Afternoon guys,

Will try to start a bit of a debate.

I think most of us are pretty set on Hummels as the centre back we need, Clyne is a good option for right back. Most of us want Depay also.

But the two positions that are left that we could talk for days about are the central midfield role and the striker.

Who would you guys like to see come in to fill those positions (apart from Pogba who we have been told time and time again won't be joining). I think Gundogan may be a good move if he is fit and also Jackson Martinez as he is excellent value. Wouldn't say no to Vidal or Cavani either.

Agree2 Disagree0

Cavani and Martinez are no midfielders . Gundogan is past his best and if Vidal comes he will challenge with Fellaini and Herrera for two spots .
People always shout about midfielders we need but should know that we are in need of deep lying midfielders . Not attacking midfielders . I don't really think there are any top class deep midfielders available in the market but I would love to have Kroos (can't happen though ) or verratti (same ) or Schneiderlin(very possible ) . Gabi from Athletico also is a good shout .Just need some top player to fill in Carrick boots

22 Apr 2015 15:13:08
I suppose Pogba would be the best candidate for the position, but I can't see that one happening.

22 Apr 2015 15:13:48
I'd go with Carvalho and Muller plus Ings on a compensation package.

22 Apr 2015 15:19:57
Think Vidal could be a good option, he could play in Fellaini or Herrera's place depending on roation, injuries etc. Carrick and Blind to cover the holding midfield spot until next summer when we replace Carrick.

Up front, don't think we need much if we get Depay. I would either keep RvP as backup along with Wilson. If RvP goes I'd go for Ings.

22 Apr 2015 15:25:13
Vidal/Gundogan and Ings.

I don't rate Cavani or Martinez, especially at the price and wages they would cost. In Ings we get a good young backup striker (which is what we need considering we play with just one striker), already settled in the EPL and he won't cost much.

Gundogan could be a really shrewd signing actually considering his contract situation he would cost very less, but I would rather prioritize Vidal since he is exactly the kind of box to box player we need.

An outside shout for Naingolan.

schneiderlin is probably the best cm in the EPl and would be a realistic buy imo.
dont think we need a big name striker to be honest
and also what has valencia done wrong at rb for the last couple of month

22 Apr 2015 15:48:53
We already have 4 midfielders in our squad.
Herrera is the kind of hard-working box to box player.
Fellaini is the hard working tall midfielder who could mark big players out.
Blind and Carrick are extremely similar and rarely go running into the box for scoring goals. They sit deep and dictate play.

De Jong is player I would love us to sign. Free, experienced in PL, dutch, is a good passer of the ball, and a very solid defensive midfielder. We would genuinely need someone like him in the european games and the big PL games. Would add a lot of bite to the midfield. Also would not hinder the development of players like Ben Pearson who if he plays this way is not far away from our team.

I'm torn between the choice of Gundogan and Vidal. Both would be excellent additions to the squad, and both would perform very different roles. The player we sign would depend on which type of game we want to play. Vidal is more of a runner, and Gundogan a passer.

Valencia can't cross and you want a right back that can put in a decent cross.

Fresh

Pogba is not holding midfielder and if we are looking for someone along those lines, Verrati is the best that is out there.

22 Apr 2015 16:44:47
I think we need a good all round midfielder who can cover several roles within the team. Schneiderlin Vidal or Xhaka would be my choices for midfield.

As for the striker role I think we need a good solid back up striker rather than a first choice big name striker such as Cavani or Lewandowski although if we were to sign a big name top striker I wouldn't complain. lol.

The options I would look at are Mario Mandzukic, Danny Ings or Enner Valencia is a name I've not seen mentioned who I think could do an excellent job.

Schnedeirlin good shout, strange we have not been linked to him

Valencia, is his final ball as good as we should be aiming for? I don't think so although his overall game has improved lately and he has become a more than useful member of the squad. Would like a younger, more natural RB

22 Apr 2015 16:50:45
I do hope we have the liberty of naming players that we might never get. For the deep lying midfielder's role, I would rather have Oliver Torres. I also think Marek Hamsik is one of the best box to box midfielders in the planet. We don't need any strikers - Rooney, Persie and Wilson would do.

Deeps.

22 Apr 2015 17:00:57
In midfield obviously everyone would love Pogba and I still have hopes that we will sign him. There are only a few options that we would actually benefit from signing. Those players would be Vidal, pjanic, koke, schneiderlin, matuidi and wijnaldum. Yes they are all different types of player but we don't necessarily need to sign an exact swap to replace carrick in midfield. Just a great player.
The striker I would go for would be Dybala, icardi or Ings. Not a first team striker straight away because I hope we play with 433 still

22 Apr 2015 17:05:38
Martinez is good but he's hardly good value when you take into account the amount Porto are asking (36-40m euros i think).

Striker wise I don't want Cavani, I'd rather have Rooney and Wilson being given more game time with RvP as back up. Midfielder I'd agree with others and think we could get lucky with Vidal and Gundogan as they could be less expensive than previously stated due to injuries etc. I reckon they could both return back to a level that would greatly improve our team. Verratti would be my ideal choice for a deep lying midfielder to replace Carrick. But as that seems very unlikely Schneiderlin would be more realistic.

22 Apr 2015 17:25:59
Don't see RVP as back up , he's not going to be happy and that's likely to lead to trouble in the camp

22 Apr 2015 17:51:58
Id be happy with koke vidal or pogba
martinez upfront or dybala

22 Apr 2015 18:18:49
Schneiderlin is an excellent shout for the holding midfield role. I must admit I hadn't really considered him. We are consistently linked with Gundogan and he is stalling on a contract still apparently. He and Hummels in a £50 million joint move wouldn't surprise me at all. If Rooney is to play as the main man then we should perhaps be looking at Benteke as a different sort of option.

22 Apr 2015 18:27:43
Veratti abs Depay for me

22 Apr 2015 19:00:45
deeps
hamsik would be a great signing , i'm a big fan

22 Apr 2015 19:07:24
I also like witzel and Nianggolan (spelling?). either would be baby eating, ball playing additions.

22 Apr 2015 20:33:20
Moutinho would also be a very good signing. Great distribution.

22 Apr 2015 20:38:40
We have Blind to cover Carrick for next year.for me we need a Vidal. He would be a great driving player for the team.
Realistically Ings work's for me. helps balance the books and could be great over the next few years.

How i see our transfer needs panning out are as follows:
GK - If De Gea stays then we don't need a thing. If he leaves maybe Begovic, Forster, or Navas.
RB - Clyne seems nailed on but Danillo from Porto seems a decent player.
CB - Hummels again seems nailed on but alternatives coulb be Kjaar, Marquinhos, Miranda, or Thiago Silva (I've heard a few odd rumours about his displeasure at psg).
CM- Personally I only see 4 midfielders in our squad who can play centrally in the 433 we have used lately. With those being Carrick, Blind, Fellaini, and Herrera.
Yes a more experienced and more technical player such as schneiderlin to cover carrick would be great but blind is a superb reserve and would start for most epl teams in that position.
Fellaini and Herrera have both been amazing for us over the last few months and would be very difficult to dislodge from our set up, however i would still try to purchase 2 of Gundongan, Vidal, Koke, Illaremendi, moutinho and Veratti. This would give us an amazing amount of depth and quality.
WM/WF - Depay looks nailed on but if De Gea leaves then as others have suggested Bale may be persuaded to be part of the deal.
ST- I see RVP leaving this summer and maybe falcao staying. i would add Ings and maybe Kane to the list of maybes coming in. I do see how both of those strikers are complete opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of cost but i feel they are the right age and quality we will be looking for in our back up striker.

biggest surprise for us this summer is that could Klopp be coming to us? who knows but silly season is almost upon us so anything could happen

22 Apr 2015 20:11:05
True Jred, I always wondered how clubs did not have any significant interest in him all this while. May well be that he is a one club boy. ed 002, i know this might not be the right place to ask, but I have never found a write up on any interest surrounding Hamsik. Sorry to bother you of course.

Deeps.

{Ed002's Note - If Hamsik were to move then the EPL might well be an option. But for now that does not look like the case particularly given his issues with Benitez are seemingly over and Benitez will be gone in a month or so.}

23 Apr 2015 14:39:06
Schneiderlin's a great shout but I would personally prefer his team mate Wanyama. If we were going for someone like Bale(long shot I know) then Khedira on a free is a good option.
Lewandowski would be great but where would that leave Rooney? Ings on a free also a good option.
Preference - Wanyama and Lewandowski.
Dependant on other signings Khedira/Ings.
