Quote of you are getting very touchy over the Rashford post.

Apparently being on defoes level is a bad thing, as someone mentioned that's a hell of a career if he gets there.

I suspect we'll look back at his career and he'll be in the shadow of the likes of Harry Kane.

I'm sure he'll be a more than adequate player but everyone needs to calm down in how highly they rate him.

James Wilson, Henriquez, Welbeck, Cleverley and Rossi all got this level of praise and where are they now?

Rooney, Ronaldo, Ferdinand, De Gea, etc. Also got this level of praise and they've had decent careers.

My point is very simple though, he's a good young player but you're all starting to sound like Liverpool fans by thinking the guy has a God given right to play every game, some of you even act like he'll be the Balon D'or winner by default. It's ridiculous.

To the lad who mentioned my Van Gaal posts, I think he was a hell of manager over his career. And he should be looked at in a similar vein to Cruyff. Some of the best managers and players to ever grace the game have come under his tutorage.

It's irelevant how his career at United went, he doesn't deserve some of the disrespect shown by the vast majority of you.

Back on topic, I rate Rashford but in the same way I rated Welbeck, Sarabia, Pedro Leon, etc. A decent young player with a solid future ahead of them.

Offer me a choice of one out of Rashford, Martial, or any other young decent player in the world and I probably won't take Rashford.

Also this 'local lad' stuff is nonsense in my view, I couldn't care if he was from Manchester or Macedonia, the fact it alters your perception of him is very narrow minded in my view.

{Ed001's Note - if you really believe that of van Gaal, it makes it difficult to believe anything you have to say Moon. LVG was nothing like on the level of Cruyff, it was Cruyff that oversaw LvG when he was a success. Without Cruyff's guidance he was a very mediocre manager.}

This is going to be very interesting. Popcorn anyone?

29 Aug 2016 13:44:37
lvg had a great spell at ajax but that was down to a lot of other people, lvg just took the credit.
something he did a lot .
i thought of agree with you on rash, he still has a long way to go but he has made a great start .
i would say m owen was a better player at the same age tho.

29 Aug 2016 13:59:59
Moonrinho are you serious?

This is up there with the worst posts I have seen on here.

Rooney, Ronaldo etc? Decent careers? They have had exceptional careers mate. Welbeck and Cleverly etc are etching 'decent' careers for themselves.

I don't think anyone is getting over excited about Rashford. We are just excited to see a young kid who loves the game and the club play well. The kid is all heart and he does have the raw ability to do very well.

As for Van Gaal, well your slowly losing your merry marbles if you can still defend that dross of manager after he was shown for what he is at United - a fraud with no real idea and methodically. Van Gaal was lucky during his career with the squads he had. As soon as he had to build a team he was an epic fail.

Count me in IMBS.

Nobody is saying that Rashford will be world class. But he does have all the attributes to become a top class player and, more importantly, he has risen to every challenge he has faced. He went from a youth team winger to a first choice striker with nothing expected of him and took the chance with both hands. The lad is fearless and should be starting on merit not potential.

As for your LVG infatuation. The only thing that matters to me is his time at United. I don't support Ajax, Barca, Bayern or any of the other teams he managed. At United he got completely found out as a relic who couldn't adapt to the modern game. Spent hundreds of millions on new players and still saw fourth place as success. At the lowest points of his time here you were still fawning over his tactical prowess while the rest of the world saw him as a lame horse begging for a shotgun.

Ed, I don't think LVG is a God and I agree, Cruyff has a huge influence in his success, that cannot be denied.

But I do think a lot of players and now managers owe a lot to him for how he played a part in their development (not the entire thing but certainly a part) .

A lot of players at Bayern reportedly speak highly of him, a lot of coaches that I met (especially in Holland last summer) speak very highly of him and Pep and Jose are also on record of saying he had a huge influence on their careers.

He's also been an absolute sausage at times but what manager hasn't?

I've never met him but I know he's shares a lot of characteristics with a dictator but nonetheless I have a lot do respect for what he has done in football (regardless of how he had done it) .

{Ed001's Note - you will notice that every team improved only AFTER he left, not while he was there.}

JeeZ i have seen a lot of mad posts on here over the years but this has to be one of the ridiculous posts i seen.

Lvg was nothing more then a okay manager who was arrogant as hell to change his ways if he adjusted a little bit and swallowed his ego he wouldve had a better career.

Dare i say if Moyes had spent the amount of money he spend he woudlve produced better results.

Rashford is a young hungry talent and to say Ronaldo, De Gea has had decent careers then you completely lost me there, Ronaldo has won everything in his life and if that's decent then i don't know what is exceptional.

29 Aug 2016 14:33:33
Moonrinho I think your at the wind up here. These posts are ridiculous. Van Gaal was useless.

29 Aug 2016 14:41:42
Whatever about van Gaal at UTD. A lot of his past players have nothing but good things to say about him. Its interesting.

29 Aug 2016 14:57:30
Singh not trying to defend lvg but moyes would have been messed up even if he bought messi bale and ronaldo that season to utd. Lvg was not a great utd manager i would rank him along side likes of sexton as poor utd managers but moyes is without any competition is the by far worst manager utd has or will ever see.

29 Aug 2016 15:38:45
Moorinho. At first I thought the post was tongue in cheek and a bit of a piss take, but then to my horror, I realised you actually believe what you wrote.
All the players you mentioned were decent players, but not once did I think that Welbeck or Pedro Leon are going to be world class or be anything but average players. The same applies for januzaj or Wilson.
Rashford on the other hand, has something special about him, he has maturity beyond his years, he has a football brain which other players don't develop till later in their careers. He also has the all important speed and skill. Trust me on this one, he IS going to be a major player for us over the years. If you can't recognise his qualities, then just listen to the more knowledgeable people like Rio, Shearer et al, they all rate him extremely highly,
He was interviewed the other day after he'd won us the match against Hull and he spoke calmly and intelligently. This is unusual in a young man. It is his upbringing, intelligence and humility that is going to take him a long way and ensure he maximises his skill.
I would like to have a sporting wager that in three years time, you will be eating your words.

29 Aug 2016 16:04:43
lvg and moyes are the best managers to grace the modern era and i have no doubt young Rashford will be shipped out to Sunderland before long for maybe 10m great return on a young lad who cost us nothing not much of a prospect anyway and as he so much like Defoe then he couldn't have anyone better to learn off lol.

29 Aug 2016 17:45:52
That post is as mad as a box of frogs.

Yes, LVG was a good manager over the course of his career.

The Rashford comment reminds me of typical armchair critics of Andy Murray, saying he shouldn't be considered a top player. He's second in the world, and on his day can be best.

In the same way, the vast majority of armchair pundits don't have a clue what it takes to succeed in top level sport. Rashford is already competing at the top levels of the game, and I'm sure he will make a good career for himself. Whether that's at Pele, white Pele, Defoe or Macheda level remains to be seen, and depends on application and luck as well as skill.

But the boy is good. Beyond good. Pretending anything else is a bit strange.

29 Aug 2016 18:05:21
Stopped reading after lvg was mentioned.

29 Aug 2016 19:11:08
Lvg was a great manager 10 years ago and the game passed him by unfortunately.

29 Aug 2016 19:17:58
Stopped reading after this paragraph. 'Decent' careers. What exactly defines a hugely successful career in your eyes?

"Rooney, Ronaldo, Ferdinand, De Gea, etc. Also got this level of praise and they've had decent careers"

29 Aug 2016 20:10:45
Take it easy on the poor lad guys. He never meant it. Correct Moon? 😏.
