Really good in depth Jose feature in one of the football mags (the one named after a formation) . Talks to a lot of his ex players and maps his career from start to present day. Pretty balanced and pulls out the pros and cons, some of which are very similar.

The pros
1. He was things, lots of things regularly. He is the most successful Manager currently around.
2. He demands absolute commitment from his players, who he wants to get to know and understand.
3. He finds his best team and generally picks it, not a lot of tinkering.
4. He s dynamic and not afraid to change tactics 20 minutes in if necessary. Even SAF was sometimes slow to change things in game.
5. This be is mine. The United job is huge and needs a big strong character unafraid to embrace it. Jose fits that and it also seems that he really wanted this job.

The cons
1. His behaviour over the years has sometimes been unacceptable. The Wenger baiting, Anders Frisk, Vilanova.
2. The demands he places on the players are such that some simply can't cope. The Chelsea meltdown has never been properly chronicled.
3. Whilst he can be dynamic, he can be quite rigid in how he sets his team up - that may be to do with the resources he has had.
4. The jury is out on youth. The suspicion remains that the chequebook will be preferred to giving a homegrown an opportunity.

I'd recommend reading the full article it was quite enlightening. My hope is that his spell on the sides lines helped him reflect. He is clearly hugely talented and capable and this is his opportunity to build a dynasty, something he talked about doing at Chelsea.

Agree3 Disagree1

I hope he stays at United for a long time and builds dynasty like you mentioned.

01 Aug 2016 17:46:57
Sadly, with the nature of modern fans I think it's near impossible for any manager of a top club to build a dynasty, as soon as the club hits a rough patch then the knives are out 😔.

I believe he will be at United possibly for the rest of his career; or to the latter part of it. I just think he has found his home.

I have little doubt in my mind that jose will be a success but the problems will resurface if we don't strengthen when we are successful.

Youre right that we don't know the dull story of what happened at chelsea in his last season but certainly they did not meet his needs in the sunmer window. Dilobodji instead of stones, panic buying pedro at the end of the window and so on.

AJH are you warming to the man now. I know you weren't happy about his appointment but the guy is a winner. We will be ten times better this season 😆😆.

BFRO, he could be brilliant for us, he could be a disaster. s a bloke I thnk he is box office, I worry he loses it too easily and just hope he is prepared to invest his long term time in embedding himself in our club. I also think he is the main reason Chelsea are such a bunch of arrogant bullying a-holes because of him. Possibly harsh, almost certainly fair.

01 Aug 2016 20:48:33
Can we not give him a chance before slagging him? Where is the support?

01 Aug 2016 21:06:58
Schmid, not slagging him off, just pointing people to a really good article which was really balanced.

01 Aug 2016 21:51:05
Not just me then that has noticed the shift in attitude Tony.
He has been at Chelsea for less than half the last 15 years approx a third of that time so how you can come to that conclusion is mind blowing. Harsh but fair is a contradiction in terms also
And when fergie was here are you suggesting that United were not an arrogant bullying bunch? Of course we were led by the ultimate on pitch bully in Keane.
I read the article you recommended ir was very good and balanced. Nobody is perfect but if you look at his flaws fegie possessed very similar traits in afloat every respect we should not forget that. The only difference is wet viewed them through red glasses.
Now I view Jose through red glasses because He is one of us and I'm delighted to have him warts and all.

Ken, you need to get over this. I was referring to the Attitude he instilled in them. Yes SAF was similar but remember when our players chased Durso around the pitch? SAF later said he knew things had gone too far and told them all to back off. It is possible to both complimentary and critical of a team / Manager / player. First it was jred and now me, you are becoming some kind of banter police. Instead of calling me negative, argue your point, really happy to debate and discuss.

02 Aug 2016 09:25:05
AJH as soon as your OWN opinion doesn't fit the status quo you get labelled negative on here.

Welcome to the club.

02 Aug 2016 09:29:55
Tony,

You have now placed yourself in the MAZE apologists club, bet you are delighted.

02 Aug 2016 09:43:43
Better that than GDS2's thread trolling club.

02 Aug 2016 11:18:58
Maze which club would Rollo be in or JMB . Oh I remember that meltdown day like it was yesterday. BRILLIANT 😆😆.

02 Aug 2016 11:45:57
Meltdown?

02 Aug 2016 12:54:39
Classic meltdown.
