Any substance in the latest Ajax player to be linked to us, Kenneth Taylor ed? I've not seen anything of him but seems to be highly rated, both footed midfielder (although you'd expect that these days given salaries paid out to professionals) .

Supasub

{Ed002's Note - Kenneth Taylor (DM) will attract a lot of scouts during the season and efforts will be made for next summer. Ajax will resist.}

1.) 28 Sep 2022 15:04:55
He looks like a fine player supa and getting great reviews.
I think ajax will resist any more requests from us unless they need to build another new stadium?.

2.) 28 Sep 2022 15:18:56
Ken, fancy seeing your name sake in a United shirt?.

3.) 28 Sep 2022 20:50:09
On a serious note he does look a like great young player.

I think he'd do well to have another year or even two at Ajax to really establish himself.

Maybe we could swoop in for him in two years time when Casemiro is 32 going on 33 and will likely need someone to rotate/ replace him.

4.) 29 Sep 2022 09:35:45
On a side note, do you feel English (based) youngsters are at a disadvantage playing for Premier league clubs, given to the sheer quality and physicality of the league?
It seems like sides in other top flight leagues, such as Ajax or Dortmund et al, can bring through their top youth prospects pretty quickly and seamlessly, whereas over here you might get a fleeting glimpse of a player on the bench every now and then before they're sent out on loan a year later. probably to return and more often than not fail to cut the mustard at the very top.
Something in it, or do Utd in particular just have an underwhelming crop at the moment. Malacia is the only youth in recent years to make a great impression and he's not even Utd bred. I know there are a tonne out on loan but I would be surprised if more than one or two ever make it at Utd. Of all the thousands of youths players Utd churn through through their various academies and channels the success rate is abysmal.

{Ed002's Note - It depends on the club and the number of decent quality youngsters they have produced. If you look at Chelsea thay have produced a lot of youngsters that have moved on due to the club deciding they won't make it or opportunities being better elsewhere (for example Tomori, Olise, Musiala, Abrahams, Livramento, Brewster, Ake, Guehi, Rice and Lamptey) whilst some have stayed and become regulars in the first team or are on loan (e.g. Christensen, James, Mount, Loftus Cheek, Colwill, Broja, Gallagher, Hudson Odoi etc.). So opportunity is there but there needs to be a plan for each player - a roadmap to move forward.}

5.) 29 Sep 2022 13:05:35
Great reply Ed, true Chelsea do seem to have a better success rate. You could compare the likes of Mount and Garner as two players whho weren't deemed ready and made great impacts in a lower division, but whereas one was given his chance and has cemented a first team berth Garner wasn't given a chance upon his return. Granted Chelsea's midfield was in a better place.

6.) 30 Sep 2022 07:15:52
Thank you ed002. Highly appreciated.

31 May 2021 16:46:35
Question for Ed 002, I know your akways busy, but when you have time, reading between the lines of a comment you made the other day about Raphina and enquiring about one of his agents other players. Would that player we enquired about be Edmond Tapsoba?

Supasub

{Ed002's Note - No, not Tapsoba.}

1.) 01 Jun 2021 06:41:10
Didnt know Deco had become and agent.

2.) 01 Jun 2021 22:00:17
How about a game of Hangman Ed so we can guess which other player we enquired about? Or is it unimportant?

{Ed002's Note - It is unimportant.}

31 Jan 2021 14:01:02
Just like to say that we seem to lack any composure, patience and shape when we move forward when attacking during a match when needing to take the lead. Counter attacking is fine when you are winning games but teams like Liverpool and Man City gradually move up the pitch when they are searching for the 1st goal, they then move forward a lot quicker/ long ball when they counter. We just seem unable to pin teams back and just try and get the ball forward as quick as possibly generally resulting in lack of options and giving the ball away cheaply. That is down to the coaching and game management.

Supasub

1.) 31 Jan 2021 15:07:41
Agree, we lack proper structure going forward.
There seems to be a lack of direction how the moves needs to be constructed.

2.) 31 Jan 2021 23:28:59
I think team is progressing well. Really like the way we are playing. Unfortunately Rashford and Martial are so inconsistent. Once we get right wing sorted and get Rashford playing from the left then we will start winning things.

3.) 01 Feb 2021 07:19:30
Jgb19031976 really? I guess a lot of people just have this idea that sorting out the right wing is going to help this team go and win things. Well it would certainly help balance the squad but we need more than just the right players.

Unless the manager is capable of utilizing and bringing the best out of the players available to him and brings in a more progressive approach to his tactics and the style of play the team is going to go through phases of both good and bad performances and ultimately not win anything.

4.) 01 Feb 2021 19:26:22
The problem is that Rashford was looking more and more like a top class LW around Oct/ Nov/ Dec, then we moved him to RW to accommodate Pogba.

Every man, woman and child knows that our best side is EITHER Fred/ McTom alongside Pogba in the middle, with Rashford left, Greenwood right and Bruno playing off of Cavani, yet for some reason we now play Rashford on the right, where he looks like a poor man’s Nani.

5.) 03 Feb 2021 00:51:23
This aged well.

6.) 03 Feb 2021 10:01:10
Burnley,

We just don’t attack enough and never score haha.

7.) 03 Feb 2021 18:10:10
Well what can I say, I rest my case, albeit aided by an early sending off we actually pinned a team back and sometimes went back to go forward, and look what happens. We will see if they can continue and impose more in future games when needing to take the lead.

01 Jan 2018 11:49:15
Happy New year to all eds and posters old and new. Any chance of a inkling of a surprise transfer to us this January Ed002? Something to warm the cockles of my heart this grey Dorset day as I'm covering my wife's charming cafe having avoided any alcohol for the last few months including last night. I am plying myself with high grade caffeine this morning accompanied with a smorgasbord of green teas and a bacon sandwich.

Supasub

{Ed002's Note - Joao Mario will maybe emerge as a favoutite for midfield.}

1.) 01 Jan 2018 12:55:11
Are we targeting only one midfielder or two ed? . By us going after Mario means the end for milinkovic Savic and Soler or are these two transfers unrelated? .

{Ed002's Note - Why do you have to try and complicate everything?}

2.) 01 Jan 2018 13:52:46
Cheers Ed002 and a Happy New Year to you!

3.) 01 Jan 2018 13:51:06
Brilliant, thank you Ed002, cheered me up after enduring a shopping trip to the sales with the missus (part of the bargain reached to baggsie the big TV for Everton match later)

Does anyone have any info or opinions about Mario, apart from his penchant for Italian food? )

4.) 01 Jan 2018 14:02:09
I'll take Joao Mario. Think he a decent player who will fit well into the team. Will it be a loan with a view to buy or a transfer?

5.) 01 Jan 2018 16:01:45
No worries Ed. Happy new yr to everyone.

6.) 02 Jan 2018 11:41:58
Paper talk for me on Mario definitely can see Jose trying for Savic tho.

12 May 2017 20:40:36
Rumours that Renato Sanches is unsettled / Maybe available for transfer. Sorry ed not listened to sharkopod yet but wondered if a move was possible this summer or any inkling that this might be the case and that Bayern would let him leave for similar money in return?

Supasub

{Ed002's Note - He has been a disaster and if they could mug some club in to buying him they would - they are trying to get a replacement in. The player has not coped with the cultural change at all - Manchester United got lucky last year.}

1.) 13 May 2017 07:12:27
He's a 19 year old boy. Hopefully he will grow up to become the player he looks like he can be.

2.) 13 May 2017 08:56:40
Is he one of those players who are unwilling to adapt to a new country or is he homesick and will only ever be successful on the Iberian peninsula?

{Ed002's Note - It is not that he is unwilling it is that it can be very difficult to adapt where everything is cuturally different, where the language is a problem, where the food is different, where the weather is poor etc..}

3.) 13 May 2017 13:54:34
Never thought that joining Bayern was the best move for him, not surprised at all it hasn't worked out. Hopefully he get's back on track soon though, think he has great potential.

4.) 13 May 2017 14:32:19
I'd be delighted to have him. So dynamic, would compliment Pogba very well I think.

5.) 13 May 2017 15:04:24
Have you watched him this season fresh. He had a very good euros, was decent in the Portuguese league. Beyond that, he leaves a lot to be desired.

I'd rather a more experienced player with pedigree than sanches.

6.) 13 May 2017 16:00:44
He has so much potential but he just wasn't ready for such a high profile move. Probably lacks a bit of maturity. I watched a game on telly that he came on in, he looked lost. You're right ed, United definitely dodged a bullet there.
Hopefully he can get some good advice and make his next move right for him and realise his potential.

7.) 13 May 2017 16:56:19
25 games for a 19 year old at Bayern in his first season in a new country seems ok to me hope he is surplus and we take him cause the boy is a top talent but got to feeling he is playing understudy for next season its the Bayern way to ease talent in and let them grow. personaly i would like Nianggolon for midfield and if James Rodriguez is available him to. And Beloti looks perfect for the prem hope he on the radar but I know Jose will improve us dramatically no matter who the targets are, we have bags of cash and some big profile players leaving can't wait for the summer transfer window.

8.) 13 May 2017 18:52:17
I think he worth a chance for a reasonable fee, I wouldn't go over 25 million though, feel like Mourinho would look after him.

9.) 14 May 2017 08:23:41
Good point Shane - maybe the Portuguese connection would make him feel happier (though can't do anything about the rain! )

You'd think BM would've done more to help him settle in though, such as placing him with a Portuguese family/ privibding extra lessons at college. Maybe that's not how it works and I'm being naive - can't be easy for a young lad to adapt to a whole new situation, where everything would seem foreign.

10.) 14 May 2017 08:52:16
If he has struggled with language, food and weather then he will struggle just as much here so it probably wouldn't make sense spending big money on him right now. He may become great, he may not.

When are Vidal, Strootman Milinković-Savić and Huntelaar signing?

Supasub

1.) 03 Jun 2025 21:26:51
You forgot Schneijder and Gaitan.

2.) 03 Jun 2025 22:13:07
To be fair Supasub we might actually sign Milinkovic-Savic this summer.

Although it'll be his younger brother Vanja who plays in goal rather than Sergej whose now in Saudi that we sign.

26 May 2025 11:20:37
Rogers actually kicks through Bayındır's hand which is a "foul". All the emphasis is on whether Bayındır had control of the ball at the time which is irrelevant if Roger's has kicked through the keeper's hand to get to the ball.
It was technically a foul. Let's move on as we've had plenty go against us this season but this seems to have dominated the whole weekend as it appears to have gone in our favour. No other club gets the same scrutiny on decisions. Should have been about 6/ 7 to nil anyway but for inept finishing.

Supasub

{Ed025's Note - take the red specs off Supasub, Bayindir never had control of the ball because his hands were not in contact with the ball mate, Rodgers had every right to go for that and it was a very poor decision by the ref, you did deserve to win of course but lets not just make things up..

1.) 26 May 2025 12:09:20
A goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball with the hand (s) when: the ball is between the hands or between the hand and any surface (e. g. ground, own body) or by touching it with any part of the hands or arms except if the ball rebounds from the goalkeeper or the goalkeeper has made a save.

It was between both hands and the floor. I agree he wasn't in full control and striker should get the backing but you can understand why the ref blew.

2.) 26 May 2025 12:17:49
You can certainly understand why they were and are annoyed, it’s huge ramifications because a poor decision, and in this day and age that should not happen……. We would be fuming if that had happened and we missed out on qualification, so every reason the moaning is justified, why does everyone just think with the red specs on, it’s a poor decision whatever way you look at it, unless through red specs of course.

{Ed025's Note - im with you GSC, and them not qualifying for the CL has cost them £100m it seems...ouch..

3.) 26 May 2025 12:33:42
Yeah but maybe villa should worry more about their goalkeepers shoulder charge and they quickly forget how they benfitted from faulty goal line technology to keep them from relegation.

4.) 26 May 2025 12:34:52
It should not happen in 2025 no way…… and can’t be allowed to happen again, but probably will in one scenario or another, but to suggest blown out of proportion because United is ridiculous there would be and should be the same outcry whatever teams on the pitch, that’s an 100 million pound mistake, that’s scandalous, ok we won’t know if it would have changed the result, but that’s not important.

5.) 26 May 2025 12:39:32
Yes ed. Didn't say Togers didn't have a right to go for it. He plays the hand 1st (kicking though the keepers hand) . That us a foul and I can see why a foul was given. Same reason you can't impede a keepers hand if he's going up to catch/ claim a ball for a corner. Even though we've had one of those given against us, Arsenal game?

6.) 26 May 2025 12:48:40
Yeah it was a good goal.

But I don't think it cost them the game, they had been quite rubbish and I think we would have scored.

7.) 26 May 2025 13:01:31
I know your probably desperate for a negative result German but the law say (make of it what you will) :
A goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball with the hand (s) when:

the ball is between the hands or between the hand and any surface (e. g. ground, own body) or by touching it with any part of the hands or arms except if the ball rebounds from the goalkeeper or the goalkeeper has made a save

holding the ball in the outstretched open hand

bouncing it on the ground or throwing it in the air

A goalkeeper cannot be challenged by an opponent when in control of the ball with the hand (s) .

According to that the keeper always had control of the ball. And if Roger's didn't kick through the keepers hand he definately steps on his hand 1st which is a foul. Am I the only insane person who thinks that this call may have been right anyway? I can see how this was given but youve now got pundits and media giving their opinion without checking the laws. Cost them £100 million? Ifs and maybes. The fact their keeper was rightly sent off, Villa were awful and mustered about 1 shot on goal. I beg to differ.

8.) 26 May 2025 13:12:47
It was one of those decisions that is in the grey area.

The FA don't make life easy for Ref's when they write rules that are subjective and open to interpretation. How a Ref is supposed to remember all the fine details of every rule of the game and make a decision in the space of a few seconds with often a less than perfect view of the incident (certainly not as good as we get on TV), it is understandable that they will make mistakes and their decisions which are subjective are then equally open to discussion.

Was he fully in control of the ball? No.

Does he have to be fully in control of the ball for it to be a foul? Also no.

Was he in enough control of it for it to be deemed a foul? That's open to opinion.

While the suggestion that Rogers first made contact with Bayindir's hand rather than the ball making that a foul is also hard to ascertain even with video footage. And utterly impossible for the Ref to see in real time.

I have a lot of sympathy for the Ref in this situation as he's being hung out to dry and I don't think he's entirely at fault in this situation. The only thing he could and maybe should have done differently is wait a few more seconds before blowing his whistle. That time would have allowed Rogers to round the keeper and potentially score, at which point VAR could review it and decide whether it should count or not.

Of course there is no guarantee that had the Ref not blown the whistle that Rogers would have scored. There was a covering defender who could have cleared off the line, he could have missed or had a bad touch.

The way the media has kicked up a stink you'd think that a perfectly legitimate goal had been knocked off. At best Villa were denied a goal scoring chance.

I'm sure if you reviewed every single decision in every single match then you'll find dozens of times where every single club in the league have both benefited from and suffered from poor/ wrong refereeing decisions.

For the most part it balances itself out across the season.

9.) 26 May 2025 13:24:31
It's balanced out anyway, why should we be the only team that a Man Utd goalkeeper stopped us making the Champions League and an extra £100m, nice see Bayndir at least doing it to an opposing team and not our own.

10.) 26 May 2025 16:50:32
As someone said on another site. They were still in Europe after the decision ( they happen nearly every other game) the fact they went down to 10 men shyte the bed and let two goals in had nothing to do with the ref. Deflection of the highest order. Not one mention of the fact we played well.
Promising game really looking forward to next season.

Paul Merson, another pundit (along with the rest) who mystifies me as to how he has a job.

Supasub

{Ed025's Note - it keeps him out the pub mate..

1.) 26 Feb 2025 17:01:24
He would probably make more sense if he was in the pub all day.

Not that I want him to go back to being in the pub, as in fairness he has dealt pretty well with his problems.

The reason he, and others like him, who talk absolute crap keep their job's is precisely that. It's because they talk crap that they get the attention and thus the clicks or the audiences on TV.

If you talk sense you are thought of as being boring and thus not what the media, tv or whomever want.

So there you are, talk pure crap and total nonsense and make a fortune. To think we have some on here who do it for free!

{Ed025's Note - me for one mate.. :)

2.) 26 Feb 2025 17:38:13
Terrible pundit, but he couldn't half play a bit.

3.) 26 Feb 2025 19:04:45
Surely a few across the media should be a little more educational towards people and the younger ones when it comes to management and tactics?
I barely listen to any of them and it's no wonder the game is viewed like it is. None of them seem to have any depth to their opinions.
An agent and ex player I know used to say that most people who play at a decent level and are used to following the game (but not just the PL) know more about the game and different players than most of the ex player pundits.
I bet half of them don't even watch any games outside ones they commentate on (I'm not convinced they pay much attention on ones they are commentating on for that matter), surely we can do a lot better in this country. I include ex united players too.
I sometimes find myself agreeing with Rio as he will elaborate on his opinion but then he just gets stick if it doesn't follow any trend.

4.) 27 Feb 2025 07:47:11
What does my head in is when they trot out the lazy tropes that just aren't true.

Like describing Pogba as world class or Rashford as a deadly free kick taker.

07 Feb 2025 16:46:20
Is it me or does Rashford look like he's just got up or he's under the influence for his official Villa pic.

Supasub

1.) 07 Feb 2025 20:06:19
Looks fine to me.

2.) 07 Feb 2025 22:42:08
He definitely doesn't look his sharpest. But we've been saying that on the pitch for a while now.

I hope it isn't anything like the rumours that have been going round.

3.) 08 Feb 2025 05:50:19
We won but were pretty bad. Got away with an offside goal but have had our share of very bad calls against us all year so i could care less. On this form we will get dragged into relegation fight if one of the bottom 3 start picking up points.

You can throw mud at me for saying this and try and turn it into eth convo which is not. This is by far the worst we have been no comparison and unacceptable. RA needs to look himself in the mirror and put his ego aside and start with some normal formations and playing players in positions and to their strengths. We had no shots on target in the first half against a relegation team that supposedly rested some players.

We were better second half because garna made all the difference, we went long diagonal/ over the top and stretched the pitch. same thing a few games ago. Liverpool seem to be masters of the long diagonal/ over the top to salah and diaz and don't seem to be doing too bad.

Kobe is not a 10 and playing him there and yanking him is not good for the kid. He is destroying the confidence of a lot of players continuing like this. I am fed up. There is zero style or identity in what I am seeing but disjointed, ugly, slow, toothless football.

The honeymoon is over as Espn and other pundits are now starting to question his credibility. He is creating a rod for his own back continuing with this nonsense and the results will add fuel to the fire. Only saving grace is the bottom 3 are so bad and lacking points that 36/ 37 points probably makes it safe. Its a sad state of affairs.

we have

Spurs away
Everton away
Ipswich home
Arsenal home
Leicester away
Forrest away
City at home
Newcastle away
Wolves home
Bournemouth away
Brentford away
Westham home
Chelsea away
Villa home.

4.) 08 Feb 2025 14:09:00
Your tired of the football we are tired of your moaning about RA and you knowing best we all get you had a love in with ETH but the football was just as bad under him, in fact probably worse to watch but managed to pick up some points, but remember he had been here nearly 3 years and spent 500 million, RA been here 3 months spent 30 million…. and your fed up.

5.) 08 Feb 2025 16:34:21
I have a stalker lol.

6.) 09 Feb 2025 08:15:23
What did you make of the football in SAF first three years Ahmad?
I stuck with him because of what he did at Aberdeen and was told what he was trying to do.
RA has done miracles at Lisbon, he is telling the truth about the issues we have, dealing with malcontents, showing leadership and has a style that he wants to play.
I know you wanted ETH to stay, but he should have gone the day after the cup final.

20 Jan 2025 17:20:36
Dorgu looks strong and quick, hopefully we are looking at taller more physical quick players.
I think it's clear it's a must now for the Premier League now and we are looking lightweight with too many short players.
it's not such a problem in wide area's (as long as they are quick, is Garnacho that quick? ) but in the spine of the team and the front 2/ 3 it is a problem.
If you start with an 11 of Martinez, Mainoo, Garnacho and Amad you will have problems without having more physicality in the team. Goes to show the recruitment again has not been suited to the needs of the squad imo.

Supasub

1.) 20 Jan 2025 20:19:32
Supa we genuinely lack speed and stamina in nearly every position.
For several years now we Kim less fit and slower than nearly every team in the league.
I also agree with the height issue and physical strength.
So slow and so unfit.

2.) 20 Jan 2025 21:33:44
The little I've seen of Dorgu he looks a real athlete, strong and quick. He is also very offensive for a fullback making him an ideal option at wingback.

Young though and will need time to adjust and develop.

Surely you need players to provide the service regardless of who the centre forward is? It's not like Hojland gets a lot of service/ opportunities which is part of his/ our problem.
We could have Eusebio up front at the moment and he isn't going to get many.

German "RA don't even fancy him"? But starts him in big games? When did you last speak to RA for his opinion? Ugarte can pass, players can have poor games in possession and that's why sometimes they get subbed off. De Ligt would have started if he were fit. He puts his body on the line for the team. He just needs rhythm, your more likely to get injured when you've just come back from an injury. It's conditioning. I'm convinced you are just a troll or you actually just support somone else and you've got too much time on your hands.
