Ed001, what do you think about United's midfield duo of fred and Andreas Pereira ?

Will any team succeed having these at as the focal point in midfield ?

{Ed001's Note - it is possible, they are a good combination of types. Fred provides the combative, mobile ball winner, Pereira the silky passing. On paper it should be workable. Both were highly rated before becoming regulars with United, so the question has to be were they overrated or just not being used correctly by United?}

For me Pereira's issue is he has played far too much in many different positions and hasn't been able to maximise his ability in any one position/ role. I think he works best as a destructive No.10, someone who can press and harass the opposition then play the killer pass when the ball is overturned. Unfortunately he tends to play with his head down when he gets the ball in the final third and looks to shoot when other players are in better positions.

Fred, could be a very good player if used correctly. But he isn't a holding midfielder either as a deeplying playmaker or as a destructive shield in front of the defence. He needs to play as a roaming ball winner, either as part of a double pivot with a holding midfielder or on the right of a three man midfield.

The issue isn't so much that they are bad players, but that they need the right players alongside them to get the best out of them.

If we had a proper holding midfielder, either as a playmaker or destructive shield then we would look more stable in midfield. We also lack that creative spark in the final third who can unlock a low block.

the simple fact is pereira is garbage.

fred has been better but he isn't the type of player to control games.

{Ed047's Note - I love shappy’s stories. 😍

we just need a new midfield.

shappy so pereira's biggest strength is his ability to play a killer pass but his weakness is his inability to want to pass, makes total sense.

Andreas I'm afraid simply does not have the quality, for me he reminds me of cleverly, his overhype and now similar toils, similar players also.
There is a player in Fred and he should stay and form part of our midfield but we need 2 serious additions for cm.

Perreira: see that defence? I could split it with a through ball.

Fred: do it!

Perreira: naw mate don’t want to. But I could.

Ole: wow, what a talent!

CSM, I thought what I wrote made sense. However, I am dyslexic so I appreciate I've probably not been as clear as I could have been.

The first sentence "I think he works best as a destructive No.10, someone who can press and harass the opposition then play the killer pass when the ball is overturned" is referring to they type of role he plays best in. It is the idealised view of what the role should be, not necessarily how he does perform.

The second sentence "Unfortunately he tends to play with his head down when he gets the ball in the final third and looks to shoot when other players are in better positions" is how he often does play.

So what I was saying was this is how he should play, but this is how he actually performs.

Hope that's a bit clearer.

But they are happy.

Shappy its not your writing i am wondering about but your thought process mate, i think danny put it perfectly.

How can he be best suited to role a where he needs to pass when watching him makes it clear he is a ball hog who refuses to pass. That's like assuming valencia would have been a great left winger when everyone can see he refuses to use his left foot.

Don't want to be rude or blunt here but i'm struggling to see how people think Pereira is anything other than simply not good enough.
He's had a run in the team in various positions, along with Fred and we are 10th. There has been one decent delivery on Sunday for the goal and apart from his hard work (should be a given) he's gives us nothing going forward.

It's really not that hard to see a talent and most people can see it straight away. Pereira is not even close to being good enough and at 24 it's embarrassing he is a regular in this team.

Gibson, Cleverley, Eagles, Greening, Bellion, Richardson, Mcheada, Obertan, Thornely, Clegg, Curtis, King, and now Pereira.
The list is endless and him and Bebe are top of it.
Love giving young players a chance but they need to be good enough.
