Problem I see is most of our buys over past 10 years have been very poor and not even a upgrade on what we had or have
No one can even say the last one Varane as been that good so far, hopefully he gets better! But me not sure about that, he needs a Ramos beside him.
Sancho terrible buy that we did not need by any means

Please don’t go on, you’ve gone on quite enough already. Varane is proven at the highest level and Sancho is one of the most exciting prospects in Europe. Have the hit the heights yet? No. But they’ve been here 5 minutes in a chaotic environment. You need to chill mate.

Premier league first year for any player is definitely very hard to adapt to.
Especially when managers change, the club is in a mess, there's no captain or players to look upto.
Varane looks calm whenever he plays and is a class above all the CBs we have got. And he's got a left foot as well which none of other CBs have. Varane makes passes from his left foot which means we he has more angles to pass whereas Maguire can only pass from his right.
And with Sancho, he played RW i think a couple of times and he was starting to look good under Carrick and then he got shifted to LW and he's been bad. He's being played out of position. And he's one of our players who instead of being a selfish brat atleast tries to put in a cross or pass that finds the strikers. I don't think Sancho is a terrible buy at all, he came with an English premium but he's a very good little player when used correctly.

We’ve also no idea how long Sancho has had to deal with the family issues that have come to light. He was apparently very close with his auntie and he could have been dealing with that for a while. You never know what’s happening off the pitch.

Sancho has been here 5 minutes. Needs to be on the right and build a rapport with the right back until they know each others games - never mind integrate with the other team mates.

Trouble is the back four has been unsettled all season with injuries and out of form players. Once they start playing consistently together then the improvement will come.
I seem to remember when we got Evra and Vidic they were awful for the first six months and people were righting then off, sometimes patience wins through.

To be fair Varane has done ok, but not spectacular.
Maze will put his hand up and say expected a little more from Varane- purely based on reputation and the fan fare on here and elsewhere.
When you compare the impact with say Ben White for example, it has been a little disappointing. However early days and Maze will cut him some slack for now.

Maze, I think the difference between the impact Ben White has had and Varane probably isn't a fair comparison. Simply because the improvement in Arsenal's defence can't purely be put down to White, they also signed Tomiyasu and Ramsdale who have both massively improved Arsenal's back line. While an argument that Lokonga has helped shield the defence better could also be made.
At Arsenal 3 of the back 5 (keeper included) have changed, while Varane has still had to play with wildly out of form Maguire and AWB.
Imagine if we signed Rice and Trippier or any other CDM and RB that improved our side. Defensively we'd look much better.
Plus Varane has suffered a little with injuries playing in 14 of our 29 games so far and has had 4 different CB partners (Maguire, Lindelof, Bailly and Jones in those games, playing in both a back four or back three systems.
I don't think he has played 3 games in a row with the same players in defence and they same system.
Yet he has still looked by far our best defender.

I assumed the reference to Ben White was a joke. A centreback who can’t jump, who other sides were changing their tactics around. Well that transfer surprised me anyway.
At least we aren’t Watford. I think last night’s defensive display was the worst I’ve seen for a long time, talk about giving every goal away.

Van Dyke took 5 mins to settle in…. Maybe pace and physicality’s of prem is too much for Varane, he made some school child’s errors, not sure where anyone say outstanding, who was that against what level of team?
