The signs are very encouraging at the moment when you consider that United are currently only 4 points off second place. As someone stated a while back on here at this moment in time all United can do is look after their own results and hope other results above them go their way.

For me after the shambolic start with those stuttering draws a top 3 finish would be satisfactory at this point. CL qualification is absolutely paramount. I still feel City may catch Chelsea depending on what Pep can get out of his players. No CL for Arsenal will spell the end of Wenger and a potential downward spiral, no CL for Spurs will show signs of regression and no CL for Klopp will demoralise even the most optimistic of Liverpool fans. Interesting indeed.

As a fan there is some of Jose's methods I disagree with but on the whole if he can get the right results and momentum those concerns can be addressed in the summer. I feel the ability is there to snatch a CL spot this season and really push for the main prize the season after. It is now important that Jose gets the best out of the players and keeps his media antics to a minimum as the last thing the club needs at the moment is another Dr Eva scandal type of thing to hit the media.

Hopefully Tuesday/ Wednesday night football is back for good at the theatre next season.

Not much to disagree with there mate except I expect us to finish 2nd .
Good post .

Hear hear Maze.

Has someone hacked Maze's account?

Deano I admire you optimism but I am not so sure about 2nd. At the moment I think top 3 is possible but United must be ruthless when others drop points. Having said that I think Chelsea may have a few mishaps and I fancy City to beat them when they play each other. I think someone can catch them I am just not convinced it will be United.

Sir Alec maybe MAZE just says it as it is? There's a thought.

Maze is back on the prozac. Lol. Actually I don't think there is a lot to disagree with in that post. To be honest I would be happy with 4th. You have to remember that potentially we could play between 5-10 games more than some of the teams above us. Add to that the potential travelling we might have to do with Europa league commitments it will be hard to maintain fitness levels. For me momentum is the key, you don't feel the tiredness anywhere near as much when your winning.

But I'm very hopeful for the rest of the season, I feel we could add one or two pieces of silverware to the cabinet this season.

If we do can we really say our season has been a failure? Probably not. let's just keep going and keep cheering them on, they will need our support more than ever to carry them through the tough fixtures left.

The irony would be finishing 6th but winning the Europa.

15 Feb 2017 12:24:31
Shappy I think given how the season has panned out finishing in third would be satisfactory but the goal was a title push hence the big money purchases and the bringing in Mr 'instant success' Mourinho.

I don't feel Utd will win the Europa as the team is too hot and cold to sustain a real challenge in the cup now that only the most proficient teams remain. For me Jose has to focus on his bread and butter which is how to get wins in the PL in order to guarantee CL football next season and keep the revenue money tree from the sponsors evergreen.

To be honest Maze I think oddly enough we have more chance of winning the Europa league than finishing third.

Mourinho has a great record in cup competitons, especially in Europe.

Yes the team have blown hot and cold, but the mentality seems to be starting to bleed into the team. Yeah we've blown hot and cold, but we have actually lost very few games, hence us still being in three cup competitons. We draw too many, but we don't lose easily.

Combine that with us needing teams above us to drop more points than us while playing less games makes climbing the league table very hard, case in point we are unbeaten in the league since November 2, yet still in 6th place.

So with both those points in mind I find myself in the odd situation where I truely believe we have more chance of winning the Europa league than finishing third.

Although don't rule out both, it has beem one of those kind of seasons.

Oh my god I've caught disagreeitus off maze 6 disagrees!

Good post my friend and i too think qe qill finish 3rd or 4th.

15 Feb 2017 22:23:24
Not a great deal of difference between 3rd and 4th so happy with either, Liverpool gave the Europa a go last year and that was without the Thursday night group games and also got to the league cup final but really struggled to even challenge for top 4, it is extremely hard to do both and as much as I want us to go for everything I think getting knocked out of the Europa wouldn't be the end of the world if we aren't going to win it if it means we continue the good league form and get into the top 3 or 4 (I imagine the overreaction on here if we get knocked out of the Europa league early will make it feel like it's the end of the world though! )

Whatever happens the next 3 months are going to be exciting with games coming thick and fast, great time to be a fan, just hope it's a happy time.

I think we are all forgetting that most of the other teams in our league and also the ones in the europa league also blow hot and cold in fact probably more so, we have lost only once in about 20 games so not too bad.
