J red, no matter what Rooney does you will feel aggrieved if someone airs a negative comment about him. He has been a brilliant player for us. Not a great one, but good one. But if you don't think his performances have declined in the last 18 months, his touch is awful and he slows the pace of the attack down, then I can't take your posts seriously.

He was given credit by the vast majority of fans a few years ago. It's plain to the eye he isn't the player he once was. You could argue that he may hold the team back. Personally it's more that Moyes signed him on a new contract on mega wages which realistically ensured that no clubs apart from those in China would be prepared to buy and match his wages.
He's does deserve credit and did get credit for the performances he once put in. Now he's just a good/ decent player. Against the top teams he loses possession quite easily and the game passes him by.

the other page was started as the site was getting clogged up with people moaning, i honestly think we should have a rooney page for stand and co.
we have rash, depay, mick, zlatan, rooney, mata, linder in the attacking roles great options for the manager
after 60 minutes of a friendly the site is again clogged up with the same rooney debate . 60 MINUTES is all it took.
we have great options up top, look light in cm (herrera and schnider continue to struggle ) we also look light at cb.
we scored 5 goals last night rooney got 2 and all you have down the site is same people (myself included ) saying the same things.
the season hasn't started, 60 min of a friendly in which rooney scored 2 in his first run out and the knives are out.

I think this will be a make or break year for Rooney, plenty of players are able to play in that no.10 role and if he is not performing I can see Mourinho moving him on at the end of the year.

No, your complaining about people moaning about Rooney. The reason people are complaint about Rooney is that he isn't good enough to start anymore and holds the team back. So that's what my comment refers to! Not quoted what j red said. Rooney scored two, one a pen, in a meaningless friendly. Wow. I don't base my opinion of Rooney on one game. I'm basing it over the last two years. and the last two years he's been bang average / poor! That's why I want him and his £260k a week off the books. Mata is far better in the 10 role than Rooney.

I agree mata has been average pal. But he's not had a season in the 10 role. His best role. He was class at Chelsea playing that position and I can't for the life of me understand why he doesn't for us. An average mata is better than Rooney in the 10 now. Not 5 years ago. But now.

Last season: Rooney scored 8 (penalty taker also, just to note), Mata scored 6. Rooney 7 assists; Mata 6 assists. Just going off this you'd say pretty similar returns with Rooney just ahead.
However, as it's been pointed out by many, stats aren't everything. Surely when you see Rooney constantly give the ball away, even under no pressure, it makes your blood boil! The amount of times I borderline beat the missus up every game because Rooney in particular kills our attack and we get countered on is unbelievable.
I'm not actually a Rooney hater, in fact I'd love him to be bang in form, but the point is he's not, and he hasn't been for some time now! The reason for my stats was to show that they were similar in terms of returns last season, and neither delivered anywhere near the returns you want for a number 10 (yes I'm fully aware neither played the role as often as we'd like) .
Personally I'd like mata to get a run there, I think his ball retention is much better, he thinks a lot quicker and his vision and execution are overall better. Wth quick players around him he could really create a lot of scoring opportunities. So what does everyone else think?
