th in my opinion. Pedro is a good player but we would then need a top forward as well. Bale may be good enough on his own and that would be the difference in threat level. I think Rooney is on the decline, SAF saw it 2 years ago and to have him as our main striker is just high risk

Red Man,

In all honesty mate I think the league could be incredibly open this year but I do think we are better equipped than Liverpool.

It's early doors though and when we are 7/8 league games in we can make better assessments. If city go and slip up 2moro then that's the top 3 all slipping up on the opening game, which nobody would of put money on that happening.

Upfront we are not well equipped and Liverpool have more options. We have to address our shortcomings urgently to leave everyone in no doubt that we will not only be top 4 but challenging at the top end and that there wouldn't be any concerns about the scousers.

It isn't a judgement on one game but observation of our team as it stands.

I see where Schmidfield and Stand are coming from. It's a basic 'forwards compatison', they have more strength than us up front.
Origi, worst team of the year or not, is an exceptional talent. And Benteke has proved his worth already.
As redman says, we have a declining Rooney who would have been torn to pieces if Walker reflected his actual game form and kicked the Og wide whilst Rooney was in cloud cuckoo.
I'd be amazed if we didn't sign a striker. Son Heung-min/Lewandowski would be perrrrrrfect.

I do still hold out hope that Rooney sparks back into life though. Hence why he is captain of my Dreamteam
😉
