Hi Ed1, apologies if you have already done this but what are your overall thoughts on United's squad this season? I know we've links to Fabinho and Fonte, I'm not sure if these deals will happen, but do you think we're in a position to challenge for the title this season? Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - with Jose in charge, you are very much in a position to challenge. While you are still (currently) lacking in defence and in the attack, Jose will make sure you are very difficult to beat and keep you picking up points you would otherwise miss out on. I do think Rashford needs to have a good season, as it was clear against Bournemouth that the attack lacks pace and movement.}

Ed do you think Zlatan will be a success or do you think will it end in tears?

Like you the lack of pace going forward really stood out for me last week. I was hoping for Martial through the middle this season but with Zlatan and Wayne I can't see that happening.

{Ed001's Note - it will work often enough to put the team in with a title shout, but it is only a stopgap. It will need to be changed for the long term, but Zlatan is not there for the long term so that doesn't matter.}

MAZE,

We have options to play pace up front but last week Jose picked a team he felt would beat Bournemouth, he said as much with the selection of Mata. We have a manager who will set the team up tactically different depending on the opponent. I imagine we will play with more pace at home, Jose's home record speaks for itself, it is in fact unbelievable if you look at how long he went unbeaten at home.

We have Rashford, Martial and Miki who will provide a lot of pace, so if we want to set up like that then we can, the variety of options we have means with a good manager we should be able to challenge / win most games if he gets it right.

i think Zlatan will be a success but not with Rooney in behind him. its clear to see from the end of last season and the Euros that Rooney is on a rapid decline. I appreciate he played in midfield in that time but its his touch and decision making that has become very poor. We have 2 or 3 better options than him at number 10 hopefully Jose makes that decision sooner than later.

jaime,

This post is definitely not about Rooney, no wonder jred gets so frustrated!

I read the other day the Jose has only lost 9 home games in his ENTIRE career.

Cheers for your opinion Ed, I agree about picking up points we'd have lost out on previously and about wedding more pace up top, hopefully Rashford gets in that team somewhere and Miki as it'll be dynamic with Pogba in the midfield. Ahhh I hope this thread don't turn into Rooney again 🙈.

{Ed001's Note - again? Has there been threads about him then? I must have missed that. I can't remember ever seeing anyone mention his name on here before.....}

Yes Shappy and 5 of them were last season, he had lost 4 in 10 years, like I said, unbelievable figures.

Haha the Rooney saga has frequented these pages once or twice I recall, tbh Ed I sometimes can't keep my opinion about him to myself sometimes either, note to self 'learn to bite tongue' ha. What's your opinion on him Ed? 😂.

{Ed001's Note - I have never heard of him sorry. Is he new?}

18 Aug 2016 13:59:46
So what your saying then GDS is he is washed up, finished at this level? Lost 5 home games in half a season, time to start writing his memoirs. Lol.

18 Aug 2016 14:12:31
I hope he's not new I couldn't stand another decade and a half of debates ha. Now John Rooney there's a player, signed for my beloved Wrexham from Chester, controversial that.

That lack of pace up front scored us 3 goals on Sunday, albeit against Bournemouth. We have pace in abundance coming from the wide areas and some very good finishers up top to put the ball in the net.
Throw Pogba and Miki in the mix and we're laughing.
