I think it's time we stopped over reacting to each defeat and understand we are in the midst of a significant re build.
There is absolutely no point in comparing us to the likes of City, Liverpool or Arsenal.
The fixture list always presented an early examination and even the most optimistic of Utd fans surely couldn't have expected much against Arsenal or City. Let's be honest we've seen mistakes from Maguire and Shaw on countless occasions in the past, we've seen Bruno fail to track runners and the GK make mistakes. These are not new problems and have existed under several different managers and systems.
Did any reasonable Utd fan predict a title challenge this season? Did anyone even predict a top 4 finish? Surely not many, then why do we seemingly always over react to every single defeat, when most have us have already predicted the team is not good enough?
I've taken a more pragmatic approach, I'll keep my eye on 5-7th which will give us European football and try not to overanalyse every performance.
Any improvement this season will sadly not be measured against Arsenal, City or Liverpool but by beating the sides in mid/ bottom of the table and significantly improving our home form. Can we beat Chelsea, who will play champions league football in midfield? We have home advantage and extra time to prepare, we are right to expect a better performance. Then comes Brentford, we have taken their best player and they have lost their manager and then comes Sunderland, a newly promoted team at Old Trafford before the international break. It's these games where the scrutiny must fall. Of course Chelsea is a difficult game but with home advantage and a full week to prepare we should expect a reaction.
In relation to Amorim, I'm not a fan of the 3-4-3 but I accept that's how he plays and my issue lies with those that appointed him. Without European football, all the issues were never likely to be solved in one summer. I don't agree with some of his decisions, I think he can get more out of some of these players but it's hard to change the mentality of the team when you are still using the same players that have failed on countless occasions in the past.
Losing to City is always extremely disappointing but the next three games are much more important in my opinion. Let's see where we are at the next International break.

I expect better than 31 points from 31 games, which is our league record since Amorim took over.

Good post DLIB.

You mean beating teams like Fulham? Which we didn’t.
Barely managed to beat Burnley this season.
And lost to Grimsby with a pretty much full strength team out.
I get your point on games against Arsenal and city. But surely we can all agree that we should be beating Grimsby?
And that’s all before we start looking at last seasons results. RA has managed 31 premier league games and managed just 31 points. He has the team in relegation form. That’s getting close to a full season of league games and he’s still not managed back to back wins. Still not managed to get a positive goal difference. Still not managed to get this system working.
He has managed to put our most threatening attacking threat in Bruno in a position on the pitch where he can’t play and nullified his attacking talent. He’s the most creative number 10 in the league, but RA has decided to play him in centre mid.
When the team is losing and chasing an equaliser (which is in many, many games), the subs made by RA are often to replace defensive players. Make it make sense.
I’d love RA to be a success. But let’s be honest and realistic - he’s not going to be. If after a year of being in charge it’s only got worse, what makes you think it’s suddenly going to get better now?

Losing to City is one thing, but losing to Grimsby, scraping past Burnley, and struggling to beat Fulham are different things.
The stats speak for themselves, I got a bit repetitive recently and want to avoid that, but his obsession with his formation, and his team selections will be his undoing.

I think the manager should be given one more transfer window to build his team. I think the three forwards bought are very good buys. The problem for us them is that they are living on scraps.
On the flanks, Dorgu has plenty of energy but poor delivery. Amad I think is more of a number 10. We need a player such as Conor Bradley bombing up the right flank and delivering crosses. Our midfield is powder puff, lacking in energy, assertiveness and creativity. We need a few bully boys in the team, tenacious and tough midfielders.
Man City just brushed us aside. Defensively, we need a hallion of a centre back. Harry Maguire looked ponderous and sluggish, unable to recover. Shaw looked weak and disinterested. De Ligt and Yoro have good qualities and can improve.

There are very few easy games in the EPL, even for the top teams, which we are not. Liverpool struggled to beat Burnley relying on a last gasp PK. The results thus far have continued in the same pattern as last year. Given the opening schedule it has not been entirely unexpected. The loss against Grimsby was terrible but ultimately came down to Onana's terrible goalkeeping (He'll no doubt be a star in Turkey as no doubt Hojlund in Italy) Nevertheless it's inadequate. Whether it's the system or the players I don't believe the bosses will allow this to go on for much longer.

Liverpool scraped past Burnley and got a goal last min in all their games to win.
That's what champions do. We did that for years when on top.
Liverpool are a kick away from having 4 draws. Fine margins.
But ra is making decisions that are not coming off for him so he needs to try something different. Slight tweaks could bring different results. So his reluctance to try something different other than sub maguire on grates on me and is a flaw in is leadership imo.

And you wonder why he didn't want to join until summer. I'm trying to ignore last season when it comes to stats. But this season hasn't started brilliantly.

I feel sorry for Amorim because the inevitable is coming. He does not know or experienced enough to manage in this league. We have used results, player development, style as benchmarks for every other manager and none have ever had the perfect squad and there is always missing pieces.
The style of football, our results and how so many players look terrible under Amorim is the worst I have witnessed since Fergie. Pease do not tell me we are stylish, we are dog sh. t at both ends of the pitch. Hardly create anyhing and concede like a whore.
If you look at any of the big clubs in europe or pl and make no mistake we are a massive massive club. Even under the guise of a rebuild and squad weaknesses, there is a minimum standard, level of expectation and performance you have to achieve or you get sacked. He is so far below any standard a top club would accept, its a silly to think this is okay and just give it time. At any other top club he would be already sacked imo.
It is inevitable and his own doing but for those of you who think its going to suddenly change, I guess time will tell.
Imo we will keep losing to so many teams with the way he sets us up with a 2 man midfield specially given the type of players we have and he is silly young inexperienced dreamer not to come to terms with that and make adjustments.

Apart from yesterday we have created plenty Ahmad, but the finishing has been poor.
Bruno doesn’t work in a two man midfield, he needs to play higher up the pitch.
The Mbeumo, Mazraoui partnership looked promising, the Dorgu, Amad didn’t.
The front three should be Mbeumo, Sesko and Bruno for the next game with Cas and Mainoo in midfield.
Would start Lemmens as well, see how he gets on.
15 Sep 2025 19:29:07
We have had the most shots but how many clear cut chances have we had? How many decent passes or crosses have there been for Sesko. I wanted Hoijlund to stay because I thought he was a better player than he was allowed to show by the rest of this team. Sesko is in danger of being the same.
Midfield needs a drastic transformation.
We all agree that Amorims system does not work. Danny Murphy is very astute and generally fair in his comments. As he said no team apart from Chelsea in one season has won the league with a system of three at the back. He also said that Utd need to put round pegs in round holes. Said Bruno is not up to tracking back. Basically said Shaw and Maguire need to go and get dominant physical defenders in.
These are all comments so many of us have said for so long
If he can see it, we can see it, why can't the manager?

Scraping past Burnley, the shame! Liverpool needed a last minute penalty against them and they’ve two squads better than ours. We had 9 players from last seasons team which Burnley would have given a run for their money. A large number of fans expect us to be top of the league or as a bare minimum beat last seasons top 6 at a canter anything else is abject failure. Not a great day as the clarets got licked as well and cricket was rained off.
Still the same old players. Didn’t do enough in the summer and we will pay for it all season.

Grim
The results don't lie bud. We are utter sh. t against a decent side. I have never seen a united fan base with such low expectations and losing is becoming the norm.
We have a decent 20 minute spell in a given match and people start thinking its the start of something new. it all wishful thinking imo and I was in that boat for a long time. Reality is we just lose to pretty much anybody.
How can you do the same thing every week and have the appalling results and run we have had and refuse to change something. There is no glory or pride in that but stupidity.
I just don't believe this guy is capable tactically to beat his counterparts in the pl. No idea who comes in next but he is not going to make it.

Let's face it. He escaped from Fawlty Towers one night. Send Manuel back and we can appoint a non pathological buffoon.

Virtually every pundit ex player commentator reporter are all perplexed at this shambles and RA refusing to change, something that only worked for him at one previous club in a low level league… he lost the plot if he even ever had it.
