Just looking forward to the final. Who plays in goal? What if it goes to penalties which it could given our lack of goals. Why do I think Romero has a particularly good record on penalties or am I getting confused with someone else? I'm not saying either way apart from you should play your best players regardless of sentiment so De Gea but I wouldn't be surprised if Romero started.

I would put Romero to start. It's being professional and respectful. He started all the way and I am sure DDG will understand.
If Jose thinks DDG is a better penalty stopper then he can be subbed in the extra time although it would massively insult Romero.
That said I have confidence Jose will put out the right team. All the way Man Utd.

I think Romero will start and I'd say based on his performances he's done nothing wrong to drop him for. However, De Gea is the better keeper and if Jose is picking the best team he's 1st name on the team sheet.

We had a debate on this the other day Supasub. General consensus was you stick with Romero. I and a few others said you go for your best goalkeeper and ignore the "fweelings" of professionals, especially when it is arguably the most important game for 10 years.
Wouldn't be surprised if the comments regarding Romero today about him loving Manchester are to do with him wanting to play in the final and trying to get a bit of support for that case. Looks good on the CV and may add a few USP's to the agents pitch in the summer.
I think the penalty save is Tim Krul (lol) .

Romero has been fantastic in every Europa league game, he's the best back up goalkeeper in the league, it's a tough decision for Jose but whichever he goes with I'll be comfortable.
He has bigger worries elsewhere on the pitch now Bailly is out and Darmian is not a left back.

I hope the lack of professionalism doesn't come back to bite the manager. "Fairness" shouldn't feature in a game of this importance. He has given up any hope of Top 4 and supposedly put all his focus in the Europa League, yet wants to go into it with a 2nd rate goalkeeper rather than arguably the best in the world. Some stones on the man, hopefully they aren't in the head!
Romero hasn't done anything wrong, but not one person would pick Romero of DDG if their life depended on it. CL qualification is the footballing equivalent for us at the minute.

A professional is ruthless.
In a make or break winner takes all match, you give yourself the best possible chance to win with the tools at your disposal. The fact people are even deliberating the either/ or of this decision explains a lot about the tolerance for 2nd rate performances by some of our fans.
Jose needs all the help he can get at the minute, playing Romero over DDG tells me the manager is a flaker and has lost that winning mentality that got him to where he is. Explains a lot about our season.

U can throw a lot of things at mou but lack of a winning mentality is not one lol. This season he has benched a player many thought couldn't be benched. He has put pressure on players to up their games.
Beast u throw the "he put all his eggs in the el basket" well yeh he is ruthless enough to know hoping Liverpool drop enough points in 6-7 games to compensate our league games vs Chelsea, city, arsenal and spurs in that time is a bit far.
That's ruthless in my book. I'm sure u will soon it though.

Cup final, play your strongest team, no sentiment or fair play, play your strongest team for the best chance of winning the tournament, and that makes it a clear choice of who should play.

Stevie - Yeah I do, that Cup final replay was the turning point for a generation, hopefully this one will be again. Shame for Jim of course, but no players is bigger than the club, especially a 2nd string Argie that is probably off in the Summer anyway!
Personally I'd find it very easy to pick DDG over Romero. However that's irrelevant, the manager of Man Utd should not have any problem doing it.
Besides Romero is no Jim Leighton, just like Jose by making this decision proves he is no SAF.

Stevie - I thought it was a great point you made mate. It's quite funny how 25+ years on how we find ourselves in a similar position as a club. The result of this final could have lasting implications for many years, hopefully it heralds a new dawn.

Beast and others have a point. You have to play the best 11. And that means Dave the save plays! It is a shame, but sentiment should never come into it. We have to win! So you play to your strengths.
