Anyone would think we bottom of the league the way some of you lot pipe up about lvg!

Yes he has got some things wrong but he is also getting a lot right!

We needed someone to come in and clear the decks and get a brand of football in even if i don't particularly like it myself.

Thing about lvg's style of football is the next manager can come in and expand on this and be more relaxed about it as the foundations are already in place.

As for lvg i don't agree with all of his strict regime and how he handles some players but look at it this way a lot of players love him, a lot do not like him but everyone talks about him.

He does the job he takes attention of the players exceeding well which allows them less pressure now i don't agree with all his style and methods but the point is we are top of table and not playing to bad so he must be doing something right.

Im not his biggest fan but who else out there could of clear 20 players off the books and still kept most of squad happy and also he is playing youngsters which i'm all for.

All in all he is abit dated as a manager but i think giggs is helping him along and its working, i strive for us to be 1st come the end of season but i know 2nd or 3rd would be progress and a very good season.

Agree6 Disagree0

One line sums it all up for me there Big V. 20 players off the books, most of squad happy and bedding in the youngsters. Not many can do that.

Big V,

To be fair since Saturday there haven't been too many negative posters on here, not seen Jaime for example (wonder why) and Beast and JMB now seem to think we are destined to win the league so that when we don't LVG has failed. But at least there is some positivity amongst us.

I agree with all of the rest of what you say, LVG certainly has his faults, some of us can see past them and see the good job he is doing, others are determined to only see the faults and refuse to accept any of what he is doing is working.

Thanks for the positive comments, personally i think our future is very bright, We have a good core of players and we will only add 2 or 3 each summer now.

GDS2 - LVG has failed in my eyes irrespective when it comes to enjoying our games, (out of the 50+ he has managed I have enjoyed watching us about 5 of them and then it was one half in each), but most of you want trophies over substance so I am in the vast minority and if judging it on what the BOARD want (since when have we done that by the way, and who the hell is Ed Woodward to guide you on expectations?) then fair enough he has succeeded thus far.

If we don't win the league I won't change my tune, if we do win the league then it is hard to deny that LVG has done the job asked of him. I just don't like the product he is producing, it's pretty simple and has been my gripe all along - ever since game 3 or 4 of last season when it was clear he would restrict the attacking aspects of players games and have us playing so slow.

I'm pleased we are progressing, but LVG is benefiting from a lot of luck (opponents), a lot of money and a lot of patience. I can't help but think with many other managers in charge we would be having the results and the performances to match with all the tools at the managers disposal - but we have done that to death.

Beast,

I struggle to see what you want mate, you seem to want this amazing world class sexy football, the kind that Arsenal play with no success. We are scoring plenty of goals and hardly conceding any, we have the best goal difference in the league, like you just said, in your eyes LVG will fail whatever happens, which I imagine is why you are ignoring the fact the last few games have actually been a higher tempo higher up the pitch and much more enjoyable.

I wondered at what point you would tell us that LVG has just been 'lucky', I presume if we do win the league it will be because all the other teams were rubbish, it isn't a crime to admit you were wrong or change what you think based on what is really happening you know?

29 Sep 2015 11:35:02
Beast it is hard not to agree that we have lost a lot of the exciting play of old, but i think that happened after Ronaldo left tbh.

What i find interesting is that we are starting to score more goals now even with our possession game. Maybe LVG has found the balance he talks about so much. It has taken him long enough though.

We will know more by new years, but if we can continue to get multiple goals in every game playing possession football itd be hard to deny LVGs philosophy is working.

29 Sep 2015 12:17:03
If Arsenal had spent £300 million in the last 3 years I'd expect them to play sexy football and win things there the difference

29 Sep 2015 13:13:19
Oh here's Jaime.

Galway,

It did happen after Ronaldo left but it wasn't always as good as people think from watching highlights videos. Take the Treble winning season, that team was immense and played some great football, but God we were terrible at times, pretty sure we lost to Sheffield Wednesday that season and Fergie had to send Schmeichel away to sort his head out, it didn't mean they were a bad team, just every team has bad runs of form, it happens.

In my opinion the football now is the best we have played since Ronaldo left, or at least since the last CL final we played in, and we are getting results, so I don't really get what people want.

GDS2 - I don't expect world class sexy football week in week out, but I expect a lot better than what we are seeing. LVG is a manager that believes the team should be better than the sum of it's parts, which is something I agree with. Where we differ is that he will take away the special parts to ensure it fits the system, rather than adjusting it to integrate those special parts. Players are wasted in his system and I enjoy watching fluid attacking football, it is what most of us have gotten used to.

Galway - I agree completely, goals don't necessarily make the football better, it just means we are more clinical. It also helps having DDG in goal. Martial could have easily started as Depay has and we would be in a much different situation. I hope as the players get to know each other and LVG has more confidence in them we will start seeing more expansive and fluid football.

Jaimej - Sums it up perfectly.

29 Sep 2015 14:03:21
Which players are being wasted in this system then? Depay has started slowly but that was kind of to be expected, Ed002 told us we signed him a year early and he will take time, Rooney is playing his natural position but hasn't been massively up to scratch but seems to be improving. Who else hasn't been good or contributed, I can't think of anyone, the team is playing well and the individuals are too.

The other day you said Mata, Depay and Rooney are anonymous, and they scored our 3 goals on Saturday!

29 Sep 2015 14:06:10
Gds2 did you even read my post yesterday? It said nothing, not one little thing about the manager, so I have no idea what you are on about.

29 Sep 2015 15:23:08
GDS2 - The ball hit Rooney and went in, both Depay & Mata's were tap ins. If you base a performance on goals then it's plain wrong, its what they have been doing the other 89mins of a game that is the problem.

All I am saying is we have hardly seen the best of our creative players (last season or this season).

29 Sep 2015 16:08:40
I think you might need to look up the definition of anonymous?

29 Sep 2015 16:42:32
Beast,
We scored 3 goals mate. You are talking like all three goals were pure down to luck. Depay's goal came from a beautiful ball from blind to mata and then to depay who was at right place at right time.
Rooney scored from beautiful work from martial and mata's goal was clinical and it was a lot more than tap in.

Everyone of us wants pacy, exciting and attacking football but we can never deny that goals are the thing to be scored to win matches which are doing good.

29 Sep 2015 17:04:32
GDS2 - It's too far away from "pedant" and that is where I am looking at the moment. Do you really need me to caveat every comment with a Shappy style summation of what I mean exactly? (no offence Shaps).

It's obvious that Mata, Depay & Rooney have not featured significantly in the games we have played thus far. They may have had the odd moment, but they are not involved and doing the right things as much as we would like. I think you are arguing for arguments sake here, unless you are really happy with their contributions so far.

29 Sep 2015 17:21:47
I think Mata has been one of our best players over the last 5 games so yes I have been happy with his contribution.

29 Sep 2015 17:59:54
Hey Jaime if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.

If if if, No one knows what would happen. The fact is, we've cleared the decks, spent a lot of money to buy the correct players and we are sitting on top of the table for the first time since we last won it.
