Jred in response to your post down the page about where should the club draw the line on transfer fees in negotiations.

Surely its to the point where the deal is not financially and logistically viable for the people conducting the negotiations.

Im sure ed woodward and his team know exactly how much we can afford and what our budget is related to morata in this instance.

If real madrid ask for an absurd amount like for example 200m or they want to use old trafford on saturdays then the club will walk away.

Peoples issue is with posters who wimsically band about figures based on their personal opinion of a player without knowing the intrinsic details involved in a deal of this sort and how it affects the clubs finances.

DSG I don't think anyone is saying that there wouldn't be a lot due diligence done on large financial transactions the club is involved in. From board level to the club advisers at PwC you would like to think there would be huge scrutiny around getting deals done.

The problem is that United have put a target on their back over the years for the amount of coin they are willingly to part with to get a deal over the line. These are deals where in my opinion a club like Arsenal for instance would have walked away from but United are foolish enough to prove they can get the deal over the line.

In the current climate with the exchange rate against the club and the impending effects of Brexit on the economy still largely unknown I honestly feel it rash and borderline absurd the club are willingly to throw the money reported by the media at non-household named players.

United will pay what they feel is right .
Which is why statements like "Just pay what they want " or it's only another 20 mill are a bit daft .

You say 200 mil is an absurd amount so is 50 or 60 .

If the club can get a deal done for a price they want I'm sure they will .
If not I would expect them to walk away not just pay what ever the other club wants.

Not long ago everyone was unhappy because we wouldn't spend what it took to be competitive.

Sanchez, Thiago, Javi Martinez, Bale, were all transfers where people thought Utd wouldn't pay what was necessary to just get the deal done.

Now we pay too much.

Sometimes people are just looking for a reason to slate the club.

It is not about having the most expensive players. Not about getting the best bargains and turning a profit.

This game is about getting to, and staying at, the top of the league. And we have got some catching up to do. First signing of the summer I am delighted with. He will be the perfect partner for Bailly. How about we give the club a chance to complete their plans?

Arsenal is a pretty good example and if you look over recent years both clubs fortunes have gone quite similarly.

Both have been a long way from winning the league and had to settle for the lesser regarded cup cometitions.

Just goes to show that the financial belt tightening and austerity at the emirates and the lavish spending at old trafford are not guarentees of any success, yet i would hasten to add that both clubs seem to be in fine financial fettle.

If we were to follow arsenals approach and walk away from deals when the valuations got a little over the top then in this current market we would be hard pressed to sign any players. This is because everyone can see our finances and knows that we have lots of money to spend so they effectively set one price for us and another for other clubs.

If we didn't sign any players this window due to inflated prices in the market, most posters on here would be pretty upset, yet when we do sign them they are also upset they are overpriced. Damned if you, damned if you don't i guess.

Define over the top?
The club will walk away when they think it is over the top not the fans .

No one is saying the club won't splash the cash .
They will get the players they want and at a price they are comfortable at .

I don't think anyone is complaining about it, it's just common sense.

As aposed to just pay what ever it takes,

There are a lot of players out there and you can't buy them all, I'm sure we have more than 1 option.

17 Jun 2017 15:45:36
Jred I think both your posts here very pragmatic. Well said.

17 Jun 2017 16:45:41
Maze I thought your reply was nonsense. Well put (not) 😆😆.

Jred i haven't said pay whatever it takes, just that this idea of fans coming up with their own valuations of what a player is worth is pretty absurd.

As i said the club would walk away from a deal which is not financially viable, i.e over the top, they have shown that spending 50, 60, 70 or even 80 millions quid is quite viable for them so if they paid that for morata i wouldn't be up in arms about it.

17 Jun 2017 18:21:48
Well said dsg.

17 Jun 2017 19:21:43
Dsg would you be up in arms if the club paid 80 mil for a player you didn't like or thought wasn't worth it?
If you wouldn't be up in arms about paying 80 mil for morata are you not putting a valuation on the player?

If city or Chelsea spend big on players like stones or Torres they get slated on this site. If united think morata is worth 80 mil I'm sure they will spend it if not they will prob move on. I'm sure they would spend more than that on the right player.

There seems to be a difference at the moment between what real and united value the player at so that would suggest that united are not going to simply pay what ever Madrid want . Which has been posted a few times now.
The club will pay what they think he is worth to them regardless if fans think he is not worth it, is worth it or is worth more .

17 Jun 2017 20:08:58
I wonder what they want for their first team players . 💣💥
Jred I found some of the things that have been posted about just pay whatever strange or what's another 20 million but to be fair to dsg I don't think it was him who said them .

17 Jun 2017 20:53:01
Yer I know it wasn't directed at dsg, just trying to explain my original point that he had replied to.
