Well there has been a lot of excitement over the last couple of days and probably rightly so. After all we haven't had much tl get excited about over the last year or so.

There has been much talk about who Mourinho will bring in, and I understand that. He is well known for being a cheque book manager after all.

But I want to talk about some of our players who I think will benefit from our new manager.

First off, Darmian. The lad has had a tough first season, injuries and inconsistency have been an issue for him. Mourinho likes to have one full back who pushes on and one who stays back a bit more. He also likes to have at least one full back have have a bit of height/ presence to them. Think Ivanovic at Chelsea. I think Darmian could well be that player for Mourinho. He was schooled in defending at AC Milan and spent time as a CB, he's a clever defender and one who I think would thrive in a Mourinho team.

Schneiderlin is another player who screams Mourinho type midfielder. He can play as either a holding midfielder or as a box to box midfielder. I see Mourinho maybe playing him as a holding midfielder in most games, but as we have seen against lesser sides Mourinho isn't against his holding midfielder moving further forward as we have seen with Matic completing 2-3 dribbles a game on average for Mourinho.

Rooney is a player I see Mourinho having a good effect on. Wayne is stuck between two roles atm, he used to be a striker but has lost his explosiveness that made defenders fear him, yet he isn't refined enough to play in midfield. I think Mourinho will play him as his third midfielder as more of an attacking midfielder. Along with a holding midfielder and a creative box to box midfielder. I think he might get a swansong out of Rooney.

Who do you guys feel Mourinho will have the biggest impact on in our current squad and why?

Well first and foremost, I hope that the biggest effect he will have is on DDG. It would be a massive coup to convince him to stay. That is the most important person within the club at the moment. Keeping him could be pivotal.

I am in agrreance with regards to Darmian. Initially burst on to the scene rarely pooting a foot wrong. Seen as a shrewd piece of business by Man Utd. Injuries haven't been kind, he has struggled a bit with consistency but with Mourinho's track record I feel he will get the best from Darmian.

I have no idea what he is going to do with Rooney, it is clear he has lost the dynamism to play CF, plus we have two players in Martial and Rashford that are currently better in that role. Although he is a good passer of the ball, he is not quite clever enough to play the CM role. Buying a player of the calibre of Kroos would be my wish. Possibly, like what you said Shappy, Rooney will play further forward of a midfield 3 with license to roam but again nobody knows who Mourinho is targeting at the moment.

I am very interested to see how he will manage Depay. Before he came to UTD I watched him with great intent at both club and international level. There were many performance for both Holland and PSV where he looked like a world beater. A completely different player to the one we watched this season. To me it looked as if, everytime he had the ball he was afraid to really express himself, to do the things he is capable of. Almost like LVG was in the back of his head causing him to doubt himself. The boy is clearly a talent and I really hope Mourinho can boost his confidence and help him reach his potential.

Good question shappy
I agree in darmian
And Morgan
I think depay could well respond to jose and his good man management
Rooney as you well know I think should not be in the team add he is not a midfielder and not our best striker anymore for the reasons you have outlined above. However I have gone on record Here saying Jose might Gerry a last Harrah from Rooney if anyone can he can. But I would rather have Mata in the role you speak of.

Completely agree about schneiderlin, on the face of it he seems like an ideal mourinho midfielder.

I think herrera could also benefit from mourinhos appointment and turn into the creative box to box midfielder you mentioned.

A midfield 3 of schneiderlin, herrera and rooney with carrick, fosu-mensah and schweinsteiger as back ups could be enough for us in midfield and allow us to adress other more important areas in the team (cb and rw) .

Also as you mentioned height in the full back positions. Is anyone suprised that luke shaw is 6 foot, always seemed to look smaller to me lol.

Agree with your three.

I also think Memphis will benefit massively like Hazard did. Hopefully he will have some confidence instilled in him.

Memphis might get a double boost if Mourinho instills him with confidence and Shaw, who Mourinho seems to think highly of, comes back to his best.

I'm hoping Memphis has a season we all believe he is capable of but for me this has to come down to Memphis. People seem to forget it was LVG who gave Memphis his chance at the World Cup where he came 2nd to Pogba for the best young player of the tournament. It was also LVG who gave him the chance at United. For me, Depay went from being a big fish in a little pond to a little fish in a big pond and has struggled to adapt to life and the requirements and expectations of being at a club of the stature of United. I think a lot of players let LVG down and LVG gets a lot of unfair critiscm for players failing to perform. It's no coincidence that the players who excelled under LVG were Martial, Rashford, Lindgard and until his injury, Shaw. All players who are fast, direct and exciting, everything the fans want. There are of course occasions where LVG's tactics and decisions baffled me but players have to take some responsibility and Memphis is one and if he doesn't become a team player, I think Jose will ship him out in January.

To me its the sign of a good manager to make players better .

Schneiderlin, Januzaj, Memphis, darmian, Herrera . these players have all regressed, so were they not that good in the first place or was it LVG and tactics holding them back?

No names mentioned but assuming none have them have attitude problems and WANT to improve.

Keep DeGea and move Rooney on. They would be 2 huge deals to get us on the right track. Replace Rooney with someone who is younger and will continue to improve. Rooney is poor 90% of the time and continuing to decline.

{Ed025's Note - thats fine if you can replace him with some quality brendan, but you cant tell me he is worse than the likes of blind, herrera darmian and co (excluding carrick of course) playing in midfield, rooney is past his best i will give you that mate but still one of uniteds best players imo..

26 May 2016 13:26:15
Apart from the obvious name of Memphis
Martial I think will be classed as a world class striker next season.
The biggest improvement I think will be fosu. I see mourinho being a fan an using him as a cdm in a lot of games like zouma, who he manages effectively.

26 May 2016 13:33:44
We need to look forward ed, and Rooney is well on the decline. There are other players that probably need to be replaced at the same time, but Rooneys control, short passing and retention are shocking, and I would definitely rather Herrera in there for those reasons. Darmian is a RB, maybe that is Rooneys next position :-) when the square peg doesn't fit into any other round holes.

{Ed025's Note - maybe jose will get him firing again brendan?..

He comes in at a time when most of our squad are under-performing massively - so I expect to see improvements in near enough every player.

We know that players like Morgan and Ander have a lot more to offer than they've shown us under LVG and I expect that they will be the two biggest improvement assuming they stay at the club and new signings aren't brought in in the middle of the pitch.

26 May 2016 15:30:35
It could be the whole squad, after the message changes from win it and keep it to win it and go forward.
