As much as I like Ramos as a player and think he would bring a lot to the team I find some of the hypocritical posts on here amusing. When Wayne Rooney held United to 'ransom' over his contract demands and suggesting he may leave for a bumper new deal elsewhere he was torn apart by most fans, deemed the Villian of Stretford and hated on by everyone and their grandma's.

Now Sergio Ramos is doing the exact same to Real Madrid and 'if' (big massive 'if' at that) he signs for United it will be for an obscene amount of cash and he will become by far our highest paid player. So IF he leaves Madrid for United it will be for money (a massive amount that Madrid aren't even willing to pay so make of that what you will) who is the mugs in all of this?

One last point, Wayne Rooney got vile abuse for getting himself a bumper new deal and yet he has given us his full career and continues to do so and will eventually become our top goalscorer ever. Di Maria is paid a heap more (which of course he has merited right?) and Ramo's IF he signs will earn significantly more so. We live in funny old world full of fickleness, hypocrisy and a buring need of materialistic yearns for new well polished toys.

JMB

If it happens and I remain dubious, I think we should not underestimate the worth of prizing one of Real Madrid's key players, still in his prime out of their team. Psychologically it could be very interesting. Someone can correct me but I don't remember Madrid selling a player who they didn't want to, who forced his way out. If it happens then is it a turning point in the pre conceived notion, they have perpetuated, that the flow is only one way to Madrid which they have always maintained as the "end point" in players dreams. To end that could well be worth the fee.

Lastly Ramos is 29 so not too long term but perhaps be here long enough to see whether the two outstanding young centre back prospects we brought in the last 12 months can develop. That is what LVG will likely have in mind, giving them a role model and looking to the youth in 3 to 4 years.

Di Maria isn't paid more. Rooney is the highest earner at the club. But calling football fans out for being hypocrites is a waste of time. Its the badge of honor for fans everywhere.

30 Jun 2015 06:23:20
Time for your pills mate ;)
Anyways please not Rooney again. Please!

30 Jun 2015 06:24:41
You want top players in your squad, you got to pay top money. You are talking about UCL winners and world
Cup winners here. Are you kidding me? Good luck with that LFC mentality. Ain't going to get the club anywhere with that. Football is business. Players are professionals. Get a grip.

30 Jun 2015 07:07:35
Ramos would never end up being our highest paid player and is on 5.5 million euros a year mate after tax which works out to 4 million pounds if i am not mistaken.

We have RVP collecting 10 to 12 million pounds a year and spending most of his time on the physio table. I have no Idea what rooney is on but would assume even higher than that. Ramos will probably end up on something much higher than he is at madrid but not at these guys level.

Some of the fans need a head check here and make up their mind if they want world class players as wages always plays a big part to getting them and nothing wrong with anyone looking to increase their earnings.

30 Jun 2015 07:41:49
Ask the Eds who is the highest paid player at United Rosie. It is Di Maria. If Ramos's wage demands are being baulked at by Madrid then a bumper deal at United will be huge. Stop kidding yourselves he wants United, he wants money and lots of it.

JMB,

We need top players, this is one of the very best who wants to sign for us, do you think we can get the very best players for £20 a week and a packet of fags? No, we have to pay big.

You want the club to be back to where it was, you complained last year all season that we weren't good enough, and now we want to buy a top player you are complaining about that as well and looking for the negatives.

It can't just be that you want to find negatives in everything? I am just waiting for beast to reply saying 'I agree with JMB' now to complete the set.

30 Jun 2015 08:17:34
Can't please all the people all the time (or in jmbs case not at all or ever) if 1 player "deserves" top money it's Ramos he would b most clubs top earner?

30 Jun 2015 08:18:42
Can any Eds confirm what JMB is saying?

They all want money JMB, that's football.

{Ed001's Note - Di Maria is the highest paid player in English football history.}

30 Jun 2015 08:24:15
Axe sharp enough, jmb?

30 Jun 2015 09:53:30
Wow, sorry JMB I take it back I was mistaken.

30 Jun 2015 10:37:07
who really cares about how much he will earn or other players earn as long as they give there all?

if you could get more money in work wouldn't you try to get it? it doesn't matter how they get it i couldn't care less, if there going to make the team better, pay them what they want.

30 Jun 2015 10:39:28
ADM is THE financial muscle united flexed last summer. A route I hope we don't continue to go down. Having said that Ramos wouldn't earn anywhere near as much I wouldn't think and has a few top years left in him. Rooney has played at United all his career and roll be top scorer but 2 tantrums and mega rises helped him along the way ha.

30 Jun 2015 10:50:59
Ed001 if you are around mate or any of the Eds for that matter, do you think Ramos would want a salary in line with that of Di Maria's should he head to Old Trafford?

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - not that much, though he would want a big salary, I very much doubt he would ask that much. Though it might end up being a huge salary to clinch him with other clubs circling now and waiting to see if they can jump in and get him. This is one of those situations that can go either way, bridges are being covered in kerosene, but no one has quite set them on fire, so he could still stay. The longer it goes on though, the more likely it is he will go.}

30 Jun 2015 11:29:52
Thanks ed. Appreciated.

{Ed001's Note - the issue might be if Man City step in, which is looking increasingly likely.}

30 Jun 2015 11:53:41
That will be interesting Ed. Then we will see if Ramos's 'only wants United'. He will go wherever the cash is.

30 Jun 2015 12:03:24
No problem, as Ken says, with working class lads getting as much as they can as long as they act like professionals and give their all.

Look at what actors get per movie and no one begrudges it. It's the entertainment business after all.

The likes of the Daily Fail who are always moaning about it, are happy to lick the ar$es of the Royal Family who've done less to earn their money.

It's a British class thing.

30 Jun 2015 13:22:59
Ed001

City are already in Violation of FPP and will not be able to do the wages or the transfer mate. They are half our turnover and just 5% less in wages than us.

If he goes it is United mate. They are losing money every year and if I am not mistaken were fined but suspended or trying to pay a lesser fine to UEFA.

I think he is coming and will see this thing happen quite quickly, window open tomm right?

{Ed001's Note - for starters FFP rules are being relaxed. Secondly they are looking to offload a number of players to bring in some money. Thirdly they are looking to agree payment plans that get round some of the restrictions.}

30 Jun 2015 18:09:46
Ed001

I realise all those things but they would need to have a fire sale and take bath if they want to get involved in transfers like Ramos. The players they will try and offload are going to be long drawn out process and no guarantees.

They have more than a few like we do in RVP and Nani whose wages are a hindrance to anyone who might be interested no matter how cheap they might be in terms of a transfer.

If we go with the theory that all these players are in it for the money then most will not move and sit tight and collect their weekly wages as long as they have a contract.

I mean does any believe for a second a Turkish side can afford RVP's wages and even more silly does anyone believe he would be willing to move his family out there. Istanbul is a nice city for a few days to visit but not to live there LOL.

The families of these footballers starting from the wags are spoiled rotten and have a major say in where they go.

{Ed001's Note - you also have to remember that FFP is taken over 3 years, so they have 3 years before their spending this year hits. By then it might have been lifted altogether. Under normal circumstances I agree they wouldn't take the chance and will be careful, but when a big name player like Ramos, who would generate worldwide publicity, becomes available, they will take a risk if need be. Having said that, I really think it is a matter of Madrid or Man Utd for Ramos, but you never know these days. Principles go out the window for many when money is waved under their noses.}
