I wasn't convinced about Rooney in midfield but having watched him for England I think he could do very well there although he is not the finished article yet. He look hungrier and I wonder how restricted he was by LVG's brilliant tactics. If we get legs around him I think he has the class to influence games.

Good to see Rashford get on and ok relaxed, I think Kane may find it a struggle to get back in now, Sturridge and Vardy to start, Rashford as first sub. No really hoe he gets major game time next year.

Better England today than last day imo delighted for vardy. I thought apart from Hart sterling and Kane every other player out did there opposite no.
Rooney played well apart from set piece delivery but he looked hungry today with a point to prove.

The full backs were excellent, I've never like Walker but I thought he was tremendous. Ali was poor, as were Kane and particularly a sterling who was dreadful. DIer may be a good screen but his passing is pretty poor. Llalana was good, Rooney was excellent, Hart made a dreadful mistake but generally, post substitutions, the team looked great and up for it.

Sorry ken, must read your set piece point, I have been very critical of Rooney n the past but I give credit where it is due, I think you have become blinkered about Rooney and now see what you want to see. Sometimes he has liked like a overweight disinterested oaf, right now he looks hungry and focused and is impacting games, long may it continue.

I thought Wayne was a bit off the pace today, caught on the ball a few times, he certainly wasn't as good as he was in the Russia game. Still think he could play for us in midfield, but he seems to be getting to the point now where we'd have to carefully manage the amount of minutes he plays.

I am not from England so it doesn't bother to me much, but
one thing I absolutely loved was Gary Neville jumping to the group hug after sturridge's winner.
I'd really love Gary to be number 2.
It's true he failed at valencia but premier keague is different.
Imagine if in the games we had under LVG, at half time, we gave so much freedom and attacked like this.

Tony did I not say he played well? Looked hungry with a point to prove? His set piece delivery was not great I don't like him on set pieces his record on free kicks is not great and I may be old school but I think goal scorers should be in the box for corners. I said same about Kane. How many of his set piece deliveries end up as goals for club or country? And in the flip side how often during his career has he pounced on a loose ball in the box i would suggest a lot more often than his deliveries have led to a goal. So he is more useful in the box on that basis alone do you not agree?

I notice Rooney got MOTM with the BBC, hmmm!

16 Jun 2016 18:57:04
Ken - He used to be able to pounce in the box, just doesn't have that yard now. In fact aside from occassionally hitting a nice ball out wife I'm not too sure what he brings to the table, pretty average or poor at everything now his pace has gone.

I think he will be a liability and will hold us back in midfield. We want to be winning things, forget his name is Rooney for a second and I think the vast majority of people would pick alternatives for club and country and that's without making any signings.

He has played in midfield a lot over the past 2 years, if he hasn't grasped it now in the very twilight of his careers I'm not too sure what we are expecting from him. What's the up side of playing him in midfield?

16 Jun 2016 18:58:25
Ken, chill out mate, just saying I thought he played well.

16 Jun 2016 19:18:20
Totally chilled T. 😁
I totally agree beast.

I generally have Rooney tinted specs on so it will come as no surprise I thought he was excellent today his vision, passing and hunger were superb imo I also thought lallana (a player I cannot stand) was terrific and kyle Walker! Wow .

It's a lovely feeling actually realising we have some real talent in our squad that if used correctly could do great things and fair play to woy too good subs you wise old owl 😃.

16 Jun 2016 20:37:36
Rooney excellent again today, will no more when he plays one of the top nations.

16 Jun 2016 20:42:32
We have to be careful not to compare Rooney to the gash he was upfront this season and compare him to other midfielders on 300k a week. Like to or not that's where he is positioned. I think there's quite a bit better out there. He's old United for me. Sweiny is a miles better midfielder still and although slightly slower we have no time for him.

16 Jun 2016 20:51:11
Rooney was very good and has composure on the ball. aali, kane, sterling were piss poor and gave the ball away so many times and hence why england looked disjointed for a while. When thins don't go according to plan it seems like rooney is always the fall guy and when they go well, its kane or vary or etc etc who were great.

No one mentioned smalling and Cahill and the back 4, the welsh got nothing offensively all game, that with both full back playing quite high up the pitch. Bale for being a worldly did nothing all day and they had him in their pocket.

16 Jun 2016 21:25:28
Was saying at ht Lallana was our best player and I far one can't stand him. Rooney has looked OK against average opposition, if we play a top 5 side, Spain's and Germanys then he will be shown up. He gave away a needless freekick for the Bale goal and was clumsy with quite a few simple passes. He brings no more to the midfield as Barkley would imo .

Sterling is a headless chicken.
Glad city splashed the cash.
