From Rio and Vidic to Jones and Smalling. I wonder if there is any huge downgrade than this in any club. Havent watch Lindelof . But as per ed, if lindelof, Keane and Van dijk are among our targets then i would absolutely prefer Van Dijk to partner Bailly. It has been a long time since we had two top defenders.
{Ed004's Note - Jose has scouted Lindelof all season and it was surprising that we didn't sign him in January. I'm sure he knows every minute detail about his game and how he can be improved upon. I think Van Dijk is a good defender but he is vastly over priced at 60 million. We could get both Lindelof and Keane for that and I'm not even sure he is better than both of them. Either way it's a primary concern this summer. Just by signing a cb, lb and cdm we would see a huge improvement}

Thanks for quick reply ed. As i haven't watched lindelof, i can't say anything about him but for keane, I don't think he is better than what we already have.
Agree that Van dijk is vastly overpriced, otherwise he would have been perfect.
How much do u think Lindelof and Keane would cost individually ed.
{Ed004's Note - This is purely speculation but Portuguese media seem to suggest Lindelof would cost around 30 million (euros) + 5/10 million in add ons while Keane would cost roughly 25 million but we get 25% of that so roughly around 18 million (pounds). Selling Jones and Smalling would go a long way to funding it as well}

Lindelof's price, if true then is very good ed specially considering how crazy the market is. Further, lower the price tag, lower would be the pressure on him .
I really think we have given enough time to Jones and Smalling. Should sell when they can fetch us some fees and mainly aren't on crutches.
Hope Lindelof is a really tough defender and we sign him.
{Ed004's Note - I like Smalling so if only one where to leave it would be Jones for me. But neither are dependable enough}

I get the whole paying over the odds thing, but now and again isn't it worth it? I would go 60 million for Vdijk, he is quality -I don't know about Lindelof - I Havent seen him, only what I've read here.
To be clear, I would be reluctant to pay that much for Vdijk but if he and Bailly can be the cornerstone for us for 6-7 seasons isn't it worth it?
I guess there is an argument for spending 95 million on them both if we got 25-30 ish for Rojo and Jones its a 65-70 mill net spend on 2 quality centre halfs . is that so bad?

If we sign Lindelof and keane as well then it would be good to sell them both. We will be able to recoup certain amount of their fee. A defense line of Shaw (on his best), Lindelof, Bailly and Valencia would be superb with Blind, Darmian, Keane, Rojo, Fosu Mensah and Tuanzebe on squad.

Keane is no better than what's here tho is he, let's be realistic. Since when have we been bothered in paying over the odds, we do it all the time. Van Dijk is twice the player Keane is, or will be for that matter.

got to agree with that Stand -united . Annoys me the way we over pay but in truth what will a decent PL CH cost in 18 months anyway? If they talk about Harry McGuire of Hull being 20 mill plus then the benchmark in 18 months will be 30-35 mill anyway -
V dijk isn't worth more than 40 -45 mill today , BUT if it takes 10 mill on top of that to get a CH partner for Bailly for the next 6-7 years to rival anything in the PL wheres the problem?
Lukaku 90 mill plus, Mbappe 110 mill plus, lunacy everywhere you look - half the story is let's get decent money for players we sell on.
