The striker position is interesting I think with Rooney a definite starter and us playing just the one up top, I'd like to get people's thoughts cz the way I see it is 3 potential options;
1) RVP stays and is back up to Roo, along with Wilson, therefore RVP can remain fit.
2) We sign a younger, impressive up and coming striker who is happy to wait his turn behind Rooney.
3) We sign a top class striker, Cavani etc. and this is where I get stuck with this option, they wait there turn or play ahead of Rooney?

Three options:

1) We sign someone like Muller who can play wide which means Di Maria drops into the middle 3 with Rooney up top.

2) We sign a centre forward that see's Rooney drop into the middle 3.

3) We sign a new attacking midfielder (goal scoring midfielder) who plays in the middle 3 with Rooney ahead.

My preference is the first option. Sign someone like Muller and have Muller and Depay wide with Rooney spearheading the attack and Di Maria pulling the strings alongside Herrera and Schneiderlin.

at the start of the season we had falcao ,rvp,rooney and wilson.
falcao has gone i think rvp may leave so there is room for a striker

Im with fresh on this one .Plus we have a very good back -up squad to replace any injuries etc Mata Fellaini Young and Blind.😆😆

Don't like the idea of rvp as back up , I don't think he'd accept that role and could be a disruptive influence in the squad

We need a 20 goal a season striker, RvP can't do it any more. And Rooneys goals have always come in bursts, I think he has only scored more than 20 goals in a season a couple of times in his 13 year professional career which suggest he probably isn't the man to do it.

I think Rooney will continue to play as either a ST No.10 or maybe even wider in some games.

Maybe we should sign one of Cavani or Lacazette who could play as a ST or wider if needed.

Oh please not Rooney in midfield LVG ha. I think Herrera alongside somebody but who, hmm. di Maria perhaps. Option 1 would be good tho fresh.
I agree there would be room for a striker jred but needs to be one that doesn't mind sitting behind Rooney in the pecking order, unless of course fresh' option 2 happens. Or we go 4231 and have Rooney drop to the '10' role to accomadate a new striker but then I fear Herrera would be the sacrifice.

I genuinely feel Rooney will cross the 20 goal mark this season

I think if we are playing 433 then I am happy with Rooney/RVP/Wilson assuming RVP stays. If we moved towards a 4231 then I can see the need for another striker to play up top with Rooney coming into the middle of the 3 behind as a 10 type.

i can't see us moving for a striker this window tbh. i can honestly only see us moving for 1 maybe 2 at a push more signings which will be 3 including depay. i think it will be a CB and possibly a CM

Srestha what makes you so sure he's only done it twice in his career and he's at an age where you start to see tail off in goals.

I personally don't think we will sign a big name striker this summer but I'm also thinking if carrick is fit he plays so Schneiderlin may be the only MF signed, who knows eh.
Ed004 if your about what is your thoughts on who plays where next season, di Maria wide or central, Rooney up top or deeper, sign a forward or a second MF? Thanks in advance.

{Ed004's Note - I would only play Rooney as a striker. Di Maria would depend on the opposition. Sometimes he should play centrally or out wide}
