Happy chap after the performance on Saturday. I believe that may be the best I have seen us play since the Spurs game last season. Everything worked out and I was impressed with Herrera, Martial and surprisingly Jones, who has received a lot of criticism over the past few months. He was much more comfortable, especially against an on form Lukaku.

However, one thing which is getting annoying is the amount of criticism Memphis is getting, I know he has not performed since the Brugge game but I cannot understand why so many expected great things from him early on. LVG said to not expect much from him early on in the season, he is a young lad who is still learning.

He needs our support and hopefully with the likes of Giggs advising him we should see an improvement over the course of the season. I've seen a few mention selling him already, which is mental. Give the lad time and let's see what he can offer us in return.

I think the issue with Memphis is that he's not putting the work in. It would one thing if he arrived at England, struggled with the tempo and physicality, and worked his backside off to adapt. But the rumblings is that he thinks he has made it and is spending his time partying and being a celebrity rather than knuckling down. LVG has already begun to draw comparisons between him and Di Maria, so that can't be a good sign. It's up to him to respond now and win his place back because he won't make it here unless he's willing to work bloody hard.

Danny

100% with you on that. I think people confuse a point of view that a player who is under performing should not be picked week in week out. I tend to believe people should be picked on merit of how they perform on the pitch and not by reputation. in his case it looks like its not only him playing poorly but also external stuff off the pitch.

There are many young players in the squad who are in that learning phase like Perreira, Janusaj, lingard, blackett, Mcnair and few from the U21 from what I read but they are not getting picked because they are deemed not ready yet.

I feel sorry for Memphis a little because I think he is caught in a situation of philosophy limbo. Like Di Maria and Januzaj etc he wants to play the way he knows how but must incorporate the 'philosophy' to get in the managers team. Under a bright manager who could use flair players to their absolute best he would do better in my view as would have Di Maria.

Having said that I agree with the above that the most irritating things about Depay at the moment is his lack of desire, hunger and work rate which is a receipe for failure at Old Trafford so he needs to sort this out asap.

{Ed002's Note - He is simply not quite ready - I spent the summer telling you that.}

Thank you ed002. Well thank god for some common sense, He is not ready and would not be starting many games at Chelsea, City or Arsenal either. Playing him selectively and letting him get there is better than playing him every game and getting a bad performance, which will destroy his self confidence.

The last bastion of his supporter in the fans will turn on him and the media will have a field day with him and run him out of town. He needs to clean up his act off the pitch and it has nothing to do with the philosophy.

Fergie did that with almost all the younger players.

I don't want to hammer the guy, but I will anyway as it's my b-day and I've had a few. What gets me most with Depay is when he gives the ball away and the camera jumps to his face, it's always like "so what, I've made it now". I thought it when he played for the Dutch during the world cup and I was underwhelmed by him then. When the price tag came out what we paid £30m (£10m here of there for the pedants so what) , it blew my mind. I just didn't see what he could bring to the table, was he really an upgrade on ADM? Januzaj could tear the Dutch league apart. Kezman and Alfonso did.

I understand about potential, but paying what we did you kind of want more than raw potential. Especially as he started every game until against Everton. We all assume he was dropped because of form, but Blind certainly wasn't and maybe it was just the Holland getting knocked out that led to him being omitted. I don't believe anything the club say so coming back with "LVG said XYZ" is irrelevant to me. Would LVG have dropped him had it not bee an intl break? Nobody knows.

As he signed I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but he has been abysmal. At least ADM stood out when he first signed for us.

What's probably the most annoying thing about the whole situation is our so called manager wanted him and must have known about his bad attitude. I can't help think that LVG has very little contact with any of his players. He preaches, looks for the obligatory nods then moves on. None of us are privy to what happens in the changing room, but I really think he just relays his message then relies on the likes of Rooney to translate that to the players - no wonder ADM, Depay, Falcao all struggled to understand what the F was going on.

Too many bad signings. Let PSG take him, we let Bayern take Vidal.

Beast I would tend to agree with all of that mate.

Ed002 do you think Memphis has hampered his career by moving too early?

{Ed002's Note - If he had stayed where he was he could have progressed for another year - perhaps moved on from his boneheadedness and perhaps appreciated the options available. LvG would have known that advice from someone wiser han him was to leave be for the time being.}

I think we intended to leave him at psv for another year but psg forced our hand.
