Can fellow fans explain the situation with Grimsby town? United said they won't appeal. What effect does and appeal makes, will there be a replay or any chance for United to get back in the cup?

It would feel dirty and unfair if we were let back in. Grimsby won end of. I don’t want to be back in. However, if it was the other way round United would be thrown out I suspect. Was it Barnsley who were thrown out of the cup a couple of years ago?
I think leave as it is because it would be embarrassing to be reinstated, but if the rules say expulsion they should follow them otherwise it is open to choice on who the club is, an emotive choice. The authorities would be creating a level of ineligible player, 2 minutes or is 5 mins late deserving of expulsion? How about a couple of hours? I hope the rules allow a fine in this case.

They've been fined £10k, No replay (good, justice is done) . We all move on. The End.

They were actually fined £20k, with £10k of that suspended until the end of the season.

Precedent had already been set with other clubs like Liverpool only being fined for fielding an ineligible player.
The histrionics that would happen from Grimsby being thrown out over a clerical error is just not worth it. Good luck to them, I hope they do well in the rest of the tournament.

The ineligible player had his penalty in the shoot out saved by Onana. Surely that is an embarrassing enough punishment? ?.
