The 3rd choice England CB is worth £50m. so Smalling, first choice England CB, must b worth? Time to cash in.

Agree1 Disagree0

I would take stones over smalling all day long.

I'm in the minority but I don't rate Stones. He is good on the ball but I don't think he can defend. I really hope City blow another £50M on him as I think he is way way over priced.

Its a lot of cash and to be honest i don't think your in the minority but i think he is going to be a top player .
I still think a team that defends well makes a player look better than he is and a team that defends in evertons case awful can make a player look poor .
Just turned 22, has a lot of good things about his game pal for a cb.

I don't really rate either of them. I think with good defensive coaching Stones has potential but if a defender can't defend surely he shouldn't play in defence.

Can you imagine a player like Steve Bruce not ever getting an England cap and watching Cahill, Smalling, Stones and Jones being the best English defenders around now. Bruce and Pallister would be worth 100m each in today's market.

jred if Stones played for us and Smalling for a different team, I bet you would rate Smalling higer then Stones.

Walrus
Why?

Stones needs to baulk up a bit and stop switching off.

29 Jul 2016 01:57:40
Switching off didn't do Rio Ferdinand much harm, he used to do the same regularly, but was still considered one of the better defenders.

29 Jul 2016 02:01:43
That's not true walrus he will say what he thinks.

29 Jul 2016 06:41:24
I am trying to find the news, has he actually made the move or people to city?

I know a lot of people compare him to rio but i remember watching rio before he joined us always thought god he is good with stones i never have thought that. he has too many defensive mistakes in him which gets overlooked because he is goo on the ball which i actually think is where a lot of his mistakes happen.

29 Jul 2016 09:28:53
X files I have to agree. Rio was always a good defender that also had pace and composure on the ball. Yes he made mistakes but they were so few and far between that when he went to Leeds I was gutted as felt we had missed s gem. With stones I can see a great player but really not sure CB is his best position. In a way it is similar to Jones when he first joined, a great player but may get moved around and as a result be unable to meet his potential. I do however think if any manager will get the best out of stones it will be pep.

It normal for people to want what they don't have but Smalling is the best english defender currently. The grass isn't always greener.
