Good afternoon ed002.
Reports yesterday that bailly and tuanzebe will join the list of players made available for transfer along with Awb Henderson and telles pereira and potentially Dalot.
Firstly do you know if these reports are accurate and secondly has their been any interest shown in any of those 6.
Mata matic pogba grant Jessie plus some or all of the above would be a huge amount of churn in one widow albeit very necessary imo.
Finally do you know is there any other players apart from the above that the club are willing to listen to offers for?
Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - The answers can be found by searching - I have answered all of these.}

It is a lot of players to leave in one window, and that is in addition to embedding EtH new system. I am prepared that we may struggle at first, I am not bothered by that if the club is doing what it needs to get back to challenging in the medium term.

As Ken says it's necessary, not one of those players I believe will be in a team that challenges again so even if we ended up a bit short for a window it's not a big issue for me when thinking long term.

Hope Rashford, Martial and Maguire also join the potential exit list. Probably one of AWB/ Dalot will be retained unless ETH brings a high quality RB and he found a good one in youth team as backup.

I think Radhford will be part of his plans and he’s already (perhaps worryingly) said he thinks Maguire is a very good player. Martial however… hopefully some club will be crazy enough to move for him although I don’t know why, he did nothing out on loan either.

We definitely need this sort of clear out within the squad, however, as has been said above, it is a lot of turnover in one summer. Not just the amount of players we're losing but the experience of those as well. Lingard, Matic, Mata, Pogba etc may not be everyone's favourites and some may be the players we want to leave but they have all played for a long time at the highest level and won a lot of trophies between them.

I think we would be wise to sign an older player or 2 who can come in a contribute for a couple of seasons in a similar way to how someone like Milner has for Liverpool or others have in the past for us.

04 Jun 2022 14:43:50
From what I've heard/ read Dalot is one that will be kept.

So we will have Grant, Pogba, Lingard, Cavani, Mata, Matic and Chong all leave on free transfers.

So that's 7 gone.

Henderson, AWB, Bailly, Jones, Telles, Tuanzebe, Andreas Pereira and Martial all potentially for the chop as well. Which is another 8.

Taking it to potentially 15 first team squad players leaving.

Rumours are that EtH wants a very streamlined squad next season. So he can be more hands on train his ideas intensly into the remaining squad.

I think for a few years we have actually had too bloated a squad, not saying of the quality required.

We also have a number of promising youngsters but when are they going to get a chance when you have so many players in the squad.

I would much rather see a Shoretire Iqbal, Garnacho, Fernandez, Hannibal get game time than the above mentioned as leaving, in cups, getting minutes as subs.

United fans will always get behind kiddies as the come through, i know perhaps they get stick on forums but at OT or at away grounds from travelling supporters United have never turned on our academy products and I don't think they ever will.

Without any signings that would leave a squad of:

DDG, Heaton, Bishop, Kovar

Dalot, Laird, Varane, Lindelof, Maguire, Mengi, Shaw, Williams, Fernandez

McTominay, Fred, Donny, Garner, Bruno, Hannibal

Ronaldo, Rashford, Sancho, Elanga, Amad, Pellistri, Garnacho, Shoretire.

Which still leaves 27 including 11 youngsters on the cusp of the first team squad (Kovar, Bishop, Laird, Mengi, Fernandez, Garner, Hannibal, Amad, Pellistri, Garnacho and Shoretire) .

With a core of 16 first team players with more than 10 appearances in the first team.

Personally I'd expect many of those youngsters to go out on loan. Bishop, Kovar, Laird, Amad, Pellistri and Shoretire for me definitely go out on loan. With Mengi, Williams, Fernandez and Garner possibly also heading out on loan. Garnacho and Hannibal are the only ones I definitely think will stay as part of the first team squad next season.

When you see that list of 15 first team players who could be gone it really highlights how terrible this squad is. Literally everyone of them are p. poor. Liverpool or city wouldn’t touch one.

04 Jun 2022 16:47:21
Come on let's not get carried away. We know 7 who will leave for sure. Then any of Hendo, Martial, Jones, Bailley. But 15? We need to put out a decent bench and have some level of player available to come on when we need a goal. It can't all be made up of kids. Can it?

04 Jun 2022 19:09:56
Spenno, after the 7 who are definitely leaving the other 8 are:

Henderson, AWB, Bailly, Jones, Telles, Tuanzebe, Andreas Pereira and Martial.

Which of those players should be on the bench to grab us a goal if we need it?

I'd rather give Garnacho, Elanga, Shoretire, Amad, Pellistri, McNeil etc a chance if we need a goal.

I expect they'll be more likely to find the net than AWB, Tuanzebe or Andreas Pereira.

04 Jun 2022 19:50:38
Shappy, Phil Jones in 'Inverted Mode' can grab us a goal when needed.

04 Jun 2022 19:56:47
Figure of speech really Shappy. Defend a lead, score a goal, replace a key player. I don’t think we should be depending on 17 year old kids across the board, especially most you mentioned.

04 Jun 2022 21:56:30
Spenno, it really doesn't matter what you or I think. Ultimately it will be down to EtH.

I suppose what is the difference between having to rely on a kid who might not be good enough (or might be, you never know until you give them the chance) and having to rely on a 100k a week player who has already proven themselves not good enough.

The other year when Chelsea had their transfer ban they had a load of kids step into the first team squad (James, Tomori, Mount, Abraham, Hudson-Odoi) . On the whole they did well, at least as well as any squad player Chelsea had signed.

Since then, two of them have cemented their place as first team regulars, while two others have been sold for good fees.

So you never know if or which youngsters might step up.

Personally I think Garnacho and Hannibal are most likely.

Garner has a decent chance as well. I'd have said Mengi also, but we seem pretty set on signing Timber who is a similar player (quick, mobile right footed CB who can play RB) but probably more talented.

Maybe Hannibal and Garnacho will go on to have similar success as James and Mount, maybe Garner and Mengi will go on to be sold for good fees.

Who knows.

What we do know is that the rumours are that EtH wants a much smaller, trimmed down squad.

Which makes sense as he tries to imbue his philosophy and tactics in the players. Much like in education the smaller the class size the better the children do.

By reducing the size of the squad he can really focus in and work with smaller groups and get his ideas across quicker and more accurately.

He supposedly wants a core group of 20 outfield players plus the keepers.

Currently on the books we have 31 players, meaning at least 11 would need to leave and that doesn't leave space for signings.

Again just rumours but supposedly EtH wants 3-4 key signings. A CB, CDM and a ST. With possibly a keeper if Henderson leaves or a full back.

However, back up keeper and full back are not the priority.

Timber, De Jong and Nunez are the primary targets.

04 Jun 2022 22:21:28
What’s the point of this place if every opinion is retorted to with ‘it’s up to EtH’? Of course it is, like absolutely everything else that people ask.

04 Jun 2022 22:36:04
Spenno, even without including the kids, that's still a fairly full squad with room for only a few signings.

Shows how bloated our squad has been.

05 Jun 2022 01:56:48
Spending: Even if 15 players leave it still leaves a squad of 27 even if there’s a few kids in there, I’d imagine there’d probs be 3-5 signings too. So it wouldn’t be a bench full of 17 y/ o.

05 Jun 2022 02:24:51
Did anyone else notice shoretire being noticeably taller and bigger in his last cameo compared to the one he has under ole. I'm guessing he grew a little.

07 Jun 2022 14:55:18
Reducing the sizeof the squad is a certainty
A lot of the players like Mata and Matic were too old anyway, others like Jesse and Pogba should have been sole earlier.

I take the point bout young players being inexperienced but if they won the FA youth cup then some of them will be incorporated into the United first team squad for the coming season.
I would keep one of Martial or Rashford but try and sell or loan the other out.
Elanga looked good last season so I think he will be developed further. I have not seen a lot of the other youngsters so I don't really know about them.
I would certainly try and get some players in with Premier League experience as this is important.
I would try and get a striker and a dfensive midfield player with international experience as this is what is most needed and where we are weakest.
