Leicester looking like they desperately need Maguire back, fingers crossed, roll on January. Might even get half our money back lol.

Are Wan Bissaka and Dalot progressing enough to maybe think that we're ok there for now and the money could be better spent elsewhere?
1.) 25 Apr 2023 21:33:25
I think so, keep them both for another year and send Laird out on loan to an EPL club and see how he does. Then reassess next summer.
2.) 25 Apr 2023 22:00:55
I think both full back slots can wait until last, GK, CB to share load with Varane, CF priority for me. Perhaps a MF too.
3.) 25 Apr 2023 22:10:41
Spine of the team for me needs attention, GK, CB, CM and CF . FB shouldn’t be the priority, more a development option.
4.) 25 Apr 2023 22:23:48
Said the same the other day. One for each position in the spine and we are in good shape.
5.) 25 Apr 2023 22:39:57
I think we’re all in agreement with that.
6.) 26 Apr 2023 01:55:59
Striker (huge financial outlay, or possibly young prospect like hoyland)
If EtH trusts Martial, 1 is enough. If not, sell AM and bring in 2.
CM (ball playing, tempo setting, but also defensively secure to improve our big game away form)
CB (McGuire replacement ?)
GK (backup)
7.) 26 Apr 2023 06:27:27
I think we need four down the spine all four to start
Replacing de gea varane martial and in certain games instead of Erikson, an energetic midfielder, basically a good version of Fred!
8.) 26 Apr 2023 07:51:43
My ideal window would be :
Vlahovic, Bellingham, Kim Min Jae and Maignan.
9.) 26 Apr 2023 08:49:18
I think if all that happens TrueRed that’d be quite a spectacular summer transfer window.
10.) 26 Apr 2023 09:49:52
We don't need a back-up keeper, we need a new Number One. De Gea is not good enough. Doesn't command his area, afraid of his own shadow. Cannot save a penalty for toffee and he purposely tries to pull off a world class save when there is simply no need. He cannot play out from the back, which is what we need. We need a proper commanding GK.
11.) 26 Apr 2023 10:01:55
Spine of First Team is important for me. Thought it before I seen Red Man's comment. To think we used to disagree on so much. I agree with him on most things now, looking at the site from time to time.
A spine should never be back-up player/ s. Always buy to replace/ improve. DDG not good enough. Needs replacing. Varane is protected now, so needs replacing, someone who can share his load so to speak. Will not play 50 games a season.
A midfielder to go straight into midfield and a first choice striker. Martial is and never has been the answer. Rashford will play LF. Sancho day's are numbered with Garnacho's progression. Will go if a good offer comes in.
Improving the spine is for me the correct way to go, but must all improve the first team, not the squad. Quality over quantity. I know the manager agrees with this as he has said it. Sure there will be development signings too, but first teamers key this summer.
No more back-ups, sure starters only.
12.) 26 Apr 2023 11:01:54
So AWB has a decent game against a decent winger and now he's good enough to keep.
Agreed that the need a CF, CM and CB before a RB but no way are Dalot and AWB good enough.
13.) 26 Apr 2023 11:30:14
Simmo - They are not good enough. Neither can play the role he wants. He likes the RB to get further forward than the LB. The RB almost is an additional attacker. I suspect Dumfries or Frimpong is the two he is keeping an eye on.
14.) 26 Apr 2023 12:59:15
Nice to see you Sydney
I explicitly wrote back up exactly because everyone else on here is going in on DDG.
I think DDG signs a new contract on reduced wages soon. But our GK depth is terrible. So, expect us to sign a younger (and cheaper) keeper to take over from DDG in a few years time.
15.) 26 Apr 2023 16:12:46
I'd go as far as to say AWB is one of our most improved players this season. Since he was introduced back into the fold a few months ago he's clearly improved with each game.
However along with Dalot I expect more from a modern fullback. They need to offer a helluva lot more bombing forward and with their delivery. Both are decent but in my opinion neither offer nearly enough compared to the best in that position in the Prem.
Whether we'll upgrade this close season I'm not sure. Can't see much point in getting another player unless AWB leaves and I only suggest him as Dalot has a new contract so assumably stays. I feel the approach we've adopted at LB with Shaw/ Malacia is working well, the latter hasn't excelled but shows a lot of raw promise.
16.) 26 Apr 2023 16:30:20
Is AWB good enough to stay long term? I doubt it, but I don't think he's cost us many points this season. When Dalot is fit he's first choice, AWB as back up to play 10-15 games a season isn't a major concern and has to be put on the back burner.
Replacing him without addressing the other issues is like watering the flowers in the front garden as the house burns down.
Yeah the soil might be a little dry but you have much bigger issues.
17.) 26 Apr 2023 18:21:36
I get very nervous when Dalot plays. He is half decent going forward but defensively he is a liability. I’d play AWB before him any day of the week. His forward play has improved a little this season, but he is a solid defender which is what we need, especially with the defence as depleted as it is now. Defender’s should be able defend first, everything else second.
I’d definitely play him in the FA Cup final against Grealish, Dalot would cause us huge issues.
18.) 26 Apr 2023 20:34:57
Brendan, it's funny how people see things differently. Dalot has actually been one of the best full backs in the league from a defensive point of view.
I also don't prescribe in to set views about what a player should and shouldn't do based on position. It very much depends on what the tactics of the manager is.
For EtH building out from the back and defending though possession of the ball are key elements of his style of play. To do that you need technically secure defenders who are press resistant.
While AWB might be amazing at making last ditch tackles, I'm sure EtH's vision means our fullbacks should rarely have to make them.
Like Maldini used to say, "if you have to dive in and make a tackle then you as the defender have already made the mistake".
Everyone has a different view, and want to see a different style of play.
For what EtH is trying to do Dalot makes much more sense.
That said I tend to agree for the League cup final. However, that's more to do with the injuries we have. Without Martinez and Varane it would be madness to try and play out from the back against a great pressing side like City. Pretty much suicide.
We will need to be more practical, defensive solid, look to transition quickly and pla counter attacking football. I'd play the same back four that played against Brighton, but would look to have Fred start in midfield alongside Casemiro and Bruno, Weghorst between Rashford and Antony.
19.) 27 Apr 2023 08:54:06
'The best in Europe in his position for his age' was what Mourinho described Dalot as when he came in.
I'd hate to have seen the worst.
20.) 27 Apr 2023 09:29:58
Dalot is awful. Can't defend and knuckle balls every cross over the bar. AWB is far better.
21.) 27 Apr 2023 09:54:28
If we get rid of one of the two i hope it's Dalot.
AWB is bad but i would sooner have him playing over Dalot any day of the week.
Dalot is terrible!
22.) 27 Apr 2023 10:33:09
when you play teams like city, arsenal, liverpool or chelsea next season who have wingers that can cause a lot of damage, awb is perfect right back.
I understand his limitation going forward but that's easier to overcome as a team than a right back that leaks goals. Still remember the psg game where mbappe did not know what to do against him.
I think we are very Naive if we part with him for what's reported as a fee looking at what average players are going for especially if we come knocking.
plenty like maguire, elanga, pallistri need to move on before we sell awb imo. Greenwood will be back next season and we will take some stick for it but the club rates him highly as a footballer.
23.) 27 Apr 2023 10:52:04
Imagine if Utd's opinion of Greenwood as a player was the basis they came to a decision on.
24.) 27 Apr 2023 13:27:19
But Spenno.
What about those Neville boys at RB, surely they're worth a look. :D.
25.) 27 Apr 2023 14:18:14
The new target according to the media today is Vanderson from Monaco.
26.) 27 Apr 2023 14:24:47
Not sure what you're saying Waggle but for what it's worth I thought the Nevilles were pretty poor, Philip in particular! I assume England weren't blessed at RB in those days for Gary to have a million caps!
27.) 27 Apr 2023 15:08:35
People seem to have short term memories. Before the world cup the same folks who are championing AwB would have sold him for free. Dalot has had a dip in form post his injury and now he is supposedly the worst.
19 Mar 2023 16:27:16
Maybe time to bring the next Ferguson to the club. Evan Ferguson looks a fantastic prospect.
1.) 19 Mar 2023 21:21:16
Rooney mark2.
2.) 20 Mar 2023 07:17:13
I think he could do with another year at Brighton for his personal development. That said if someone moves for him this summer then we should throw our hat into the ring.
Much like when we made the move for Rooney because Newcastle put in a bid. The difference is Rooney did play over 18 months of EPL football for Everton before his move, while Ferguson currently has less than 6 months under his belt. Rooney had played nearly 70 matches for Everton before his move, currently Ferguson has 16 games under his belt for Brighton.
3.) 20 Mar 2023 09:41:44
Is the club/ ten Hag even interested in Evan Ferguson? Would be fantastic if we could sign him to replace Martial and add another more established striker like Mitrovic so that he is eased in slowly with little pressure to perform.
{Ed002's Note - No the club has shown no interest.}
4.) 20 Mar 2023 12:13:32
Well too bad. He looks like he has a bright future. Thanks for the info Ed002.
{Ed002's Note - Yes, there is interest from elsewhere but Brighton won't want to sell.}
5.) 20 Mar 2023 13:31:02
All our great teams had an Irish man in them, get him signed asap.
21 Aug 2022 21:13:15
Nice mistake by de jong leading to sociedads goal. He'll fit in well with us!
1.) 22 Aug 2022 06:35:50
We’ll throw in an extra £10m for that.
31 Jan 2021 15:58:06
Tough to say but what a good watch Leeds were today. A team with no big names, prepared to work hard and also play great attacking football.
1.) 31 Jan 2021 16:29:18
They work as a team too, high energy teamwork? It was very impressive.
2.) 01 Feb 2021 06:58:45
It also makes Shappys long essay about comparing players a nonsense. Leeds are well coached and play as a team, plus it is decent football to watch, unlike us most of the time.
3.) 01 Feb 2021 10:53:48
So if Leeds can put in this amount of effort what's the excuse at Utd?
19 May 2019 09:17:15
Watch City go out and get a top class replacement for Kompany while we still struggle to get the leader at the back we have needed for the last few years.
1.) 19 May 2019 12:43:44
De Ligt I reckon.
14 May 2024 21:53:32
Frank Spencer.
06 May 2024 20:14:39
Weakest team for 40 years.
24 Jan 2024 17:12:18
I’m sure Benzema would be happy to come here on megabucks and toss it off like Casemiro and Varane. Surely we won’t go down that road again?
15 Dec 2023 08:09:50
Take 180 million as long as sancho is included, (and Martial)
18 Oct 2022 21:49:43
Watching Palace and have to say Zaha is a far better winger than Sancho and Anthony.
13 Oct 2024 10:25:13
Just sign decent players.
06 Oct 2024 18:30:28
Rashford might be a luxury but what do Hjolund, Zirkzee and Anthony contribute, absolutely nothing. Just watched Brighton and Danny Welbeck does more work than these 3 put together!
04 Oct 2024 12:46:36
You’re never going to score many goals when you sign players like Hoyland and Zirkzee. Nowhere near good enough at this stage of their careers.
14 Sep 2024 10:03:47
Having spent (wasted) £600 million, how much more do we need to spend before he can say we should be challenging for the title?
01 Sep 2024 19:36:13
Quite a lot on here.
