Everyone's talking about Rashford, and rightly so. But I think another ex-player on the pitch who I think had a good game was Elanga. He got into some really good positions with his pace and put some great balls in. He doesn't suit our current style, but I would take him back in a heartbeat.

With Rashford, I don’t think anyone doubts his talent. The question mark hangs over his willingness to put in the work required to put in performances like that every week. He has done it for spells, but never for a full season. Barcelona play the perfect style for him, so he has no excuses not to succeed there, and I hope he does.

Elanga is a player that I was a bit conflicted by. Although his effort is always good, I felt that he had too many players ahead of him to develop at United. Delighted that he has shown his quality, and Newcastle is a great club for him.

Yes - also Murphy. Howe’s system is solid.

It would work here but inverted. Amad LW, Mbuemo RW.

Rashford is a good player who for a number of years has had attitude issues and not showed anywhere near enough for the wages he was being paid. Improved performance at Barcelona does not change the reasons he has been moved on.
His improvement is important to securing a good sale price for next year which will help with our next phase of incoming players.

Rashford wasn't let go because of his talent, but due to a breakdown in the relationship between him and the club. His attitude became poor and the effort and application from him wasn't anywhere near enough.

There is no one who left over the summer who didn't need to go.

While our team has lacked in ability over the past decade, that wasn't the major issue. The mentality of the players was. Some have had bad attitudes, some have switched off once they joined, and others just had weak mentalities unable to handle the pressure and expectations at a club like ours.

The mentality of the team is the foundations that everything else is built upon. Talent, tactics, style of play, none of that makes a difference if the players don't have the right mentality to buy into it and give it everything they have.

It doesn't matter if a player leaves and smashes it at their next club. In fact I hope they all do, I've no hard feelings. While if they do well when they leave it will only make it easier for us to shift players in the future. I mean if every player we sell is on big wages and they always flop at their next club then why would anyone want to sign players from us?

Sometimes good players move to the wrong club, it's just not a good fit and it makes them and the club look worse than they are. Move onwards and upwards.

When did his attitude become poor?

Rashford was forced out, likely financially motivated but with Amorim pushing. If anything Rashford could be said to have doubts over Amorims approach which so far seem well founded.

Good luck to him.
