The new season has not even began, yet the Rooney hate squad are out already with their pitchforks and hillbilly hats.

Yes our all time leading goalscorer is spending some of his holiday time with his family in the Balearic Islands but he does not look out of shape in the photos I have seen.

Yes he doesn't have a rock hard Ronaldo abbs but how anyone can take a look at those photos and say Rooney is well out of shape is beyond me. Some folk just love to hate. Shame on you.

Agree15 Disagree17

01 Jul 2017 07:59:46
MAZE are you even looking at the same pictures? He's well overweight for. Present day premier league footballer. He looks retired.

People say Shaw needs to lose a couple of stone, Rooney needs liposuction!

I'm not sure why him being top scorer has anything to do with it. The fact is he's a fatty and looks in worse shape than ever before. I can't see any takers knocking down doors to sign him especially while he looks like he's eaten another person.

01 Jul 2017 08:37:21
You can smell the hate maze , everyone in the squad is on there holidays .
Judging a player on a picture now?

01 Jul 2017 08:54:09
I just find it funny that rooneys friends in the press all ran stories about rooney coming back early to pre season to prove to jose that he's ready to compete for a place yet he's still on holiday.

Whereas ashley young has gotten himself in early to get ready for the new season. Model pro.

01 Jul 2017 09:09:02
DSG what is your pint? It is Rooneys choice if he wants to have an extended break.

Wazza are you being serious? I would say he looks a lean as he ever has. I wish I could post a photo on here for the guys who haven't seen it because you are talking hogwash.

Jred I don't know if you have seen the photos but he looks fine.

01 Jul 2017 09:20:44
Dsg
Don't forget Shaw on holiday with young in Dubai and back in training/ injury rehad with young at the moment .

01 Jul 2017 10:13:29
jred shaw does not have journalists paid by his agent to report fake news about him already returning to training.

01 Jul 2017 10:20:17
My point is i found it funny maze.

01 Jul 2017 10:22:11
Guaranga CSM are you losing the plot? "Journalists laid by his agent to spread fake news" are you conspiracy theorist or are you taking a course in Trumpism?

Maybe the journalists - who always talk bull - made up a story to see their paper?

01 Jul 2017 10:25:48
He looked overweight all last season so I'm not sure I can see any difference.

I don't see how he gets any game time this year, he struggled to get picked last year and we are going to strengthen further. I made a point last year which I stand by, I don't think his heart is in it. When you have been at the top for so long from such a young age then it must be difficult as your star begins to fade.

He has a couple of choices really.

1. He can knuckle down, get really fit, try and force his way into the team. I don't see this happening so he could end up sat on the bench or even just as a squad player (not on the bench) .

2. He can look for a new challenge which would entail a pay cut. He is under no obligation to do that but if he really wants to play why wouldn't he? He's a multi-millionaire and doesn't need the cash, he probably already has more money than he will ever spend.

As I said, I don't think his heart is in it any more, he seems like a settled family man, he has 3 young kids, he's been at the top level since he was 16 any his status is slipping.

He has important decisions to make.

01 Jul 2017 10:39:25
Jmb you can call me whatever you want to, but i find it suspicious that a clearly made up story is published and it some how only helps a certain individual, especially when no other player had such stories about them, we never hear pogba or ddg or any other utd player coming back early, even the young story was posted only after someone posted pictures of him at training not before.

01 Jul 2017 10:45:49
You'd think an athlete paid 300k a week could stay in shape a bit better, and I'm talking about his whole career. I don't hate Rooney, but he hardly helps himself and when you consider he is YOUNGER than Ronaldo, it's a bit of a piss take.

01 Jul 2017 10:52:01
Csm
So the papers don't just put story's in the paper to sell papers?
It all that dastardly Rooney who by the way is quite publicly on holiday not pretending to be in training .

This is a great example of the mind set against Rooney.

Ajh.
He has 16 years in the top flight and has won and done everything he is going to .
Year left on his contract settled with his family why not see it out .

Still don't know why so many fans have it in for a player that has been at the club for 13 year scored the goals he has and won the titles he has .

01 Jul 2017 10:59:47
Elvis
You could say that about 99 % of the players when compared to Rooney.

Strange that fans seem to forget what he has done and want to talk about he never .
Why is that .
Which players in the history of the game have scored more goals for united?
How many players have played more games?
How many have spent more than 13 year at our club? (Not left for his dream club because he was treated like a slave ) .

Always find it strange how so many united fans are looking to but a player down.
I'm a big scholes fan but if you compare him to Ronaldo he comes a poor second.

01 Jul 2017 11:19:48
The facts .
Rooney has so far played first class football for 15 year. More than most
Has made 559 appearances for united, only 4 people have played more .
Is England's most capped outfield player .

People's opinion from there arm chair .
Rooney has never looked himself .

You you want to put Rooney down you would need to compare him to the likes of Ronaldo because he has won and achieved more than 99% of the rest .

01 Jul 2017 11:50:12
The fact Young is rehabbing an injury is why he's probably at carrington. Just get off the mans back, we will appreciate Rooney when he's gone.

01 Jul 2017 11:50:30
Of course he's perfectly entitled to see out his contract, and he's entitled to spend the summer boozing with Darron Gibson. But it would be a sad end to his career to see him happy to stay at a club that doesn't want or need him because he isn't willing to take a pay cut.

And it is completely laughable to see the back training early stories immediately contradicted by the holiday snaps.

01 Jul 2017 11:52:01
Rooney has been a legend for Man Utd. Moyes should never have given him that new contract. It's not his fault the club were stupid enough to do it. He's now stuck in limbo as no one will pay the wages for him to consider a move. It was plain for anyone with any knowledge of sports science of physiology that he wasn't looking after his diet etc properly but his talent masked it, he's declined fairly quickly because of it though which is why the CLUB should not of got itself in this situation. You can't blame the player in this situation it's a club issue.

01 Jul 2017 12:00:00
Jred, I guess that's my point, he has every right to see out his contract, I think he will sit tight, enjoy his family, play when asked, and possibly even retire the year after. If he carried on playing it will be a backward step so other than the MLS for a year, I can't see what he would do.

01 Jul 2017 12:17:14
Smells of a thread started to create a row to me.

01 Jul 2017 12:21:47
Don't forget that with Photoshop you can make anyone as fat or as thin as you want to fit your point.
Whatever next? A Picture of Rooney with a full head of hair to prove that he has been wasting his high wages on excessive implants or a wig? Time to grow up I think.

01 Jul 2017 12:23:10
jred you are right we are all armchair fans with no knowledge or standing in football to criticize rooney's fitness but what do you say about Sir Alex, he too criticized rooney for his fitness issues in his autobiography i suppose since he did not play for 15years at the highest level his opinion too should be disregarded.

01 Jul 2017 12:32:13
Ahh
Exactly pal and for a player who has served his time at the club I don't see why some have such an issue with it .

What's gets me is the mentality of some spoilt fans when it comes to our current players . Look at the abuse a player like fellaini gets on here when he gives a 100% every time he puts a shirt on .
The stick Giggs and evra got as they came towards the end of careers.
Yet the same people will kiss the bum of a player like matic because he is a new signing. And achieved nothing in a united shirt.

01 Jul 2017 12:43:09
Csm
It's a line in a book . Add context to it .
He said Rooney was one of them players that will always struggle with his fitness . Not a natural athlete. Yet look at the career he has had and the time in the game .
Going in to his 16th year a lot more than most .

For any player that has played the number of games for the club won what he has I can't get my head around the abuse he gets of fans like you .

All this because Rooney is on holiday With his family tut tut .

01 Jul 2017 12:51:20
Rooney is finished has been for 3 or 4 years . Couldn't care less what he does. He will be gone soon enough. The sooner the better. The king is dead long live the new king. If i never hear his name again see him in the papers it would be fine with me. He has served his purpose to me as a fan great record great player in his prime but now he is just another ex player / has been.

01 Jul 2017 12:58:21
I was under the impression Rooney's contract runs until the Summer of 2019.

01 Jul 2017 13:08:17
jred the talent he had should have made him a player equal to ronaldo not someone lot inferior to him, also it is not abuse if those are the facts, he is unfit, he does not take care of himself on holidays and this is a criticism levelled at him for most of his career and i am not criticising him for his holiday but for letting his agent spread BS to gain good press so don't moan about something that isn't happening.

01 Jul 2017 13:09:00
Ken
That's the difference in fans . I love the history of the club looking at the great players, best laws Cole Robson I could go on and and on .

Now it just seems to be about shinny new signings.

01 Jul 2017 13:20:18
You know what it is very naive of folk to constantly bash Wayne about his career. Don't let your own personal perceptions get in the way because you cannot compare him to Ronaldo or Messi as they are out of this world.

I don't know the numbers at hand but I would bet that overall in his career he has scored more than RVN, RVP, Henry and maybe even the likes of Totti, Del Piero etc. So does that mean that these listed players are poor in comparison to Wayne because he has scored more goals? Of course not they are all legends in their own right.

So chuck out the stupid comparisons to Ronaldo and Messi - Rooney is in that bracket below with the likes of the above mentioned superstars. He has had an unreal career that should be lauded and long my it continue for the lad.

01 Jul 2017 13:28:39
Csm
You have no idea where the story in the very unreliable press as come from . Speaks volumes .
Rooney was never as technical gifted as Ronaldo who may the greatest player there has ever been .

If it wasn't Rooney u would just be slagging some one else off.

01 Jul 2017 13:48:41
Jred. I have a different perspective. I enjoy looking back and enjoy and respect the history but all my focus is on moving forward and what we can win next and how best to do it.
but any player becomes irrelevent to me in the context of the current team if he is not making a big enough contribution.
I want to win competitions and have the best team in europe again and we won't do that tying up wages on players that can't compete now no matter what they have done in the last 16 years.
Ive said in rooneys case he has the right to choose to stay or go and must do what's right for him and his family the club gave him the contract so he is entiled to see it out. Personally i think he will get paid off and thst will allow him to take a huge paycut and play elsewhere if he wants to play.

01 Jul 2017 14:02:23
I really don't know how anyone could defend Rooney. what he's done for and at this club is fantastic and not many can match. He as we all are, is enitled to wind down and enjoy our earned holidays. But at the same time he's paid a lot of money to perform at his highest level for the club who employ him he simply cannot do that when he doesn't keep himself in the right shape.
I don't or never have hated Rooney but do not believe he has a future here now so i wish him well and thank him for helping with our successes.

01 Jul 2017 14:04:30
To explain my perspective. i'm not a huge fan of players as such i'm a fan of the club manchester united.
All the employees coaches staff players are all merely transient employees. They don't care about me personally nor do i them. While they are working for the club i support and i feel they are making a good contribution and being as good as they can be ill love many of them like a family member. Ill have my favourites and ill have the ones that annoy me just by getting out of bed. But once they are gone or they have serverd their purpose then that's it for me. I love looking back at the old teams old clips etc and the history and reliving the memories but then its back to looking at what the club can win next and who are the best employees to make that happen.
Ill follow certain players that have left the club for whatever resson and enjoy seeing them do well at other teams or in the media . But there are others that i really think i loved him when he was here and he has given me good memories but now he is just another ex footballer not a demi god not a life saver not a world changing character just an ex employee of the club i love.

01 Jul 2017 14:20:06
jred given stretford's history of pulling bs like this i would not put it past him. Ronaldo today is one of the greatest of all time but please show me one guy anywhere in media or elsewhere who said ronaldo would be better than rooney when we bought him, when we bought ronaldo everyone had high hopes from him but most expected rooney to be the sureshot breakthrough star out of the two not ronaldo.

01 Jul 2017 14:28:39
Ken
From start to finish for me .
That said they are just footballers just a job .
But I have been a united fan all my life not just the present.

01 Jul 2017 14:37:50
It strikes me the issue of wages and money people flip flop on there own arguments, if people suggest any new players are costing to much or wages to high they are met with fans shouldn't worry about money, the club know what there doing, they can afford it why worry, but then with Rooney he's not worth high wages and that money could be better used ect, which is it do we comment about fees or wages or not or only in certain cases.

01 Jul 2017 14:54:01
Can't Influence the players we buy as fans just support the team
Ken
I'm all for looking to the future but united have a great history .
We are built on that going all the way back so I don't get comments lik.

"If i never hear his name again see him in the papers it would be fine with me. He has served his purpose to me as a fan great record great player in his prime but now he is just another ex player / has been"

About any player really, any club is nothing with out what's gone before imo. I've more time for a player that has done something for the team than a new signing .

01 Jul 2017 14:58:45
The club do not know what they are doing. Or should I say the club have proven they do not know what they are doing in recent years:

1. Moyes
2. LVG
3. Schweinsteiger
4. Schneiderlin
5. Depay
6. Shaw
7. Total BS spoken non-stop until recently by Woody

Those are just the obvious ones, the most blatant is giving Rooney a 5 year contract when he was 5 years past his best. No doubt about it this was a terrible decision financially, hiring a manager in LVG that made a deteriorating Rooney the undroppable captain was another error that fed on the earlier one - DOUBLE ERROR.

They get some things right and they get some things wrong, just like most businesses/ people. However I'd argue that for an apparent world class business we get a hell of a lot wrong, which is proven by our massive decline in recent years. The results speak for themselves.

Rooney they got massively wrong, anyone saying otherwise is letting their emotions rule common sense. Moyes was desperate, the club was/ is desperate and as a result big mistakes were made. Rooney and his agent capitalised on this, fair play to him, but disappointing for a club that is trying to get back on the right track. Which bright talent won't get a squad number next season, which signing won't we make because X amount is eaten up in wage bills?

Those of you backing Rooney I understand, but he should have been given a golden parachute if that's the mindset. Not elite protection for a player long past his best.

01 Jul 2017 15:00:13
Slate
I though everyone wasn't bothered about what a player cost? Seems they do again

Csm
Read Wenger comments about Ronaldo the players who played against him .

Using media to rate a player? The English media about an English player at that .
Great player Rooney amazing at 16 but never the skill set of either Ronaldo, ronaldinho maradona.
But who cares? Just look what he has done.

01 Jul 2017 15:16:29
jred what he became everyone knows so to say he is GOAT now is easy in hindsight, but when he signed for us fans and pundits alike expected rooney to eclipse ronaldo.

01 Jul 2017 15:24:53
I don't because a player that has done something but can't do it anymore is useless to the team and club going forward.
Im not saying they way you feel is wrong but
Its not the way i look at it or feel. There are many of your comments i don't understand or comprehend either. Your line of thinking is alien to me and vice versa. Some players will be faviurites of some fans but not of others. I wouldn't croos the road to meet rooney or the queen of england but i would to meet beckham or prince Harry.
My affection for rooney died the day he stopped being of any use. Yes he gave me some great memories but he is not someone that i have any personal interest in any more. He is not a hero i don't know him he is not an inspiration to me in any way he is just a guy that used to play for my team.

01 Jul 2017 15:43:01
Have we not signed anyone for a few days? A Rooney debate just what we all needed!

Welsh, couldn't agree more, that's exactly why it was started and it worked it seems.

01 Jul 2017 15:49:52
I will add he playex a lot for the team and achieved a lot and holds very prestigious personal records and fair play to him for all of that.
Slate i don't care how much a player gets paid as long as he is making a significant contribution it only becomes a problem when the outlay is not matched by a reasonable return. The payroll budget is not infinite so players that tie up large parts of the budget need to contribute or the money should be spent elsewhere on someone can contribute more that's my point.

01 Jul 2017 16:24:23
Don't get me wrong ken, Rooney is now not worth his wages for what he can offer now and freeing up that money may result in being able to pay a quality addition big money to join . But this applies to all players the budget isn't infinite and when we overpay for anybody it effects what's left in the pot for other purchases . We shouldn't single Rooney out as maybe stopping a future transfer due to being paid to much but then pay way over the top for someone else . I think media bumps the actual fees reported up to what they realy are or atleast I hope so.

01 Jul 2017 17:49:43
Tbf I'm not even slating Rooney, or what he has done for the club, but he shouldn't be on such a decline at 31, compared to other players of his age, he looks shot, period. I was over the moon when we signed him and he has given us a lot back, good value for money, but he also has treated United badly imo, holding us to ransom over contracts and wanting out a few times. He would of been out the door after we last won the league, SAF had enough of him then and he should of been moved on a long time ago. I want him to go out with some dignity, but I feel that's passed and if a so called legend can divide the fanbase so much, I'm not really sure he is one to many of the fans. Don't get it with the likes of Cantona or Best etc, so I dunno, the Rooney debate will always be a controversial one and spark up these debates. We need to move forward and he's not part of that and hasn't been for a while, simple.

01 Jul 2017 20:28:02
AJH, I don't think anyone on here would say that Rooney should be in the first team currently but I think some people just beat him with a stick for zero reason. In terms of where he plays next season apparently United want a very sizeable fee for him so someone at the club must rate him as an asset to the team.

Not that I think it will happen but if Wayne came out all guns blazing, was unplayable and scored for fun folk would still say he should be dumped by the club. I think that is the sad scenario of the whole Rooney debate.

CSM so essentially you have conjured up a story about Rooney controlling the media in your head and are trying to pass it off as gospel? Wow.

For all you guys who haven't seen the "massively out of shape" Rooney on holiday have a look:

goo.gl/2Wze1

01 Jul 2017 22:01:05
Rooney should have left or been moved on 4 maybe 5 years ago. That way we would all remember the rooney that scared defences.

Instead, we remeber/ argue about the FAT AND OUT OF SHAPE rooney of today,

01 Jul 2017 22:24:17
Guys this is all a bit naive. Rooney was given a new contract as politically, Moyes could not be seen to lose him at a time when he couldn't sign a birthday card let alone a new player. Rooney has profited and I don't begrudge him that for one second as he has been awesome for our club. If he wants to play football, he will go where it suits him and his family. If not, he'll stay for another year and cash in.

Not Rooney's fault - just highlights what an utterly ridiculous decision it was to give Moyes the reigns.

02 Jul 2017 06:58:49
Cheers Maze - I hadn't seen the pics. Clearly he doesn't look too bad, I was expecting a lot worse - although I wouldn't look at picture and think "professional sportsman", more like "ex-sportsman allowed two hands in the cookie jar rather the previous one! "

But in saying that, it does look like the water is cold and we all know you breath in when stepping into really cold water (haha) .

02 Jul 2017 07:38:13
Are we still talking about rooney? Has he not been out of shape for the last 4 years, what's so big about it now? Zzzzzzzz.

02 Jul 2017 11:14:51
Spot on angel.

02 Jul 2017 11:47:02
Jmb, please show us where this news of utd wanting big money for rooney came from? Or are you conjuring bs now. Also just google rooney back for training and you will see how i conjured up newspaper sites to print conjured up stories, and the photos you posted don't really show us a fit rooney.

02 Jul 2017 18:57:47
Ken
Best Charlton law . It's what being a united fan is about, the history off your club is what being a football fan is about .
The rest is just fifa17.
As for heroes they are just people who play football I can never understand the hero worship or hate for a player u don't know.

02 Jul 2017 21:25:42
I can never understand the ass kissing jred.
