Just some food for thought, over the years I have had some discussion/ arguments with shappy over various things, one was Jose.
I wanted Jose at the club I though he was what we needed a big enough personality to manager a club like United. A serial winner .
Shappy never, he said the style of football would be poor, I argued he was over reacting it wouldn't be that bad .
He argued the young players would be hung out to dry, he said martial would be gone in 2 year? I was adamant the cream rises martial and rash would kick on under Jose.
In short he argued Jose wasn't the right fit and he might well be right .
2nd in the league is about par for the course imo with the squad wage bill and money spent .
The football has been a lot worse than I was expecting tho but on the whole we look like a Jose team doing what Jose team do .
It looks worse because pep and city are outstanding, there is far more to the improvement in city than he "bough some full backs ". that's a ridiculous view imo .
I like Jose, wanted him at the club he is a great manager but I'm not sure he is the right manager for man United.
He will and rightly so be here for another 12 month but I would be surprised if he is still at the club after that.

A lot to agree with there jred.
The cream is rising to the top jose doest suffer weak hearted and weak minded players. Shaw blind darmian fellaini hardly started a dozen league games between them.
Martial may or may not leave but the choice will be his. He may decide to stay and fight for his place or he may think I have no chance here because the manager doesn't fancy me and i don't believe in the manager. If leaving is his choice then all the club can do is maximise his value. So far we have paid Monaco €39.5m and he is close to triggering 2 further €10m payments for scoring 50 club goals (still a bit away even after 3 seasons) and if he is named in the top 50 in the balon dor list no sign of that yet but it could happen I suppose.
The football has been dull, imo much duller than anything a jose team has produced before. You know my opinion on that. Imo its mainly down to the players.
Lots of money has been spent no doubt about it. But yet we have a squad with no proper full backs to speak of. A glaring deficiency for a playmaker in midfield and no right sided player despite everyone having a go.
I think he will address those issues in the summer and if he does improve the quality of player and gets the right blend then the quality of the play will improve a lot.
For me the biggest mistake jose made this season was his team selection at home to Seville I was there that night and it was awful and cost us our place in the last 8.
Totally agree that city's improvement is not only down to the full backs, their keeper was great for the most part sane improved out of sight kdb also and sterling also. But they will miss silva more than many think next season and reappearing this season's feats will be near impossible. Pep has done a great job there over the 2 seasons. But he has been fully backed bought 17 players and had the backing to cull his squad as he saw fit. He got players in ever position that could all fit into his system. If he had players that couldn't play his system or fit his thought process he does what he did the season before. How much did walker have to do with sterling's improvement? A lot I think. Creates space all the time for sterling giving him more time and space to play and run into.
I know you don't think anything will change next season no matter who we buy I beg to differ. He has as you say rightly another 12 months to get his squad together I think he will buy better quality players in some positions and i believe that will lead to better quality football to watch.
A sustained title challenge is what we all want and a trophy. That's what I want every season.
City have set a new benchmark. I think we will rise to the challenge.

Jred, when you've been on the site as long as me and you have then it's inevitable that opinions are going to clash at times. What I like about this site is it rarely gets beyond heated debate. There is a respect, whether that is strictly from the posters or because the Ed's make it so doesn't really matter to me.
What's important to remember is we are all on the same side and we all want what is best for our club.
Not that I'm keeping score but that 197 times I was right and 7 times you were. Lol.
