We all know Rooney divides opinion on here but as fans United have always been great at giving players who have left great receptions on their return to Old Trafford. What ever people's views on Rooney are, I hope he gets a great reception when he returns, his first 8/ 9 years certainly deserve it and out weigh the final years as a United player.

I will happily give him a warm welcome.

Offcourse they will give him a great reception, why would they not. He is the all time leading scorer for the club and been a great player for us.

Will always get a warm reception from Manchester United part of the clubs DNA. 😆😆.

He will get a great reception at OT great fan base with only a small majority boo'ing or slagging players off .

Guaranteed a warm reception, probably a boo in jest for his first touch of the ball but will always be appreciated for what he's given this club.

He will be cheered from the rafters and rightly so. He will be remembered for the brilliant displays he had.
People don't remember cantonna for his petulance and kung fu kick the don't rember keane for his premeditated career ending assault on haland. They don't remeber ronaldo for pushing for a move. Fans won't remember or choose to forget the bad points of club legends as time goes by. Best to remember the good times and there were enogh of them.

{Ed007's Note - Keane's poorly timed tackle didn't end Haaland's career, people forget that he finished that game then played in Norway's international match midweek and started City's next game.
And Keane caught him on his right knee - it was an injury to his left knee that caused him the problems that stopped his career. Haaland himself later admitted he had been playing with an injured left knee for months and that it hadn't taken a knock during that match or from Keane's challenge.}

Keane admitted the intent to injure him and that he didn't even go for the ball. Not good professional behaviour at all but it sums up keanes eye for an eye nature.
My point is that people now remember him for his fantastic leadership and play not for any of his midameanors and they should and will do the same for Rooney when he returns.

{Ed007's Note - It still wasn't Keane's fault though.}

Come on, everyone remembers all those incidents vividly. It's just that on balance they were all still club legends. But a clear analysis of them, and of any player, should always incorporate both the bad and good. Forgetting these things would mean our assessment of our current players will be less accurate (assessing players is inherently comparative) . So we do, and should, remember that Ronaldo pushed for a move and that Keane had a violent streak, because if we hero worship them we won't judge our current players accurately.

That's fair wisco. i'm The modem era where everything a player does and is scrutinised to the highest degree and am era when players live their lives on social media in front of millions on a daily basis there are not many that won't screw up from time to time. There won't be many more Denis irwin / Paul scholes types who just play and train and you didn't hear of or from them until a post match interview.

That's true Ken. And I agree with you that Rooney should be remembered for the good times as a great United player - but he was great warts and all. even great players have bad times. He should be remembered as a legend with his faults. Because our next great players will have faults too, and shouldn't be compared with "perfect" memories - because that is unfair to yong players (like Rashford) in the spotlight.

it was a revenge tackle by keane for one did to keane when keane got a bad injury and haaland stood over roy shouting that keane was faking the injury, so that's why roy returned the favour by doing him and standing over him shouting "dont ever accuse me of feigning injury you bleeping bleep" i loved the challenge it took me back to my playing days in "genteel glasgow" lol.
