Afternoon,
Anybody on here feel all of this talk linking Ramos and Schweinsteiger with going to United is just the players using your club in order to get a new improved contract at their current club. i'm not a united fan but it seems so similar to all of the talk with Rooney wanting to leave a couple of years back. Think ye will all be dissapointed come the end of the transfer window with you all getting your hopes so high. Even if true do you want to be paying such high fees and wages to older players who are no doubt superstars but unproven in the premier league?

Agree0 Disagree0

At first I just assumed that Ramos was angling for a new contract. Now it seems like there is a slight chance that the spat between Perez and Ramos could boil over into a transfer request. However, I would still be surprised if we actually signed him.

Schweinsteiger is different. He wants to play a leading role in his team, and Pep has never shown him complete confidence. For example, signing Alonso told Schweinsteiger that Pep didn't see him as the right player to dictate the play. The question he's asking himself is if he wants to spend another few years as one of Bayern's players, or a key player at United. I think the prospect of working under a manager he trusts and being given the job of dictating things here.

I don't think either player would have much difficulty adapting to the EPL. Schweinsteiger, in particular, is the type of battler who is perfect for this league. The major reason for targeting this type of player is that we are severely lacking in leadership. Proven leaders, and winners, like Schweinsteiger and Ramos would be a massive help in organising the team.

I guess I agree with your logic there Danny but for me I feel both players are quite old for the money and wages they would command. Would you not prefer your club to be looking for more long term solutions to your problems? You need 2 cbs also but the money required to push Ramos through would make signing two probably not feasible. And I do feel he would have his work cut out with one of your shambolic cbs beside him and without De gea behind him. Look at the players he has played alongside at Madrid for the past decade. Jones and Smalling just don't cut it. And I feel you really need to add goals to your team this year too as RVP is past is chicarito has never been good enough and Rooney can't continue to carry that burden. I agree completely with the proven winners comment though and while a spine of Ramos Schweinsteiger and Rooney sounds quite formidable where will you turn in case of injuries?

Jack,

Who do you support? You sound like you are looking at all things United related and turning them into negatives. Even at the end when you state with them players we would be formidable you still put a negative spin on it about injuries. Where would any team be if all their best players got injured?

Ramos has only just turned 29, hardly old for a centre back, we could get 4-5 years out of him and money isn't really a major issue for us, we have more money this year and Falcao's wage already off the payroll so I wouldn't worry about that.

Schweinsteiger would be a great signing, his fee wouldn't be that high and he would bring with him great experience.

Chris Smalling has improved a lot over the last 6 months of last season, to call him shambolic is just daft, playing next to a player like Ramos he could be fantastic.

I am by no means saying we will sign Ramos or Schweinsteiger, I don't get my hopes up about any transfer until Ed (Woodward not 001) is smiling with them at a photoshoot, but if we did sign them they would be fantastic signings, I think anybody saying different would be just being a little bit bitter.

I thought alonso was signed to replace Toni Koos. As such alonso's arrival is immaterial in terms of pep's confidence in schweinsteiger.

His limited playing time was more to do with a poor injury record.

They are old, but one of the most important things the class of 92 say about their development is that they were helped by vocal older figures like Cantona, Keane and Ince. I think a player like Smalling, for instance, could make a massive leap if playing alongside a world class player like Ramos every week.

The club needs a mix of experienced leaders and young players with potential. We could obviously do with some more young talents, but the experience is absolutely crucial. Injuries will always happen, but age shouldn't stop a club trying to bring in the right players.

You are a gunners fan right?

Is this the same smalling that wenger would be standing at the door first in line and fork out serious money to get him.

Where would you be when kos is injured?

Sorry guys Liverpool fan here. Really not trying to be bashing your club and not being negative just because its Man Utd. I guess I am putting a negative spin on it slightly but purely for the purpose of discussion. And I am also not making a comparison between the strength, or lack thereof, of anyone elses club. GCU Wenger also gave you plenty of money for Danny Welbeck think he's quality too? And GDS2 I agree any club would be in trouble with all of their best players injured I was merely suggesting if Ramos was the only CB you signed this summer if he was to get injured it leaves you with the same defence that gave away the most opportunities to other teams last year and there would be no De Gea behind it to mop. It might be a negative spin but its true. Same goes for Rooney, if he was to pick up an injury who would you place your trust in to get the goals? Fellaini? i'm not bashing and hating just because i'm a liverpool fan. I think we can all agree your squad does not have the strength it once had and to think everything is rosy because of top4 doesn't cut it. Your squad needs serious work realistically.

jack
fair post imo.
schweiny has been a top player and i wish we had of git him a few years ago.
still a decent player but had a average season and imo his best days are behind him . wouldn't be my first choice or second or third.
he also only managed 20 league games last season and 23 the year before due to injuries.
truth is i think he has a year on his contract wants a long term deal and us trying to get it one way or another.

ramos imo would be a good signing for various reasons just seems a bit strange that after saying he feels disrespected that madrid let his contract go in to the "final 2 year"
he has been linked with united and barcelona.

so schweiny no
and ramos yes , but i wouldn't be surprised if both aren't just looking for a new contract
