it's a joke really when I think about it mate, a handful of games and he's called up to England!

sad state of England football if u ask me.

15 Nov 2015 12:34:21
I'm absolutely made up for him, he's worked hard and he's been playing well for us. I hope he gets a run out and I hope he enjoys every minute of the experience.

I agree CTR. If the like of Neville, Ferdinand, Cole, Campbell, Beckham, Scholes, Gerrard, Owen etc. couldn't win anything why do we expect us to do anything with this current lot? The only players that could get into the team of around 10 years ago are Hart and perhaps Rooney.

15 Nov 2015 12:37:39
I think its insane a player like Delph has played 45mins all season and he starts for England what's that all about?
Why are in form players not playing like they should be?

A discussion a few weeks ago between Rio and Hargreaves was who would you pick up front for Euros for England, Kane, Vardy or Rooney?

Rio: Vardy because he's on form and playing well.
Hargreaves: Rooney because he "deserves it"

This is excatly why England won't win nothing.

Fresh - Exactly what I thought, it kind of demeans everything that came before.

Not just Lingard but lots of players get called up now having done very little.

It seems anybody can get an England cap now, soon kids won't be dreaming of playing for their country because it is so easy to accomplish, "it was so 20th Century to be proud to play for your country"!

15 Nov 2015 13:20:59
Fresh that team didn't do as well because of poor management. That and the media over hyping everyone expecting us to win something then turning in people soon as the massive expectations never came off.

Fair to play lingard. I've seen worse players get capped over the years.

End of the day we're playing friendly matches. I thought the whole point of a friendly game at international level was to experiment with both new tactics and systems and to try out new players.

As I said previous managers mismanaged England by always picking the same old faces no matter what. Least Hodgson does try out new faces.

And how about backing one of our own lads. Radical I know.

15 Nov 2015 13:45:46
Sorry Fresh I mis-read. I thought you were saying what would those players think?

15 Nov 2015 17:23:36
Well yes Beast. I just think it's ridiculous that a lad who has played 90 minutes on a couple of occasions for us is now going to get his first England cap. It used to be a thing to strive to, now it's just inevitable for a decent English player in the Premier League.

What would the likes of Scholes and Beckham thought if a sprog with no EPL experience was in the England squad with them. I think it's ridiculous.

16 Nov 2015 10:45:14
Pretty sure when beckham and scholes were in the England squad loads of players got their chance in friendlies, David nugent being one example, nowhere near good enough but deserved his chance. You can't compare top players who are in the squad every time to young up and coming players like lingard or obviously there is going to be a difference.

16 Nov 2015 14:06:27
did he not play a lot for england u21s.
is there any chance he has got a call up due to his form with the u21s .
is that not how it should be?

16 Nov 2015 16:51:12
Jred,

Yes and one of them games was for the under 21s when Hodgson took charge of them. He is clearly getting his chance because LVG thinks he is good enough to play on the wing for Manchester United, surely the England manager would be silly not to see him for himself in a friendly?
