Were through and facing Anderlecht over two legs. A decent draw for us. I thought we played well yesterday with the formation we played. I was worried that despite us controlling the game, we would give away a silly goal.
This season we don't seem to have luck in our side. But given our gruelling fixture list we are doing well. There's room for improvement, hopefully Rashford can put away a few more goals before the season ends.
I think Shaw would thrive playing in a 3421 formation as both him and Valencia love to attack. Once Martial, Rooney etc return we we probably return to the 4231 formation.
I've quietly been impressed with Mourinho this season. We look better defensively, he recognised that keeping Rojo as a cb instead of a left wing back was better for the team and put Jones out there (Young may have been a better choice given his pace) .
We won the EFL cup, are 6th with two games in hand, got knocked out by Chelsea in the quarter finals and three days later qualified for the Europa league quarter finals. Definitely our best season since Fergie left. This might just be the beginning of something special here. Fingers crossed.

Are you kidding mad hatter. Jones as left back? He can't run. He got a nose bleed when he went over the halfway line last night.
I don't rate Shaw and as you rightly said, Rojo is better cb than left back. Valencia runs to the halfway line then stops and passes backwards every time.
Both fullback positions have to be sorted this summer.

I never said he was good at left back. I think Mourinho realised that the back 3 was playing well and working together so decided not to change it.
I would have played Young there over Jones.

Schmidfield, Valencia used to do that but not in recent times. He's been class at RB for around 18 months Imo and has been a lot more adventurous. I'm sure he got a few crosses in last night as the most recent example of not passing backwards.

I personally think Valencia has performed well for us this season. Jones at left back is definitely a last resort though and probably only came on yesterday to protect our lead as he offered nothing offensively.
