Hard to bench Rashford at present, so Rooney on the bench for me. Rashford and Martial on the wings, Meki in the 10 position and Zlatan up top, speed, creativity and big strong centre forward.
we can put any of three in the middle with, dare l say it PP.

I think Mata has done well enough in the pre-season to take the no.10 role for at least the charity shield and maybe Bournemouth. Martial on the bench with Rooney because the others look closer to match fitness, Rashford on the left Mikhtaryn on the right, Zlatan up front.
Just realised that we could have Rooney, Martial, Memphis and Lingard on the bench, we cannot fail but score lots of goals this year, can we?

Did Rooney score 2 goals yesterday or was that a dream I had? It's amazing nearly every post on here is calling to drop him and he's still the best 10 we have. Its his testimonial this week after years of great service, I'm sure he will be willing more than ever to perform for the club.

We played our best football when we had our most used players on the pitch. The last 20 mins was superb. The first 10 were good. The The min spell after half time we liked very good.

Ibra showed glimpses of magic
Mata and depay were great in last 20
Valencia was superb going forward and imo is a great pro
Rooney did well when he did what he was supposed to do he has said he got a rollicking at half time for operating too deep and not giving the striker support and that jose told him to push further forward.
Shaw looked solid
Morgan and Herrera stood off too much and Jose corrected that at half time according to fellaini who did well.
Miki was not as involved as in previous games I feel g e should play more central
Rashford was sensational
Blind steady
Baily was a little rash but improved as the game went on
So many good signs and so many positives. There is going to be force competition to Get a regular starting berth in the first 11 and that bodes well for the season ahead.

Ah come on Deano. He has had 3 years of leniency.
I'm all for giving him another chance in his preferred role I'm hoping he takes it. The jury is still out for me as to whether he can do that. But he is in last chance salon even he realises that I'm sure. Because he has been living in past glories for too long. Albeit in a poor team in a position he can't play so yes he is worth another chance but he has to perform to a very high level. you cannot say he has been afforded no 'leniency to date.

Rooneys Pass completion last night was about 5%. He was nothing short of dreadful! How can you say he scored 2 as defence. 1 was a penalty and aside from that we were playing a very poor Galatasaray side. Mata was far far far more effective in the 10 when he came on. I personally think Mkhitaryan should start off on the bench this season and slowly be introduced, he doesn't look sharp enough at present, plus Rashford fully deserves the start right now.

Did Rooney really say he got a rollicking at half time? I can't find that anywhere.
Would be interesting if true, was this a game Jose really wanted to win, is that why Jose made the changes .
We definitely looked far better in the second half .
If he was unhappy with roo where does it leave players like miki and martial given that rash and depay did well.
Not to mention Herrera and schinders who imo where the main issue in the first half.

Personally i think rooney should have been gotten rid of when saf all put him up for sale, but seriously people need to temper their rooney hate a bit, the man scored 2 goals . One was a decent finish and while the other was a penalty, it was his pass that led to rashford 1v1 against the defender. He has had many bad games, last one wasn't one.

Sorry ken but this 3 years you keep banging on about doesn't make sense to me imo over that 3 year period Rooney was still our most consistent performer (even though I have lost count of how many times he was played out of position "for the good of the team") .
I will agree that he is nowhere near the player he was 10 years ago but who is? I know I'm in much worse nick than I was a decade ago.
He is the scapegoat come rain or shine and tbh I think he deserves a bit more respect considering the service he has given.

Rooney scored 2 but we were playing a poor Galatassray side. But when Mata came on, he played perfectly and may be the opposition changed from Gala to Barcelona. Rooney just can't win against some people here.
