I am sometimes surprised by the lack of enthusiasm for United's English players by some posters on here. The only one everyone thinks should be in the starting 11 is Shaw. I'm not English so i couldn't care less but I don't understand why so many want the foreign player over the English in this united team.

Agree4 Disagree2

Simply because the players we want in are better, in our opinions obviously.

Not all fans think that way i'm made up For Jesse and Marcus they are plenty good enough and being local lads makes it all that more sweet i think we have a good core of english players i'm more than happy with Rooney and co there all united level be it first team or squad players.

Ultimately most people don't care where players come from any more so long as they play with passion and pride when wearing the shirt.

We had a Scottish manager for most of our lives, two of our best ever players played for Northern Ireland and Wales. We love a French man like he is our own flesh and blood (Eric not Pogba yet), a great Dane, our owners are American, etc, etc. The vast majority of our fans are not English, even the majority of our English fans are not from Manchester.

I think Rooney makes up for all the non-English love in over the years anyway. We have our national teams to get patriotic about, club football is nothing to do with birthplace etc (aside from the HG rules which do add a tiny bit of interest/ bias) they are an irrelevance to most.

Most of us judge the players on what they contribute, not where they are born, the country they represent, or how much they are talked about in the media etc. I imagine it's the same for most EU countries now because of the melting pot and mixing of nationalities. I'm by no means Mr. PC, but I just think that this is why most Utd fans don't show too much bias to English players over foreign ones.

Because the rest are dross and show a lack of passion
I hope to see good English players come through. But end of the day when it comes to Utd I don't care where they're from. All I want is to see them giving their all for the club.

I agree with that beast. If you play for united I'm not concerned about your passport. I'd say that's the first time I agreed with you by the way.

i think most people don't see as much of the players in spain etc and when they do its only the good bits.

also if a team is playing well the players look good .
kagawa looked great playing in a dortmund team playing great footy .

stones would look amazing at barce munich or madrid.

Thanks Garr - second part's unfortunate but life goes on!

How many Spanish players in Madrids first 11? II can only think of 1 maybe 2 don't hear them moaning.

It's part of the British psyche in my opinion. Whether it's the absurd hate leveled at Rooney, the lack of support they get at international tournaments or just the general British cynicism it's always been tough as an American who supports United and to whom england is my second team to grasp the mentality of both British fans and press. So often it seems they'd rather be overly critical and proven right than proven wrong with success. Again just my observation as a neutral outsider.

{Ed007's Note - Gobsmacked!}

Casillas, Carvahal, Ramos, and Morata are all players who hold or are pushing to gain a starting 11 slot at Madrid this year. Then there is the likes of Jesé who are providing numbers in the squad, for now. Madrid will never be the best example of 'local lads' making up numbers but they are better than some give credit.

09 Aug 2016 22:27:45
I'm sure you won't lose much sleep over it beast. 😀.

10 Aug 2016 06:17:13
United have always had a fair sprinkling of non-English players in the team, it's just that those non-English players were Scots, Irish or Welsh.

10 Aug 2016 07:45:49
el paso casillas was sold last season, jesse also has gone to psg, morata will be a bench warmer, only spanish players in madrid first 11 are ramos and carvajal.

{Ed001's Note - the Casilla that was in goal for them last night in the Super Cup? Someone should tell them he was sold and couldn't play then!}

10 Aug 2016 08:04:07
oh my bad, i thought he was talking about casillas, completely forgot about the other guy, but to be fair their first choice keeper is the south american guy whose name i can't recall.

{Ed001's Note - Keylor Navas.}

10 Aug 2016 08:17:06
Ed 1 he us not going to be a first 11 regular starter or wasn't last season which was my point. nor was Morata. I think Barcelona now only have 3 or 4 regular starters that are Spanish. Alba pique busquetts iniesta There was a time when they had 8 or 9 when you add villa xavi puyol and pedro.

{Ed001's Note - I am not arguing with you Ken, was just correcting csm's error mate.}

Missed Jesse moving but the rest are all in or knocking the door for the Madrid first team. In all honesty who knows how benzema will play this year after his treatment by the French fa, deserved or not. He is a bit too f a sulk and could open the door for Morata. I don't think so but he is still in and around the first team.

My point however was that at united the generally favoured first 11 contains 2/ 3 English men, the same could be said at Madrid this year so very unfair to continually single them out as poor at developing local lads. A better example would probably be arsenal over the past 10-15 years. This season I can't think of 1 English man in their best 11.

No worries mate. 😀 we don't argue too often considering😀😀.
