Media linking us very stongly to Joao Felix and Bruno.
Hopefully we can beat the ompetition and close the deal.
More than the footballing ability, I am impressed with the hunger of these portugese duo.

Agree1 Disagree0

Not trying to be obtuse but how have you managed to work out their level of hunger?

What about them in particular strikes you as singnalling they are hungry?

02 May 2019 11:33:49
The hunger to win the ball back after loosing it. I highlighted it because it is in stark contrast to the likes of Martial.
For rebuilding, We need to be targeting players who give everything on the pitch as Jose says "Mad Dogs".

02 May 2019 12:02:23
Thats a fair point, but that could be very much dependent on the system and style they are playing.

Plenty of the signings we have made have fitted the ‘mad dog’ profile but then they get the hunger neutered out of them.

02 May 2019 12:05:02
Have you seen the competition we have for their signatures?

PSG, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Man City, Barcelona, Real Madrid.

Ask yourself if you had no attachment to United would you seriously sign for Manchester United over any of these clubs especially when taking into account Manchester United's current state?

Unfortunately, especially without UCL football these are the kind of players we are a year or two away from being able to sign.

02 May 2019 12:26:04
It depends how we sell ourselves. Come to United for a genuine challenge or go and be bored in France, Italy or Germany in one horse leagues. Sit on a bench in Spain or start regularly here.

Probably won't work and if its Woodward giving the speech we'll end up paying them to go elsewhere.

02 May 2019 12:35:16
Manchester United is still a huge appeal to many top players.

Without UCL: We signed Ibrahimovic, Bailly, Matic, Mkhitariyan, Pogba.

02 May 2019 12:44:01
Well said Mort but it would be tough to sign them. It just depends on the individual, if they want to be a first team staeter here then United will be a club for them or if they want to win titles immediately then they will choose the clubs above but i think because they are young they might choose the project and the money.

02 May 2019 12:48:39
Matic signed the year after we won Europa, so had CL.

Zlatan - Mid 30s, got a massive wage.

Bailly - Hardly a top player when he signed.

Pogba - No other club could afford him, massive wages, has been trying to get a move to Spain since he arrived, couldn’t give a toss in 50% of games.

Mkhitariyan: Massive wages, was on the decline when he arrived, didn’t have many other options.

The fact of the matter is that the type of ‘top’ players who are willing to join a club like us that are miles of winning the biggest trophies, are generally in decline, looking for the biggest wage, or both. This approach to transfers is what has left us with the laziest squad in the league.

02 May 2019 12:55:18
By paying obscene wages. If we are serious these lads would play regularly where ever they go. They will be very well paid where ever they go. They will challenge for titles and cups at all those other clubs, and most of those places offer a nicer place to live, which is more suited to the "European" culture and way of life.

We can't offer them UCL football, we can't offer them a nicer place to live, we can't offer them a genuine chance of winning the league.

The only thing we could offer them is more money and potentially more minutes on the pitch.

When up against these sides when competing for players we will more often lose, unless the player is a mercenary and just in it for the cash.

02 May 2019 13:29:50
Even under LVG without UCL,
We signed Worldcup stars like Daley Blind, Rojo. Others like Herrera, Luke Shaw (Best emerging player at that time), Radamel Falcao, Di maria.

I still believe United are a huge pull for emerging as well as top players.

02 May 2019 14:14:54
A lot of talk that Bruno Fernandes is off to city.

02 May 2019 14:20:47
Blind has never been a world class player.

Rojo has a criminal record that put off many sides, also not world class.

Herrera good player, but was at Bilbao who are a nightmare to sign players from. We were the only ones willing to go through the buyout procedure.

Shaw is English. English players seldom move abroad. We beat Chelsea to his signature, but only after Chelsea pulled out of a deal because it was too expensive.

Di Maria was being forced out of Real Madrid, PSG couldn't afford him that summer due to FFP rules. So he went to the only side who would pay him the wages and match Real Madrid's asking price. He then forced a nice to PSG the following summer.

Falcao needed a change of scenery after overcoming a serious injury. He was on the decline and we were the only ones prepared to pay his wages.

See a pattern here. We sign players on contacts no one else would offer. Often for players who are either on the decline, recovering from serious injury or else at a club or in a situation that makes signing them difficult.

Since Sir Alex left there hasn't been one truly successful signing as of yet. Dalot and Lindelof could change that.

The thing with them is they were signed as future signings. Maybe that highlights that we shouldn't be going for the ready made players, but young hungry players.

02 May 2019 14:29:27
Blind - hardly top class. A decent player, but nothing more.

Rojo - average player.

Herrera - coming from a smaller club, higher wages, etc.

Shaw - Chelsea wouldn’t meet his wage demands, we did.

Falcao - returning from injury, well below full fitness, massive wages, Monaco were desperate to get him off their wage bill. Ed was happy to help.

Di Maria - priced out of a move to his preferred destination, came here, couldn’t care less about how he played, forced a move to his preferred destination a year later for a reduced price.

You’re just confirming the reasons why our transfer strategy has been a massive failure since Fergie retired.

02 May 2019 15:02:25
Kids these days would sign for any team for Money iMho. Everything is driven by agents and would sign for any team.

02 May 2019 15:32:12
becks you select your job without thinking about money?

02 May 2019 18:20:28
When becks was a lad, you took the job you were given, and were glad to have it.

But honestly, players have every right to seek the highest wage they can. Football is a massive industry now, with huge profits, and these profits are dependent on people coming to watch the players. Let’s face it, if players agreed to wage caps, it wouldn’t lead to any savings for the fans.

02 May 2019 19:05:15
With the money sloshing around in football, I've never had any issue with mostly working class lads making as much money as possible. Nobody gurns about the money film stars make.

02 May 2019 19:41:02
It seems like Lukaku might be going and with Ole preferring counter attacks, we could do worse than signing Vardy. If ever there was a striker that you could leave up on his own and have the ability to run defenders legs off, its him. Plus he has trouble standing up in and near the area so we'd get a few pens too.

02 May 2019 20:18:53
Vardy is 32, and relies almost entirely on pace. He would a stupid signing.

02 May 2019 20:30:31
We’ve lost our way in transfers. Fergie and team knew where to shop. Young English talent, Scandinavia and Holland in the main. Similar climates and countries, English speakers, easier to settle in.

Players from nicer tropical climates and cities, Iberian peninsular etc just don’t work in Manchester (Ronaldo as an exception) .

Let’s hope OGS and team remember this.

03 May 2019 08:27:44
This 'woe is me' attitude about our 'current state' is hilarious, players will sign for us, hopefully ones that will improve the team and fit the type Solskjaer is after.

03 May 2019 13:27:09
My point is, we can sign anyone. :P.

03 May 2019 21:50:01
Thanks GDS, I was reaching for the razor blades. People need to get a grip.

03 May 2019 23:53:37
Joao Felix is #1 on my wish list.

04 May 2019 10:56:27
GDS, ole is after nobody pal. He merely is just a face on the dugout.

04 May 2019 11:48:23
I agree with eric, blonde hair and blue eyes, that should be our recruitment policy.

{Ed001's Note - will Wayne Hennessey and the Valencia support be brought in to teach the players how to salute as well? =o/

04 May 2019 12:06:25
Wayne Hennessey would be club captain, much better than that tropical keeper we have at the moment.

{Ed001's Note - and he makes much better excuses for his mistakes too.}

04 May 2019 16:08:14
Wishful thinking maybe, but the current lack of quality of competition for their place in the squad, standard of the Europe league and growing with us to be good again, might be a selling point. Well, I can dream.

05 May 2019 22:14:19
What an absolute joke of a football club we have become . Not one player is interested in putting their body on the line for this club. Jones . Sanchez . Pogba . Smalling . Lukaku. martial. just contract whores in my eyes . And why oh why give ole the job before we know our end of season league position and champion league Hopes.
We won't win nothing for the next ten years . That's how shocking we have become. teams no longer fear us anymore . other teams pray they draw us in cup competitions. because they know they will get a result. we should be 6 points clear of spurs by now.
Tossers all of them. embarrassing tossers.
