Whilst still reflecting on what has been a very turbulent season, who will join me in a great big "thank you" to DDG to whom we owe so much for the somewhat muted success that we have had.
This I feel is due even if he leaves in the summer (hope he doesn't)

He's been incredible for a few years now, possibly the best in the world, if there was any player in the world i'd want at the club over anyone else next season it would be him.

25 Apr 2016 13:23:55
Completely agree. Wonder why he gets ignored in the POTY nominations though.

He deserves to leave. The best players in the world should be challenging for titles - not battling it out for fourth place.

I'm incredibly grateful for his service and wish him all the best wherever he ends up.

Super player wish he rejects his wifes wishes and decides to stay in the uk.

25 Apr 2016 14:17:36
He does not deserve to leave. He has a contract he signed it and he is playing for the biggest club in England one if the biggest in Europe in front of the biggest crowd for fans that adore him. Albeit not at the sharp end of challenging for the biggest titles for the last 3 seasons . Imo he is paid handsomely and should be the corner stone if or attempt to get back to the top. I hope he stays he deserves to play for our club.

Ken i think deserves to leave is probably the wrong phrase as it makes it sound like he's doing us a favour by playing for us. But i do echo redsevens sentiments that de gea would be well within his rights to request a move this summer.

A player of his quality should be playing the upcoming champions league semi finals not in a team failing to make it out of the group. It probably depends on whether he's prepared to wait for us to get back to that level we were at when he signed as he probably has 10+ years left at the top level.

25 Apr 2016 14:57:39
He signed the contract dsg he should see it out unless he had a prior agreement to leave before signing it
I would think messi neymar and Suarez deserve to play in the cl semi talent wise but in reality they don't deserve it because they didn't make it that far.

Ken - Our failures domestically and in Europe do not reflect on DDG at all. He has done all that he can these past few seasons and has been let down by the rest of the team. If we had a player of DDGs caliber playing with the same consistency that he does in all 11 positions we would win everything with ease.

Given the debacle surrounding his exit last summer I expect that the new contract came with some assurances that he would be allowed to leave for the right price this summer.

The best players want to win trophies and be first choice for their countries. It seems that for the immediate future he will be unable to do either whilst playing for us. As young as he is - footballers do not have particularly long careers and every year he spends with us in a floundering team is one less that he can compete at the highest level.

I would love nothing more than for him to stick it out until we get back to our best - but who knows when that will be. At the moment we appear to be going backwards and the fact that LVG is still at the club suggests that that isn't going to change anytime soon.

25 Apr 2016 16:16:54
So should we let martial go too. He is a top young talent deserving of cl football. Or Shaw? Because we feel dirty for them not winning. If we sell our best players it well take linger to get back to the top. I can't believe you think he should go. Complete nonsense imo.

25 Apr 2016 16:44:09
Ken - He is not a Manchester United fan. He is an employee of the club. If he no longer wants to stay at the club he should be allowed to leave. Would you rather we keep him here against his will?

How would you feel if everybody else at the place you worked sat around doing nothing all day and you had to work twice as hard to cover for them? How would you feel if after several years of this you decided to resign and your boss turned around and refused to let you leave?

25 Apr 2016 17:18:10
Saw the tv footage of him celebrating after the winning goal. Just him in his goalmouth area. Maybe, It's just wishful thinking, but he didn't appear to be a guy who had his heart set on leaving the club.

25 Apr 2016 17:27:51
How do you know he still wants to leave. Metro?

25 Apr 2016 17:48:30
Exactly he is am employee that committed to the club and gets paid a fortune. Totally unfair to say that his team mates sit around doing nothing. If you had your own way the best 11 players in the world would be in one team because they all deserve to win because they are the best. That is why football is a team game not one for spoilt brats that only want to play in a team that wins. Ddg proved he wants to stay by signing a new contract and hads never once come it and said I want Madrid like ronaldo did.

25 Apr 2016 18:18:25
Ken - What exactly has changed between now and last summer when he wanted to go? That he's a professional and has not publicly declared his desire to leave does not mean that he suddenly wants to stay.

Perhaps he signed his new deal because he felt bad knowing that if he didn't - the club that spent a lot of money and put a lot of faith in him when he was younger would lose out on a transfer fee? Perhaps he signed with the assurance that he would be able to leave at the end of the season whilst earning an extra £120k a week?

If I had my way - we would be competitive and DDG would want to stay because he had a chance of winning things with us. Until we are competitive again I will not be surprised to see top players go elsewhere in order to have a chance of winning things nor will I resent them for it. I would much rather have players playing for us because they can win things with us than have players playing for us because of how much we pay them.

25 Apr 2016 20:37:04
Obviously no one here wants to sell him, he's our best player and is the only world class player in our squad. I think the point being made is you can't resent him for leaving. He's done this club a great service, dealt with last summer's transfer respectfully and got his head down and performed at the highest level again, but top players are going to want to be competing against the best players and I don't think anyone can hold anything against the guy for having that ambition - especially with the wife and family factors being considered too.
