Ed, just wondering what midfielders we are looking at/ interested in for the summer? Thanks in advance.
{Ed002's Note - Certainly a DM player to replace Casemiro and a CM/DM player as a full time replacement for Amrabat - but much could change from the names previously provided with a change of staff.}
1.) 05 Feb 2024 09:49:05
Ed, do you know if there is much truth in the rumour about Morten Hjulmand from Sporting Lisbon?
{Ed002's Note - Morten Hjulmand (DM/CM) Arrived from Lecce in the summer of 2023 - not available unless an offer that meets his huge release clause is made - and even then the player may not be interested in a move so soon after joinung. Arsenal are looking at Elneny and Jorginho leaving as Free Agents in the summer and have sent scouts. He is also seen as an option for Manchester United but currently not first choice.}
2.) 05 Feb 2024 12:10:06
Joao Palhinha hopefully one we are looking at.
3.) 05 Feb 2024 14:40:29
Palhinha too old for the fee we need to look at younger players and build a team.
Shame Vermeeren went to atletico would have been a good addition.
4.) 06 Feb 2024 07:57:08
Yes at the grand old age of 28 he should consider retirement.
5.) 07 Feb 2024 13:00:06
DSG, 28 for a footballer is obviously not old. Yet if we are honest we need 2-3 seasons to rebuild our squad before we are truly able to compete at the highest level.
At which point Palhinha will be the same age Casemiro is now, the player he would be replacing.
We need to think longer term than the next 2-3 years. We need players who'll be entering their peak in 2-3 years, if we want to have a team ready to compete at that time.
I like Palhinha as a player, but I don't think he's an elite level player. Great work rate and does a lot of really good work defensively/ off the ball. But he does lack in dynamism, pace and his passing is too limited (safe) . I don't think he's rounded enough to be a regular at a top club challenging for major honours. He'd be great for a Europa League level, or a UCL club that aren't expected to make the knockout rounds regularly. But for those side expecting to win league titles and challenge for the UCL every year he'd be a squad player. We need to move away from signing players with limited potential for quick fixes.

Hi Ed, just wondering if you could clarify something for me. We keep getting linked with Sesko, as one of our ST options for the summer. As we know, he's moving to Leipzig then, having agreed it during last summer. So this doesn't seem likely, but just wanted to know your thoughts. Thanks.
{Ed002's Note - Benjamin Sesko (S/F) signed a new long-term contract at RBS but that has not stopped his representatives from touting him around and agreement has been reached for him to join RBL in the summer of 2023. He has been seen by numerous scouts as RBS matches are well attended with other players being watched. Described by a well known Portuguese ex-Premier League player and scout as "raw but improving". Was the list for Spurs as a potential Kane replacement and Newcastle enquired. Chelsea spoke with his agent and RBS but opted for another player to join this coming summer. Manchester United also spoke with the club.}
27 Jan 2022 13:09:11
Ed, do you reckon we are in for any surprise incomings before the window shuts? Does seem unlikely at this stage and that things will be addressed in the summer, but thought I'd enquire anyway. Thanks in advance.
{Ed002's Note - Absolutely yes Elvis.}
1.) 27 Jan 2022 13:32:24
Fantastic response. Ed002 holds our breath ?
Haidaras Mali lost yesterday, then a suprise player upfront like Diaz or who knows. We can dream.
2.) 27 Jan 2022 13:54:06
May be if Messi is unsettled in Paris, we get him.
3.) 27 Jan 2022 14:09:11
Amad and Martial are already gone and it looks like Donny will be going too with Lingard potentially another who will depart.
None of those have had a huge amount of minutes this season but losing 4 squad players in the space of a few days is unusual at United. Maybe Rangnick has a lot of faith in Hannibal and some of the other youngsters to step in if needed or maybe we're getting a shiny new signing?
4.) 27 Jan 2022 15:32:10
How can Ralph loose faith in Hannibal, he's not seen anything of him since he came to the club.
5.) 27 Jan 2022 15:51:06
sim01975 you did not understand what Rjmanutd said.
6.) 27 Jan 2022 17:14:33
Unruly - please explain?
7.) 27 Jan 2022 18:16:49
He said has A LOT of faith in Hannibal
Not lost faith.
8.) 27 Jan 2022 18:18:47
Simo read his post again.
Clue
You are adding an s in the word lot.
??.
9.) 27 Jan 2022 20:16:35
Rj amad was never a squad player if it wasnt for his injury in the summer he was off om loan.
Good for him to go to rangers, 19 and will get a good experience in scotland.
10.) 28 Jan 2022 23:27:50
It will toughen him up that's for sure bolger.
I know the depth in the league is poor but I often wonder why given our good relations with both clubs that we don't blood more of our highly rated players through them every couple of seasons. If they are good enough they will get good exposure and game time.
12 Oct 2020 13:56:47
Hi Ed, hope everyone is well. Now the dust has settled, is there any chance Ed you could give us a summary of any players we are targeting for the January window? Completely understand if not, but thanks anyway.
{Ed002's Note - Manchester United have agreed to complete the transfer of Amad Traore by December 31 to allow him to move in January subject to a Work Permit etc.. However, Manchester United would have been aware of an issue that blocked the sale of his brother Hamed Treore from Empoli to another English side earlier in the summer that resulted in the extention of his loan at Empoli with an obligation to buy included. It relates to the players arriving in Italy with false paperwork and that means they could potentially be in the country illegally. So there might be another hurdle to deal with.
Aside from that, clubs don't usually plan for January transfers and I am not aware of anything that the club may wish to do.}
1.) 12 Oct 2020 15:34:21
The January window tend to be used by those who have maybe changed manager, or to offload a few players who aren't playing. In general players who are playing well prefer not to move in January, especially ahead of the summer international tournament as if they have a drop in form that could cost them a place in their national side.
I very much expect Amad Traore to be our only "signing" of January. With maybe 1 or 2 players departing either on loan or permanently.
2.) 14 Oct 2020 09:29:12
You may have changed manager by then though, Shappy?
3.) 14 Oct 2020 10:21:34
Silvered, we may well have done. But I still don't see the club spending in January unless someone like Sancho or Upamecano becomes available. It would need to be a either a long term target or a top level player available for a bargain. I can't see either happening.
Good players don't tend to move in the January when there is an international tournament in the summer. The risk of not settling, or not getting games and thus missing out on going to a tournament with their national side is too great.
If we change manager I expect it'll either happen mid December or early January, otherwise we won't change manager until the end of the season. Either way the club are unlikely to sanction spending during a financial crisis for a manager who will likely have had no more than a few weeks with his players.
In the past 30 years we have only made 12 January signings, of which only Evra, Vidic and Bruno can be considered successes. While Saha had he avoided injury probably would have been as well. It's a pretty terrible success rate.
Whether Ole keeps his job or we have a new manager, I highly doubt the club will make any January signings.
4.) 14 Oct 2020 12:29:37
The club didn't even spend money the last time Sancho and Upamecano were available😃😃.
11 Jun 2020 18:02:13
Hi Ed and everyone else, hope you're all doing well and staying safe. Ed, seen a few rumours pop up about Ansu Fati being linked with us, just wondering if you've heard anything? Couldn't imagine him leaving Barcelona anytime soon surely, even with all their issues. Thanks.
{Ed002's Note - Ansu Fati (LW) PSG would be open to including Ansu Fati in any deal for Neymar - they are less keen on the players Barcelona want to offer but Barcelona has said he is not for sale.}
1.) 11 Jun 2020 22:11:11
Not surprised by that one bit. He’s got the tools to go far.
2.) 11 Jun 2020 22:53:16
He looks a real talent pete.
3.) 12 Jun 2020 22:36:56
Not many people will want to have FATI on the back of their strip lol ðŸ˜.

Hi Ed. Despite all the constant links, is there anyone random, who we haven't been linked to, that we should be keeping an eye on? Wouldn't surprise me if we sign someone completely out the blue and you know better than most. Thanks.
1.) 17 Jun 2022 14:04:22
Harold Winks.
2.) 17 Jun 2022 15:23:16
Out of the blue suede shoes.
3.) 17 Jun 2022 21:13:18
Gaitan and Sneijder.
23 Apr 2022 14:49:37
I think today is more frustrating because we had the chances to win.
But I'm calling it now, we won't win a game again this season.
1.) 23 Apr 2022 14:54:48
I thought both teams were as bad as each other defensively. I think Spurs will make 4th and we'll be lucky to finish 6th.
2.) 23 Apr 2022 15:03:15
Unlucky to finish 6th.
3.) 23 Apr 2022 16:13:04
Strong possibility Elvis, that would make it our worst season since 88/ 89. Happily we won the league 3 years after that shocker of a season.
4.) 23 Apr 2022 16:27:54
Elvis I think united have left the building.
5.) 23 Apr 2022 17:13:53
I hope we keep losing but we will prob get that conference comp and that will put the cherry on top of a very embarrasing season.
6.) 23 Apr 2022 17:13:53
I hope we keep losing but we will prob get that conference comp and that will put the cherry on top of a very embarrasing season.
26 Feb 2022 17:43:23
Season's a write off. Don't worry yourselves too much between now and the end of the season. Let's just hope we can go into the next one with better foundations. Bring more of the youth through and stop being so loyal to players who aren't going to be here next year. Get some signings ready and obviously the manager, early as possible. Hate wasting a season, but it was done months ago.
1.) 26 Feb 2022 17:53:48
I mean it was fairly obvious that the season was a write off when it became clear Ole needed sacking and the best we could do was hire an interim manager to tread water and get us to the end of the season.
2.) 26 Feb 2022 18:01:20
Elvis
The season isn’t done yet.
However, like some of us said the season was not going to be good when we retained the manager at the start of it, then failed to deal with him until far too late. We signed the wrong players yet again with no plan.
The only thing is enjoy the Champions League ride, let’s hope they listen to RR and restructure, give young players time and rebuild.
3.) 26 Feb 2022 18:33:34
I feel at odds with us getting into the Champions League. We’re clearly a good Europa league side and have a chance of winning that trophy. Can’t say the same for CL.
4.) 26 Feb 2022 19:17:39
Fight all season to get champions league football only for us to know that we definitely won't win it anyway, what's the point? No title challenge, pure rubbish standards fighting for 4th. Hope the chancers leave if we don't make the CL next season.
25 Sep 2021 15:00:47
I wrote a post after the Young Boys defeat, saying if nothing changed Ole can go. 3 games on and I think it's safe to say, that these first few fixtures are a decent representation of how our season is going to be.
It doesn't matter who we sign or who we play, it is literally hope for the best, no tactics, no plan b. I could go on, but we all see it and rival fans are buzzing we have Ole in charge.
We can do a lot better than this and should be, no excuse will mask it. So who would sort us out that is realistic? I'm not sure Conte is the answer, maybe Zidane?
1.) 25 Sep 2021 15:13:55
Elvis, I think our fixture list up until we played Liverpool was kind. We talked about getting some momentum and starting strong before our tough run of fixtures soon. We had a decent draw in the Champions league too.
We're now dropping points against teams we should be looking to beat, are knocked out of a winnable competition and a loss in the champions league.
Ole has a habit of going a terrible runs, hopefully he won't survive this one.
2.) 25 Sep 2021 15:38:21
He also has a habit of pulling out of terrible runs and going on a long winning streak.
I can't see the club sacking him before Christmas unless things get dire. Sometimes the timing of your good or bad runs can be more decisive than the actual runs themselves.
3.) 25 Sep 2021 15:51:18
You're right there Shappy. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if we went on and won the next 8 games. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if we capitulate and fall apart over the next 8 games.
Signs of an inconsistent manager not cut out for elite football.
4.) 25 Sep 2021 17:05:35
Have to agree with Mumbles there, you just don't know what you will get from one week to another.
15 Sep 2021 16:31:51
If we see much more of that like last night, then Ole can go. I'm not Ole in or out, I support the club, I'm not that fussed about individuals as I used to be. But it showed nothing has really been learnt by the coaching staff. No plan B whatsoever and second half looked like we had no tactics or formation. We've seen this over the last few years, from one extreme to the other, which is never a stable foundation for any team. I want us to be successful regardless, but our style of play so far this season, is the exact same, individual brilliance, or moments where we blow teams away. We have the best squad since Fergie, I think we should expect better game management and overall play. Frustrating to say the least and last night was genuinely embarrassing.
1.) 15 Sep 2021 16:48:24
All that's happening is he is putting 11 expensive players on the pitch and saying get on with it. We didn't create anyting until the goal, we couldn't string 5 passes together and as we ve seen all season even before the sending off you can just run through our midfield .
Sancho isn't taking players on, but let's eee how he settles in.
AWB s first touch has always been poor, just like Freds so I think its too late for either of them to improve on that front
Plenty of time to put it right but also as we've seen before plenty of time for us to make a pigs ear of getting out of the group.
2.) 15 Sep 2021 21:20:19
Worryingly when we lose we often struggle to get out of the rut and lose a few in a row, Sunday will tell us a lot, we need to react. Last night was awful, subs were terrible in the 2nd half and it showed he’s not learnt lessons which is worrying.
3.) 15 Sep 2021 21:55:14
I agree. We need a reaction on the weekend. I have a feeling we will get it.
4.) 16 Sep 2021 02:50:07
I have no confidence that we will do any better in the upcoming matches. In my opinion we will only get 10 points out of the next available 30 in the league and with tough champions league matches in between (regardless of what people may think. Atalanta and Villarreal are no pushovers) how Ole sets up and uses this squad could make or break our season.
5.) 16 Sep 2021 06:36:49
If Atalanta and Villarreal play the high press game against us, then we could be in trouble. The matches between now and the international break could define our season.
6.) 16 Sep 2021 06:58:09
Merson was right, “Manchester United couldn’t get out of their half. If that was Manchester City with ten men, Young Boys wouldn’t have touched the ball, ”.
7.) 16 Sep 2021 10:24:42
Managers fault he will continue to take us backwards until he is fired.
05 Dec 2024 23:19:14
You do realise, that he got most of his info from Ed. Now that he has passed, James doesn't seem to know much, hence why his content has changed a lot. No shade, but it's obvious to how it used to be. Ed was the true goat and such a shock when I read the news on here. Will never be the same, that guy had amazing knowledge and contacts.
29 Oct 2024 14:14:34
Quenda is someone who we hopefully look at too.
01 Jul 2024 19:52:20
Thanks Ed, yer I think so too. Still not certain we will definitely sign him but he is a top prospect for sure.
{Ed025's Note - yeah Elvis, that SJR needs to put his hand in his pocket mate and start spending, its not as if hes spending it on hairdressing or anything is it.. :)
01 Jul 2024 09:52:33
Ed25, correct me if I am wrong but you support Everton? If so can you tell me if he is predominantly left footed or not? Obvs if we got him he'd play next to Licha, so would be on the right hand side and I've seen JB say himself he is both, but just wondering what your thoughts were. Thanks.
{Ed025's Note - hes left footed Elvis, i do support Everton mate and thats why i can tell you you would be getting an excellent young player if you did sign Jarrad, him and Martinez both being lefties would not be a problem though imo because they are both decent with their right foot as well..
29 Dec 2022 13:20:00
Ed, is there anyone else you've heard recently that we may be looking at? Seems we don't have many options.
{Ed002's Note - I have said before there are a few options, but most clubs will not want disruption in the Winter.}
24 Aug 2024 16:23:07
Is there anyone we would potentially look to Ed? I don't think we can rely on Rashford/ Sancho/ Antony, so that only leaves Garna and Amad. If any of them are sold, we would need one for sure.
{Ed002's Note - possibly but it needs a departure.}
19 Apr 2024 12:19:16
Kind of reminds me a bit of Ander Herrera from when I've watched him. Pretty physical for a small guy and I do think he has good potential, just depends where he goes next.
{Ed001's Note - you know what I was half asleep when I typed that and I realise I was talking about Ruben Neves not Joao Neves. You are closer, he is more workmanlike, good mobility, works hard, puts himself about, good touch and decent passing range. My apologies for the confusion.}
07 Jul 2023 15:58:51
Ed, do you think Greenwood will ever play for United again?
{Ed002's Note - It is time to move on.}
21 Mar 2023 14:37:34
Shea Lacey is another one to keep an eye on.
27 Sep 2021 18:21:13
I sometimes feel that Raphinha would of been a better fit, but hopefully Sancho finds his feet soon and shows us what he can do.
