It's on, United will try to sign Bale this summer if RM can convince him to leave. For me it's a no brainer given the fact he's homegrown, versatile and EPL proven.

Yes there's negatives, but don't let cost be one of them. It isn't us paying for him and financially it makes better sense than Perisic. He'll boost shirt sales for our kit supplier.

And isn't he sponsored by Adidas too?

An attacking line of Bale, Lukaku, Mikhitaryan and Pogba is pretty exciting. With young guns Rashford, Martial and Lingard chipping in. Protected by Matic, Bailly and Lindelof. It's definitely a more competitive squad and first XI.

Some squad that pal.
Shame we never got bale when he left spurs.

07 Aug 2017 19:12:34
Bang on Syd.

It'd be fantastic to see us sign Bale, I said last week he is the best player we could realistically sign this summer. A player who in my opinion would be the best player in the league if he signed.

As you say Syd, adding him to the attacking players we have would give us an incredible forward line. Bale along with Rashford, Martial, Lukaku, Mkhitaryan etc is also probably the quickest group of attacking players we will have ever had.

Ken
What if bale gets injured tho?

{Ed004's Note - Surely we would have a big enough squad to cope?}

I think so pal, we have a fantastic squad at the moment.

{Ed004's Note - So do I. I think if we can keep Bale fit he is a game changer for us}

07 Aug 2017 19:50:45
Ken, I know it's tongue in cheek what you said haha, but I can answer if I may?

If Bale gets injured, then Martial or Rashford will cover.

Problem solved :)

Bale and fabhino would be a great close to the summer imo but that is wisful thinking. You could see 6 7 or even 8 jose signings starting weekly. He has bought very well since he joined the club. Recruitment is the life blood of any team and / or business and generally those that do it best are usually the most successful.

{Ed004's Note - Bale and Aurier would be better imo. Aurier would be cheaper too so would hopefully be money left for Bertrand or another lb. Although I think that may be too many signings for one window and enough players haven't left}

I've had my reservations about it but it's a different story if he's available. If we went for him when he didn't want to leave and Madrid didn't want to sell, we would gave been bent over by them. If Madrid want to him sell them there's negotiation in the price. Then there's the fact we can't afford another rival to get him. Greizmann was/ is my preferred option but hell if he wants to come to us, I won't complain. Definitely improves the squad. Go get him Eddie.

jred, I'm not convinced MU would have paid what was needed back then. But they will now I'm sure. I also think generally when RM want a player they get him. He also had an urge to go there too. So RM was always his destination.

I think he needs to realise RM hasn't been his best career move despite what he's won. He's not really hit his potential. He could save his career moving back to the EPL. Under Jose at Manchester United, it has to make him just a little excited. Close to his home too, not to mention RM not wanting him. Wouldn't be long until he's frozen out of games and crowd turn on him.

I don't know, just seems right. If his agent isn't telling him to seriously consider us, then he's not doing his job properly. This just feels right. Number 7 shirt up for grabs right?

{Ed004's Note - The team is set up perfectly for him to come in and be the main man here. We have been trying Mkhitaryan centrally all preseason but if Bale was to sign he would play there the majority of matches with Lukaku ahead of him, Mkhitaryan/Mata to the right and Martial/Rashford to the left side. At the very least we would have two 20+ goal scorers in the side and a few others who if they hit form could get double digits in goals}

Ed004

"If we can keep Bale fit he's a game changer for us"

That's confidence right there 😂.

{Ed004's Note - I think he is a risk worth taking now we can't go after Griezmann}

07 Aug 2017 20:13:11
Sorry, meant Jred, not Ken.

07 Aug 2017 20:16:55
I agree he's a player a level below messi and Ronaldo you can't pass up a chance if he's available. I'm also confident we will get him.

07 Aug 2017 20:22:12
Bang on again syd.

07 Aug 2017 20:27:44
004 - I wouldn't be surprised to see Pogba play behind Lukaku eventually. A Zidane roll. Eventually.

But how about this for now?

{Ed004's Note - I can't post formations on this page. Would discuss it in the formations page but that is the team I would go for against the top sides in the league however against smaller sides I'd play only 2 of Pogba, Herrera and Matic and play another attacker}

07 Aug 2017 20:27:58
Ed 004 echo do you see leaving. its hard to get rid of these fringe players when no top club wants them.
I mean who wants to leave united for stoke unless they are pushed?
No big clubs are in for anyone really except for darmian. Young and rojo are injured both were mentioned by ed002 as potential outs.
Smalling had links with west brom and ham i thunk.
Fellaini had a move agreed and jose stopped it.

{Ed004's Note - The issue is getting rid of the squad players. There would be interest in Darmian from Italy, Smalling and Jones would attract premiership interest I am sure, Blind hasn't been linked to anyone, Shaw + Rojo + Young are all out injured and it looks like we want to keep Fellaini because it would leave us short in midfield. We can't keep signing players if we can't move a few of the books.}

Syd
I rember at the time many on the site didn't rate him .
Most over rated player in the EPL
Will be finished at 30 when his pace has gone etc etc .

I think his last season at spurs was his best ever, been great at RM not sure he reached the heights of that season
Ken
WORSE squad in 22 year pal ;)

07 Aug 2017 21:18:53
Ed
I agree his best position is a free role of the striker .
Would love to see us get him but don't think it will happen .
Seems happy at Madrid and the player himself has said he would never play for united .

On a plus people have stopped going on and on about perisic.

07 Aug 2017 21:19:36
Jred, I was one of them. I thought he was an exceptional, even world class fullback or wingback. A very good winger, but in his last season at Spurs he developed very well in the CAM position. Wouldn't say he was a worldie in that position, but he was very good. I'd like to see him play wide. As for drastically declining at 30, well some say it's already began, but I am not so sure. Hopefully if we sign him we'll see 3-4 years left at his best.

He has become a monster now which I don't think as helped him. Perhaps come off the heavy weights and improve stamina. He may get his Spurs form back. One thing for sure is MU medical team will know what's best for his body and he is very professional so will do as they instruct I'm sure.

07 Aug 2017 21:22:39
Its not if but when he's injured. And why sign him to play central when we have players who can already play there and we need a genuine winger.

07 Aug 2017 21:23:42
If the club want shot they will move them on even if they have to pay them a bit .
Not many players will stay if there told you will sit in the stands all season .

07 Aug 2017 22:55:53
Sydney. Bale is an excellent player though he's injury prone. But my worry is exactly what you said in your initial post "if RM can convince him to leave". And that for me is one major problem. He doesn't want to leave as he thinks leaving is a step down. We don't want a player with that attitude. We had di maria and look what happened there.
For me, he'll be a disastrous signing.

08 Aug 2017 07:36:38
You guys are dreaming. I do not believe for one second he will be sold and neither club or the player wants to see that happen. When was the last time Madrid sold anyone noteworthy that was not on their last legs. Morata does not count as he has never been a major player for them.

08 Aug 2017 15:22:45
Agreed X. As Fergie said I wouldn't sell them a virus. And I wouldn't deal with Madrid as it always ends in tears.
