I saw the BBC poll earlier about who was better, Gerrard or Lampard? I voted Lampard (obviously) but it is a tough question from a neutral viewpoint.
Just interested to get your thoughts.

Agree1 Disagree1

I struggle with this one. Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard, the 3 best English midfielders of their generation. I would struggle to pick who was best as they all have incredible talent. Lampards goals record is incredible, Gerrard pretty much carried a team, and Scholes is, well Schones. That England Managers couldn't come up with a system to accommodate all 3 is tragic.

Gerrard far better for me. In a decent team he could have been a legend of the game, wasted talent. Lampard wasn't nearly as effective, but he had a rocket of a shot and played for a better team and was a solid pro.

Our team now is crying out for a Gerrard in his prime, no contest in my eyes out of the two who was best.

Given the fact that Darron Gibson, Like Chadwick, Ronnie Walwork and Jordi Cruyff all have more League winners medals than Gerrard, I would have to say Frank Lampard :)

Lol. Clearly Scholes is Scholes.

Lampard over Gerrard for me. And Scholes over both of them. Think Gerrards so highly rated because he was the only bit of passion liverpool had in there side, I think he was brilliant but only for them, I think he would have struggled elsewhere based on what I saw with England.
Lampard good at West Ham and great at Chelsea, insane goals record aswel.

Off topic regarding Scholes, he was just so unselfish and a true 1 club man, I don't even think he had a agent. Always put the team before himself maybe couldn't say that about the other 2.

Without saying Scholes was the best. But who gets second place? Keane obviously with Robson a very close third. Lol.

But if I must choose between Gerrard and Lampard for me Lampard edges it. Gerrard had more strings to his bow, but it always had to be about him. If there was a penalty in the 90th minute that would decide if his team won the league or not he would push to the front to take it regardless of whether or not he was the best penalty taker in the team (Hamman, Alonso), where as Lampard would give the ball to the best Penalty taker on the pitch because for him the team winning is more important than him being the one to win it.
For me that was what always held Gerrard back, if he could just learn to use his team mates rather than trying to carry a team on his back then maybe he would have retired with an EPL title medal or two.

I also think Lampard had the better football brain, he knew where to be and when, where as Gerrard charged around like a headless chicken more often than not.

Both great players though.

Scholes was technically the best English footballer of his generation and the best since gazza.
I would chose lampard over Gerrard. His goals from midfield were incredible.

{Ed025's Note - im sure liverpool fans would say gerrard and chelsea fans lampard ken, its a rose tinted thing mate.

I can't split them. However, Scholes has far more medals than the others 😁.

Gerrard for me, offered much more than Lampard did but both world class in there primes, As he's retired now I hope this is the last time I will ever mention Steven the Chelsea rent boy Gerrards name, hopefully his punditry appearances won't be too often either. Can't stick the man.

If Gerrard hadn't been a footballer I think he would have been stacking shelves.

If Gerrard hadn't been a footballer he'd be doing time. Just a nasty little thug. A more talented Barton. He suffered too much from Roy Race syndrome.
