Today is a big big game, no doubt. But its only 3 points up for grabs people. Its not season defining!

A win would be great, and I think we will sneak it by the odd goal - but there are still 17 games left after today. that's another 51 points. Losing today would be disappointing, but a disaster? Catastrophe?

I've told you a million times before not to exeggerate :)

Losing today would be a disaster it is season defining for me, too many rivals ahead to catch up if we do, it's a massive 6 pointer. Being out of the title race before February would be horrible.

Unless you are going all 'Arsenal' on us and you see success as merely top 4 mate!

This is a massive 6 point game! Not the end of the world but its a big contribution to defining the remaining 17 games and cup ties to a degree.

And on a side note, a win if nothing else hinders Liverpools title challange and could spell the beginning of the end of their good run (in 2016).

Nervous is an understatement and i'm watching it sober for the first time in 35 yrs

Its a must win game for obvious reasons, we lose today then the hard work over the last 10 games was for nothing, we lose today we will be 2 wins off the top 4.

15 Jan 2017 11:37:33
I gave you both a massive THUMBS up for that, haha.

15 Jan 2017 12:04:28
For me it's season defining as it is a massive game. Not catastrophic but I believe a win will define the rest of the season for us.

Betty, oh but how positive has this site been, thee feeling of optimism that if we beat these today we are very much in the title race. 3 years of mediocrity and now this season.

15 Jan 2017 12:10:39
No excuses, were at home, playing our most bitter rivals. I would expect nothing other than destroying their belief, the players should have the same intent. COME ON LADS

Earthquakes and Tsunamis are disasters. Train crashes are catastrophes. Just saying a bit if perspective is in order, that's all.

Nothing is won or lost in January. And in all honesty, are we really going to win the league, even I we win today?

Considering what all the doom mongers were saying less than a month ago, we are not too badly off mow are we.

And Beast, no I am mot doing an Arsenal. Just being realistic. If you are saying you expect us to win this league, you are really just loading the ammunition for a massive whinge when we don't.

I expect us to be top. four. If we genuinely challenge for top spot them great. But that will be a huge bonus, not an expectation.

Next year will be different. Jose will have had three windows are time to stamp his mark on the team, and I feel we can genuinely expect a title challenge.

Just my opinion, of course.

15 Jan 2017 13:17:31
haha Betty, using that mentality what are we even doing talking about football? Of course it's relative, losing today is a relative disaster in terms of the ambitions we have this season (or should have) when it comes to football. My Mrs burning the dinner is a disaster when it comes to expecting my food at a certain time!

Realism is fine and I appreciate the task we have set ourselves means it is more likely that we will not win the league this season than win it. That doesn't mean my expectations adjust in accordance with our week-week performance levels.

A very poor start shouldn't be overlooked just because we have gone on a good run results wise (performances have looked very lethargic recently) . I hope we play with some urgency today and don't try and be cagey hoping to sneak a goal, take the game to them and they will fold. Not too many points to make up if we win, too many if we lose - so it's a huge game in my eyes.

15 Jan 2017 13:32:42
Agree wholeheartedly beast!

15 Jan 2017 13:41:01
It will be disasterous for our top 4 ambitions if we lose.
A loss will drain the confidence and fill Liverpool with confidence.
They have exceptional players but so do we. I don't think we'll match their tempo as statistically, they're the highest running team and we're the lowest. So we have to be patient and hope they run out of steam.
I'm not going to predict as it is too close to call. But I hope we can win though it's going to be extremely difficult. Unfortunately, the pressure will be on us as we can't afford to lose.

Beast please tell mrs beast that burning dinner should be frowned upon and should result in a bit less handbag and shoe money for a period of time but it's not a disaster😂😂

15 Jan 2017 14:04:58
When my Mrs burns the dinner its a blessing, I don't have to eat it then :)

We are a better team than Liverpool and currently in better form.
We should be going into this game without any fear and trepidation.
A win sets us up nicely.
As Jose said this week the margin for error within the top 8 is now minute.
The only time you can bank on a top 8 team losing points is when they play each other. Of course there will be unexpected slips playing the rest but they are becoming less often. Yesterday's fixtures looked tricky for spurs Chelsea and to a lesser extent arsenal but 2 4 nils and a 3 nil.
WE need to beat all those around us particularly the home fixtures in the 2nd half of the season and hope we have less unexpected slip ups against the rest than they do. Considering we play spurs and arsenal in our last 3 league games I feel we will need to be well ahead of Liverpool and city with 3 games to go. Those are the 2 that I predict will miss out on top 4. Winning this game is huge in terms of knocking the stuffing and confidence out of one of our closest rivals. Imo we are better and need to stamp out authority and say to the rest we are coming after you.
Spurs Chelsea arsenal laid down the challenge yesterday again we must respond with a win and say you got to keep winning because we will.

I agree with beasts post 100 percent.
