Hi Ed's

Are MU still trying to recruit a director of football?

Many thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

Are you aware of how that search is going? I know we had an issue trying to get the guy who was first choice. Have any other options become available? Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Not well.}

Ed can you shed any light on who the possible candidates are and have we been in any sort of negotiations with any preferred target?

{Ed002's Note - It has not worked and the club need to rethink.}

Heard it was Berta from Atletico we went for, heard rumors of Monchi from Sevilla was highly regarded aswell

Really intrigued on if Mourinho would be interested having one at the club as Mourinho likes to be more hands on regarding the management of a club.

{Ed002's Note - No it was neither of those.}

Thanks for the information ed002

Something I wanna ask fellow fans, don't know your thoughts on us having one, I'm pretty wary of us ever having one as Mourinho is here, he likes to have control on all football aspects, he hasn't had good relations with the previous 2 clubs directors he had to work with Emenalo and Valdano

Just wondering Ed002 how is the restructing going regarding our scouting system, they overhauled it towards the end of 2016.

{Ed002's Note - There have been lots of changes to the scouting system at Manchester United and they will continue to change as they see fit - but for now it seems settled.}

Shane, I'm all for us having a sporting director. We didn't need one under Sir Alex but since then what has been the sporting vision for our club?

Ed Woodward is great at the commercial aspect of the club but we have had three managers in four years each very different with very different views on how football should be played. If we are to have a level of continuity we need a stable long term sporting vision for the club, that way we can shape the squad for the long term rather than having to completely change the playing staff every few years to suit the new manager.

Jose has already sold two players LvG paid 60m for. We can't keep doing that everytime we changed the manager.

Fair points Shappy

Very reasonable answer and from your explanation I could understand why we should have one

I just feel Mourinho likes to do the majority of what a Director of Football would do, maybe it something we could re-visit when Mourinho leaves in the future.

Shane, I think Mourinho will accept anything that makes his job easier. If having a man who can get the players in he wants when he wants is the outcome of having a DoF then he will happily accept I'm guessing.

Ed Woodward already does that lol

A Director of Football isn't just about buying and selling players, he usually the "go between" of the board of directors and the manager

Personally Mourinho likes to be the manager that controls all the aspect of the Football side of a club, that's why he has had issues with his last 2 clubs, definitely at Real Madrid. Everyone knows how political the club is ran where the manager might only have a say in buying players, the majority of the time he not the one buying the players, it's usually Perez calling the shots

If United can find a person who is willing to carry Mourinho instructions out and make life easier for him then it could work but that's not a job description for a Director of Football, he basically being Mourinho Personal Assistant.

Shane, name me a club Mourinho hasn't had a DoF at? As you say he has had issues with the guys at Chelsea and Real Madrid, but he also had to deal with a DoF at Porto and Inter.

United is the first and only club he has been at not to have one. I'm sure he'd adapt to what he has lived with for close to 15 years. Lol.

10 Mar 2017 22:33:12
He hasn't I don't think, I'm not sure but I think Luis Figo may of been the DOF at Inter at that time, I be brutally honest the Porto one no idea.

If it can work I be happy with it, I just think Mourinho likes to go his business his way.
