I like the "philosophy" behind this approach. Play the 1st team but give a small selection of youngsters the experience of mixing with the 1st team and playing better opposition. Wengers traditional way is basically the kids against better opposition but without giving them the experience of playing alongside the 1st team.

What does the fact that Pereira starts and Wilson not even in the squad tell us? Maybe LvG is not anti-youth after all but feels Wilson for whatever reason (he sees him training we don't) wasn't right for this one? Difficult to argue considering the result.
Its interesting that most of the top clubs played a relatively strong team rather than the traditional 'chuck all the youngsters in' approach. Not sure what to make of it, maybe the top teams have realised that the Ecl will be a struggle so the LC might be a good chance for silverware?

Personally I thinkit was more important to rooney scoring martial continuing to score I guess that's what the manager was hoping for. So I'd say that's pretty good man management. If Wilson continues to do well in21s and in training he will get his chance but at this time time lvg did exactly the right thing imo. Our 1st choice front 4 now have 14 goals between them but they need as much game time as possible in order gel.
Wilson will get opportunities when the time is right.
AP played well tonight he liked lively and he makes positive runs and plays with his head up all the time. Also a very versatile player so I think he has put himself very much in the managers mind as one of six or seven players fighting for one of those front 4 positions and he has leapfrogged Wilson in that queue.
