I'm as excited as anybody abut the coming season but I am uncomfortable about the revolving door we are currently seeing. 3 players signed and probably another couple to come in (some posters want more) ; that's on top of all the new players last year, and the new players the year for that. I know we needed refreshing and rebuilding but it does feel like buy buy buy and everything will be all right. As we have seen, many of our purchases have not worked out, there are no guarantees.

Jose has a reputation for improving players so we can only hope that he delivers and that we can get some stability. Integrate the new players, improve the existing ones, and bring through some youngsters.

Iv been thinking the same thing, all the money spent on blind Herrera Mata fellaini rojo darmian shwiny martial Ext, then you have the players who have come through cbj rashford tfm Pereira adnan ext, then you have the originals Rooney Smalling Jones de gea young Carrick ext, and there is lots more.
I guess with some carefull trimming and quality new comers Jose can carve a great squad, but I would expect the nucleus of that squad to include the youth.

Leaves the manager with no excuses really. he's getting in his guys and getting rid of the deadwood in his opinion.

The last summer window we didn't have upheaval was moyes 1st and we only signed fellaini. The club was criticised for not being decisive enough.

Bang on the money AJH. That's been my concern for a long time, as you will know. Its become all about short term success, and to be honest that was never going to change with the appointment of Jose.
I would genuinely love to see United appoint a young manager with the intention of building something special for the long term. But that would involve the fans being patient and accepting a few seasons without trophies, and we all know that will not happen any more. So I guess that's the way things will be now - resorting to always being the highest bidder and paying the highest wages in an attempt to attract players who don't really want to be here.
DiMaria should have been a lesson learned, yet we seem to be following the same path with Pogba, if the reports are to be believed.
People keep saying'its not our money so why should we care', but these are also the same fans who take the moral highground when it comes to Chelski and City etc. Its such a shame we have to resort to this.
We sold our soul to the devil a long time ago now, and we will never be able to buy it back.

Unfortunately this is what happens when the managerial door keeps revolving and especially so when you don't succeed.
I think we have hit Crunch point of too many seasons without a title. We have brought mourinho in and whilst I believe youngsters will get a chance he also wants new buys to help get the success. we also had a small squad last year so there is room to bring players in.

Tony

I do agree with that and really concerned when I read 100 mill for Pogba. I understand we need retooling and some of LVG and Moyes's buys have been quite poor and happens to every club as there are many misses on new players.

I do hate the idea of paying for players who seem to be just about who pays the most and Pogba falls in that category no matter what you think of him as a talent.

I agree with a lot of this, its not all about buying big names.

After the sale of Ronaldo which truly top class player did we buy while SAF was in charge, and which top youth player did we bring through? DDG was arguably the only one, and recalling his first season, even that was a major risk on an unproven talent. Rather than refresh - for whatever reason - SAF squeezed every drop out of a brilliant but aging squad. Once the core had gone - Scholes, Giggs, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Fletcher - what was left were the journeymen and an overweight Rooney, plus Carrick. Hardly surprising in retrospect what followed. Moyes's failure to inspire was compounded by an inability to bring in anyone to fill the glaring deficiencies. Mata and Moyes were his, and Herrera was his intended if reports are to be believed. He left the club in ruins. Preceding events and injuries conspired against him, but he did not help himself either.

LVG inherited a club where a virtual 100% makeover was required. He had two things in his favor: the debt situation was now under control and the club's future commercial revenues, now the biggest slice of its income, depended on on field success and brand development. Spending big is the grease that touches both buttons. Big names = lots of attention. Win or lose it stokes controversy = lots of attention. Click click = money. Why Mourinho and not some young upcoming manager? Brand recognition. If Pogba comes, why? Brand recognition. From a business point of view winning games is only as important as the revenue, including tied commercial income, that Champions League participation brings in.

It's all pretty gross really. Insofar as sport is a metaphor for real life, football is now just a part of the neoliberal conspiracy victimizing the masses.

Agreed Tony, the amount of money being splashed and number of changes being made all at once is a slight worry, considering our history of being successful by achieving consistency from one season to the next. Transfers in football have gotten obscene and we seem to be right at the fore front of that right now. When I see some posters still hoping for draxler to come in and even another full back on top of a midfielder and another CB, just seems like the world has gone mad sometimes!

Another slight worry is we seem to be bringing in some big ego's who have that selfish or showboating edge, Ibra obviously, Mickey perhaps, Pogba if he signed and we already have Rooney who prefers a hollywood pass over a 5 yard ball into space. Its just as important that we have some hard working cogs to link all these superstars together - I hope Jose can find the right balance.

Even though I have these concerns I am so much looking forward to next season and excited to see what we can achieve with Jose etc on board. My hope is that after this initial burst of transfers, we can move forwards into subsequent seasons by just refreshing the squad in one or two areas with real quality, rather than splashing out on 5 or 6 players each summer.

If we don't buy anyone and lose come may 2017 then peoplewill say we shouldve bought players.

We need top players to be back where we were. The likes of city chelsea and liverpool are already buying or bought few good players.

Our team laka quality to be winning things.

Sing
we have bought 3 players and the transfer window has just opened.

03 Jul 2016 12:50:59
I know that's what i mean. We need quality signings, maybe not pogba especially for the price but we need top signings to be back at the top.

We haven't competed for last 3 years and i am sure this will have an effect on the clubs reputation and finances.

In order for us to start challenging again we might have to buy players that don't want to play but will sign because of the wages.

Obviously i don't want 10 signings but another 2 signings such as a cm and a cb will be perfect.

There will be a lot of players that do want to play for the club .
Would it not be better to buy them ones.

03 Jul 2016 15:04:49
I 100 percent agree with you Jred, you should always buy players that wants to play for you permitting they are good enough.
