Morning guys,
What do you make of reports that Januzaj and Pereira have been frozen out due to 'showboating' in the U21 games. For example, Pereira apparently tried to score straight from a corner.
These guys must be very frustrated when everyone is getting a chance but them. Pereira for me especially would offer much more than Lingard does but has never really got a kick in the first team, even after that beautiful free kick in the Cup.
I think it is two talents being badly wasted.

Totally agree about them especially Pereira good enough to play and star for Brazils Under 23s but not good enough for a very poor Utd team? He is a class act who needs the backing of a manager and an extended run in the team. The problem for LVG I guess is that he feels under such pressure to get us into the Champions League that he won't take a chance on midfield. Frankly I would rather bed in the likes of Pereira Adnan Mensah and Rashford and give them the game time they need to develop their careers and if it means missing out on the champions league for one season so be it.

I honestly do not know how Lingard starts every game ahead of Pereira.

Fresh pereira has scored a free kick against an inferior team. I do not see how this warrants a start over Lingard who although not brilliant has played well enough.
Whether Pereira is a better player or not doesn't really come into it.

Lingard has done well for us. But there is no doubt that a few of our young players are not getting a look because they don't conform to van Gaal's ideas of what a young player should do: i. e. do exactly what van Gaal says. It should be obvious by now that he won't have any flair players because they take too many risks with the posssheeesssihion.

If they have been acting the fool as per the report them they should not be allowed near the 1st team imo.
I've been calling for adnan to be sold for 18 months. He is simply not as good as he thinks he is. He is what I would describe as a 'fur coat no knickers'player. Meaning he looks good but when you look underneath the cover there is very little there and he is not what he seems.
Pereira I'm confused about. I think he has great potential. But we don't see what the coaching staff see all week every week. Perhaps his attitude is poor or his strength or fitness is not what it should be. I like the look of him.
It's not just lvg danny adnan was doing nothing at Dortmund either.

I'm not saying that any specific player should be played. However, there is a growing track record of LVG shunning flair players from the first team and starting 11 - Di Maria, Memphis, Januzaj, and now Pereira.
While the first three players did not or are not playing particularly well. We have to ask the question, why is LVG seemingly incapable of getting creative attacking players to perform?

Fresh my point is you cannot compare the two, one is playing the other isn't and I'm sure there's reason for that other than LVG being 'petty'. How can you say pereira is better when he isn't getting a game?

I think given LVGs hosiery of handing 14 youngsters starts this season, if either were good enough they'd be starting. Just look at Wilson. Hardly lighting up the world at Brighton is he.

I have no idea if the young players are misbehaving or not its not great if they are but LVGs man management with flair players is obviously questionable to say the least as mentioned above and it must be incredibly frustrating to know you are better than eg Fellaini or Lingard but just won't be chosen for a decent run no matter how well you perform. What's the point of having an academy and youth teams if you don't promote players with obvious talent. Also there is a secondary issue of leadership by the senior pros. The likes of Robson Keane Scholes Neville Ferdinand and Schmeichel would have been looked up to by the youngsters. They would not have tolerated showboating. We don't have leaders like that in our team any more and it shows in our play. Like him or loathe him Mourinho knew the importance of having such leadership. Sir Alex certainly did. Wenger has failed to grasp the point and it's why his teams fail consistently.

No leaders in our squad apart from Bastian and Carrick ddg and blind by the looks of it, the rest appear to be self absorbing or self centred.

Which is why LVG should not be allowed a second more at the club than necessary, even in a non-managerial role.
His antiquated notions on players and tactics should not be allowed to permeate the club for another year, or, God forbid, longer.
Talk of him becoming a 'Director of Football' type, makes me shudder. It's bad enough his influence on the first team, but it cannot be allowed to seep down all the way through the age-groups.

Eric makes a valid point, the youngsters who have played have repaid the faith shown in them with good performances. Pereira has only shown glimpses, Januzajs attitude stinks an as Eric mentioned Wilson is hardly lighting up the championship.
Varela, CBJ, Mensah, Lingard and Rashford have all IMO deserved the gametime. I think Pereira will come good but I don't think like the above, he warrants game time at this level just yet.

Janusaj was a flop at Dortmund so don't get how people think he deserves to be getting starts and Lingard deserves his selection. Perreira is a decent player but not seen anything yet to be convinced he can push anyone out of the first 11.

How do we know what Pereira can do? He hasn't been given the chance, the one time he got a chance he scored. Who wants to play U21 football when less talented footballers like Lingard plays ahead of you despite you playing well in the U21s. I think it stinks. It's LVG selection again, avoid flair players at all costs because we might drop below 80% possession.

Fresh By the same logic how do we know he will not be as bad as januzaj or depay have been, last I checked herrera n mata count as flair players or are they not getting chances either. Lvg has given chances to so many youngsters if pereira isn't getting one that's because firstly we have 3-4 no 10s that is 1 position where we have at least 1 of them fit, most of the time more than 1, so it is difficult to give him many chances. Secondly lingards performed well when given chances or are u saying we should drop players who play well bcz we have supposedly more talented player in u21's, bcz by that logic we should be playing Wilson n not rashford, so what if rashford is playing well n scoring goals for utd n Wilson's been less than great for a championship side, he is supposedly more talented isn't he.

I've defended Adnan a lot but given the he talent he has he has not shown it for some time. It's sad that someone of his ability has drifted so badly.

I think Lingard has played well this season but there is no way he is good enough to be starting for a Man Utd side that has ambitions to win a league title. Title winning squads are made up of the odd player like him but he's just not good enough to start week in week out sadly. Pereira looks like he has it but as mentioned above, better attacking players have been shunned by lvg and Pereira is far down the pecking order when it comes to attacking wide men. The lad needs regular competitive football in the championship to iron out the creases. He won't have a future at our club with current regime in charge.

What's with the Lingard bashing? I think he's had a good sesson and certainly gives his all whenever selected. I'm guessing his attitude and work rate is far superior to Pereira and Janusaj, who let's face it played half a dozen decent games and now seems to think he's a superstar despite doing nothing for 2 years.

Just a thought in general about the step up from the reserves or under 21s to first team action. As said before it must be hard for LVG to balance giving young players game time when the pressure to get in the Champions league is so intense. I have watched Wilson for several years. To me he is a natural born goal scorer and I think he is not pulling up trees in a lower division because he is playing with guys of a lesser quality. Like I said about Pereira I think he needs a really good run of first team games to build confidence. It is not going to happen. It does make me wonder how many really talented youngsters not just at our club are jettisoned before getting a real crack of the whip. Now at Utd LVG does play Mata but Herrera is rarely started and so I think the truth is that LVG prefers to be cautious and play solid players which again exacerbates the problem we have in not being creative enough. Di Maria only this last week spoke about how he felt he wasn't given his head at Utd but is at PSG and consequently is enjoying his football and his end product reflects this. So if LVG won't trust a top top player like Di Maria how much less so will he the youngsters unless his hand is forced as it has been by injuries to the Senior squad. Reluctantly therefore I want a new manager who will give the kids a chance give them belief but also make sure we buy top top players and play them in their proper positions.
