Eds I know its not the Chelsea page but they'd be a decent side with those additions. Unlike us lol. It will be incredibly embarrassing if we miss out on De Jong having been in talks for the past 10 weeks.

After a few weeks of optimism we look to be back to Amateur Hour again.
I can see adding Martinez, Ronaldo going and that's our lot.
Could we do a quick poll on how we'd all define mid-table respectability for next season please ;)
I still maintain that despite the above we HAVE made the best signing we could've got this summer in Ten Hag.
Wherever we finish next season we at least know we will have pressed the reset button playing wise and will have a defined and attacking style. If we can't fill the first team gaps we have it will bring on the youth players much more. With 5 subs next season and Europa League there will be plenty of opportunities for them to shine or otherwise.
Anyway it can't be all bad news today as at least Boris has walked!

Chasing FDJ was a mistake, still is.
We shouldve learned to stop chasing these expensive transfers as hardly any have worked for this club.
If we sign a good DM, I think our midfield is okay going into next season.
The lack of a striker if Ronaldo leaves will be immense since I don't trust either Martial or Rashford to get the goals.
In the striker department we will worse off than we ever were. Even before we had atleast 3 strikers to choose from.

Rohan, I agree it's a mistake to have been chasing FdJ this long if there was a chance we wouldn't get him. There are so many rumours floating about, I think only a very small number of people know the truth and they deem it worth pursuing. One day he's up for it, the next he isn't. One day he's available, the next he isn't. Still optimistic and I have no doubt if Eric feels he really doesn't want to be here we'll move onto the next target, whoever that is (genuinely no idea) .
But to suggest our midfield is okay going into the season is ridiculous. It's the worst Utd midfield in my lifetime (40 decades of following) . We haven't had even a good midfielder since Scholes, let alone a great one. We won't control or dominate games until we get one.

Despite what seems like a good relationship with EtH de Jong does not want to come to United. It may have been an unpleasant saga but it's one that's playing out in this manner not because of amateur hour but because we cannot offer ECL football. Same goes with Ronaldo. This window is a result of 10 years of amateur hour under Woodward.
So, it looks like we're going to have to switch our approach. Hopefully Ronaldo will go and we'll stump up for another couple of decent players who may not take us back to the ECL through the league but perhaps can get us there by the Europa League route.

Met Arthur Albiston and got his autograph as he watched us in the nets at Rishton. Was just a kid then, my uncle told me he lived round there but often stopped to see what was happening.
