Radio stations here in Dublin this morning are reporting United have submitted an offer for Hummels. Manchester evening news had the same story yesterday. Anybody around to share some light on the subject?? Would be a great signing.

1.) 06 Jan 2015 11:33:20
Would love it if we got him! Easily the best realistic signing we could make this window. Plenty of years left in him, very good experience at the top level. If not this window then summer is a must for us to go get him.

2.) 06 Jan 2015 12:37:20
I think Ed002 had said that Dortmund will want a replacement in before they will let Hummels go, which is understandable. I would hope that United get first choice quality now or leave it until the summer, no point signing average players just to see us through to the end of the season.

3.) MU tried for a period of time during the summer to get Hummels. A couple of times there were extensive talks if rumours are to be believed. Something tells me that he is ready to move if MU and BD can agree a deal. I think we have a good chance of signing him by September and he would be an amazing signing. If Barcelona are banned from signings for the next few windows then we are in a very good position. He would be our new Vidic.

4.) 06 Jan 2015 13:40:39
Everything is pointing towards us having a good chance of getting him. Firstly there is no interest from Bayern or RM. Barcelona quite simply can't do a deal and I doubt he would be of interest to PSG who have three expensive centre halves on their books already.

I would imagine that Arsenal would bid against us but I don't think they would have the same pulling power that we do. Also signs point to him being fed up at Dortmund with how things are going.

The big question is, would he give up 6 months of CL football to move in January?

5.) 06 Jan 2015 16:05:24
A quality CB he may be, but is he not a little slow? I know Vidic wasn't the quickest but he had Rio beside him to cover. Hummels would have Smalling / Jones, would you be happy with that?

Also, if we do get Hummels or another CB this January, do you think we will persist with 3-5-2?

6.) His positioning on the pitch is world class our defense this season is missing that hugely. Just watch smalling, jones, evans r any of the young lads they are always all over the place. Hummels would sort that out.i honestly don't know what way it will affect our formations as we are so bad this season with injuries its impossible to say anything until that gets sorted out first.

7.) 06 Jan 2015 16:40:46
Hummels would be a great signing. Put Rojo in next him, he's got the pace to compliment Hummels' composure.

Would like to see Blackett getting more games ahead of Smalling and Evans. Barring his red card against Leicester, he's looked good when he's played.

8.) Hummels alongside either Smalling or Rojo would be fine. The guidance of Hummels and positioning combined with the covering pace of the other two. We very rarely get caught in behind anyway, I can't remember when we last did.

9.) 06 Jan 2015 19:47:11
I was against signing Hummels in the previous window, and looking a few years into the future, there are still good reasons an "all round" cb like Benatia may have been a better option. If we were among Europe's elite, that slight weakness. - A slow cb, a 3 man defence, a high line. It may have proved enough to separate us from the Bayern's or Real's.

That's all wishful thinking at this point however.

6 months on, the reality is Hummels is "a must." LVG has done well to create a resolute mentality, but it doesn't substitute or erase the threat, continuing, "terrible performances" are providing us with.

Form and results are a good thing, but they can collapse easily when 11 players are unable to get out of first gear.
For me the problem starts with the defence, continues with the defence, and ends with it too. We are a little on the slow side in attack, true, but if you watch games, pay attention to inability of the defence to move the ball into midfield. The worst culprit is Evans, closely followed by Smalling. I guarantee you by the time the ball reaches the midfield, the opposition have had time to recover their shape, and have a cup of tea in the process. - Every f**ing time! Its driving me a little mad to be honest.
This is all partly down to the new style of course. i'm not against the whole Barcelona passing system, but the reality is, if your going down that route, make sure you have the players to do it. It all makes sense now why we went for Vermalen (eventually signed by Barcelona, ) and why the one defender we did manage to sign was Marcos Rojo, another passing defender.
The point is, LVG has not been equipped to play his game properly. that's partly his fault. He could of got someone in at the back, on the cheap. Anyone really, so long as they could do possession control. Its also partly Woodwards and the owners fault, for not thinking it was an urgent priority to replace 2 legendary centrebacks departing in the same season, especially with a sudden switch to 3 cb's.
I just hope they don't slow play it this window. Spend next seasons budget if you must, I really don't care, just make sure that you don't leave a half working machine come the 1st of feb.

10.) 06 Jan 2015 23:29:02
Hummels besides varane would be deadly

29 Jan 2014 18:28:35
Heard 2 stories today one is Nani is on his way to Inter on loan with a view to buying in the summer and the other was kroos will be a utd player before the window shuts. Both positive and I for one would love to see it happen. Any of the eds about to throw some light on the subject. O and Rooney has signed his contract.
shine on brothers.

Daily Mail report Ed Woodpecker is in talks with Rooneys agent over new deal. Would be nice if he signed on we could do with a captain like Wazza.

RedKen

1.) If Rooney signs another deal and keeps himself fit I think he should be the next captain after Vidic and Evra.

Hi Eds, quick one for ya's, Is Mata a no go totally or would we have a chance or even more likely in signing him after the weekend game against Chelsea?

RedKen

{Ed002's Note - There has been no approach to Chelsea for Mata. The game at the weekend is of no consequence.}

Hey eds,
Been a while hope all is good. Just a quick one for yous, is there any news on this Everton Riviera lad, he looks quite good and I thought it seemed a close to being done deal as he wanted us and we wanted him but all is quiet now! Any updates?

Probably putting my hand out for a slap here but just wondering with the impending transfer ban and some rag rumours what's the liklihood of Isco and Kroos leaving Madrid. Have Utd ever shown interest in either of these? I've also read some stories about Hummels and Gundogan leaving are these just rumours so they both get better wages or do they carry any substance. I recall us being linked to both at different stages.

RedKen

1.) 14 Jan 2016 17:41:42
I would say it dramatically reduces the chances of players leaving Real Madrid.

They will have little to no time to find replacements.

Effectively the Madrid teams have 2 weeks to get all their transfer business done until the summer of 2017.

As for the Dortmund lads, I expect both could be for sale if enough money was offered. So far it hasn't been, so I have my doubts it will be.

08 Sep 2015 16:20:17
Does anybody else worry about our youth system?? Since LVG has taken over very little looks like it's going to break through. I know we see the names on the sheets but none really playing. I thought with the goalkeeping issue Johnstone might get a look in but then we bought a keeper and that's out the window for this season. Januzaj looks to be on his way out who was our main product of recent yrs. Pereira and Lingard don't appear to be getting much of a look in. Then there's the Welbeck, Cleverly, Evans and tons more that have been sold on. Bearing in mind Fergie(I know don't compare) rarely sold on homegrown and had most of them playing well. I personally had really hoped to see more come through at this stage. Blackett and McNair are the new hopes I guess.

RedKen

1.) 08 Sep 2015 17:19:07
I would be annoyed if Adnan was moved on permanently without being given more of a chance. there's no option to buy as I understand it so I won't worry too much yet.

The others I have very little problem with. Clev, Welbeck and Evans may well be better placed at mid table sides, although I'm glad of their service. Lingard has never broke thru under 3 different managers and I think will settle at a lower level, possibly the same with Blackett.

I think Pereira and Mcnair deserve a chance whether that be thru loans or the occasional first team cameo, I'm hoping to see that over the next season or 2 so let's see what happens.

I can't say I'm either disappointed or overjoyed at Lvg's approach to the youth until this point but I will give him praise for at least giving a number of our youngsters their first taste of first team football during his first season and a bit. Still more to come though hopefully.

2.) 08 Sep 2015 17:36:40
From one Ken to another. I think the academy's doing ok, especially compared with other clubs. Like anything, it could be better but we live in an era of instant gratification and so youth players won't get the time to develop like they might have had in the past.

The players you spoke of, Evans, Welbeck and Cleverley, all had their chance and neither of them really took it so you can't blame the club for selling them. You've got a point with Johnstone, I think he's been unfairly treated. He shoud've had his chance with the whole De Gea saga, not bloody Romero!!

We've got a good bunch coming through (Lingard, Pereira, Blackett, McNair, Januzaj etc.), hopefully they'll establish themselves as first team regulars over the next couple of years.

For now though, I think we're ok. I know LvG is always pushing the BPL and the club to improve coaching standards for younger players and bring English youth teams up to the same standard as the coaching staff on the continent - so the youth hasn't been completely neglected.

Did I read somewhere that over the last 10 or so seasons we've brought through more academy graduates than any other PL team?

3.) 08 Sep 2015 20:51:38
When Lou took over Ed Woody did an interview on how he expects the club to move forward and how he expects Lou to carry the job.

He outlined that when Lou took over the main emphasis was the improvement of the first team and securing champions league and ensuring the right plans were in place to maintain a healthy first team.

There are obviously some signings to be made to the first team in order for it to be world class again, but I do feel the necessary steps have been put in place to re-structure the youth set up which is why the club kept Lou in the job this summer when they had the option to replace him.

4.) 08 Sep 2015 21:10:41
Fergie sold plenty over the years.

The academy needs an overhaul and who better than a guy whos coached at three clubs all renowned for their youth set ups.

Id take a couple of barren years if in return we get another period of domination inspired by the academy.

Some of us waited 26 years for a league title and some are going crazy after 2 years?

5.) 08 Sep 2015 21:23:11
Thats what happens nowadays Mort. If a few years are waited for the next youth, who knows how far the likes of City and Chelsea would be ahead. The more they win the more money they would make to pluck these youngsters and also buy world class players for higher prices.
Football is a business and sponsors would leave utd if they ended up falling back, they wouldn't be as attractable as they once were.

6.) 08 Sep 2015 23:08:11
Football goes in cycles.

7.) 08 Sep 2015 23:40:05
Bloody Romero and his bloody clean sheet, Who does he think he is.

8.) 09 Sep 2015 16:38:11
Jackutd, you can't seriously say that Romero is worthy of being (stand-in) Number 1 for United, can you?

Fair enough he got a few clean sheets but he had 5 saves to make during those 3 games and 4 of those were against Spurs! So it wasn't like he'd been tested.

I think everybody could see that error for Swansea's 2nd goal coming, too. De Gea (and other GKs) wouldn't have let either of those goals in that day.

21 Aug 2015 14:50:29
Anybody feel we are becoming a bit of a piss take? Every player under the sky is linked with us and when we appear to be making a move something happens.Gundogan, Otamendi, Pedro to name a few, it seems we are all quiet until we go for the player then its take the mickey time.New links with Griezmann seem like another joke on us moment. So we are now being linked with Madrid young starlet as the answer to the De Gea issue and our striking issue. TBH it's really annoying as if we were to use a young starlet as our answer I would rather it be Wilson. I don't wanna be a Woodie basher but I'm heading that way although I dunno if it is him or LVG!!

1.) 21 Aug 2015 15:37:59
Thank the media for all this. I doubt people at the club are ringing up the papers and feeding them stuff.

2.) 21 Aug 2015 15:30:27
. and how the hell do you know which players we have actually attempted to sign? Woodward has no control over the press or social media. He has to this point brought in four excellent additions to the squad and is no doubt working hard on more.

Jeez. Get a grip man, because posts like this are quite frankly more embarrassing than anything that Woodward has or hasn't done!

3.) 21 Aug 2015 15:35:16
Yes, they're called rumors.

4.) 21 Aug 2015 15:36:12
Yea we are a joke, we never sign any good players, schneiderlin, schweinsteiger, Darmian and depay are figments of our imagination, posts like this are a little embarrassing to say the least it's becoming harder to read some of the stuff on here.

5.) 21 Aug 2015 15:43:08
I wouldn't take much notice of any of the tabloids Ken. They are as much "in the know" as you or I.

6.) 21 Aug 2015 15:47:11
Redken

The words "linked with", "targeted" are the problem. I am afraid you are believing the biased press and falling into exactly the pit they want you to. There are elements, many Scouse, in the press who want to make everyone believe our time is up, no one wants to play for us and if they say it enough some might believe it. The words linked and targeted are frankly pathetic, at a time when we are keen and hang on every word , clicking on every internet story, they have found a way to get publicity, use the words Manchester United and add linked or target. They have the added bonus if we don't then buy that player to write that we missed out, were rejected. If you don't believe me count up how many players we have been "linked" with or targeted and I bet it won't be far off 150 by now, Woodward would have to set up a queuing system X factor style with that many. It all suits agents as well who are trying to get their client a better deal.
Stop getting wound up by the drivel in the press and judge by actions not words and certainly do not believe the press with every single story at a time when they want to see us fail. If you see the words linked or target regard it with suspicion.

7.) 21 Aug 2015 15:50:14
Sam i think a lot of this is because the fans are gullible. They believe eth in the papers.

8.) 21 Aug 2015 16:15:46
Is it immature that i found this line funny??
"i don't wanna be a woodie basher but i'm heading that way"

9.) 21 Aug 2015 17:24:47
JK92 I agree I didn't see that one when I was moaning earlier. My reason behind the rant is more from watching LVG annoyed earlier, if the Pedro deal was nothing he wouldn't have got wound up. It annoyed me to think of us becoming a team who, while in this period of change buying so much and being a laughing stock as a result, in fairness like we've been doing to city and Chelsea for the last few years. But then again maybe I am paying too much attention to the media. Can't wait for silly season to end.

10.) 21 Aug 2015 17:39:46
I guess most f us have see that graphic showing the formation with Al the players we have been trying to sign. there were 4 goalkeepers, 3 RBs, 8 CMs, and about 6 CFs. most of it is complete tosh

11 Jul 2015 17:20:47
So I'm a bit of a mixed bag of emotions here. We could have bought 2 good premier league ready players so far this window (clyne+Schneiderlin) however we have opted for two players from outside the league. One from Italy which is not a great or competitive league and the other from Germany which in fairness in recent times has been a one team league. With regards hitting the ground running, would it not have been better to buy the previous two. I know the quality we are buying but the breaking in period cost us hugely last season and the competition in the prem is so much tougher than what either of these players are used to.
Also why do we keep buying players on 4 year contracts rather than 5yr +1 ultimately giving us an advantage when selling again?? (Granted basti's age). And am I the only one who thinks selling Rafael is silly considering we need competition in that position? I really don't want to see Jones or smalling out there again as they need to focus on cb. Plus our defense for huge periods in the last 3 seasons has been ravaged by injuries.
Go easy on me I'm an old git who thinks too much haha.

RedKen

1.) 11 Jul 2015 17:54:59
What makes you think clyne will be better than Darmain? Have you seen plenty of him? The league he plays in doesn't mean r won't be good enough. How many people want Pogba or Vidal, the leagues not an issue then? Clyne is decent going forward but suspect defensively. Darmain offers us height while defending set pieces too. Give him a chance. As for Schneiderlin we are still in for him. So he's still likely to come. Schweinsteiger offers us something we haven't had since Keane! A true leader and warrior in cm. Schneiderlin isn't going to have the same level of experience and leadership. So the two together makes sense! Some people are just never happy

2.) 11 Jul 2015 17:48:19
Redken. Darmian is a very solid defender who plays for Italy. He's extremely quick and fits the mould of the new wing backs.
Schweini is simply one of the best midfielders around. He will give us 3-4 years of his best football. He is a fantastic player
More importantly, both players are solid footballers who will settle in quickly.
I'm still of the opinion that we should buy schneiderlin in addition to schweini.

3.) 11 Jul 2015 18:24:31
Some people are honestly never ever happy. That one team league you refer to was that one team the one we bought from? Clyne the worldie who has made such an impact on the International stage! i'd have prefered Coleman but not at 30m+. Think Darmian might surprise a few, their league might not be great but their defenders know how to defend, which is something we've missed down the right.

Also we have bagged one of the brightest young talents in Europe in Depay.

Get a CB and a CF (if RVP leaves) and our squad looks a hell of a lot stronger.

4.) 11 Jul 2015 18:19:10
Yes Schweni played at a much lower standard whilst winning the world cup and UCL

5.) 11 Jul 2015 18:21:35
Some clowns on here would complain if we signed Messi, there's a difference between signing a one season wonder from a small league than signing someone who has dominated top tier football for a decade

6.) 11 Jul 2015 18:48:05
Absolutely Jaime excellent point.

7.) 11 Jul 2015 19:18:54
RedKen the Italian league is on the rise again IMO and if you sign an Italian you sign a defender darmian had intrest from bayern so obviously is a good player and if your questioning a signing of schweinsteiger you are wrong. Yes schneiderlin would give us a few more years but signing the German captain one of the best midfielders in the world who can play holding and box to box roles he's a natural leader and an absolute warrior give him 3 years and sign another cm after it's a no brainer one of the beat signings in recent years

04 Jul 2015 17:12:28
So if the betting and papers are to be believed Wilson is heading to Hull on a season long loan. RVP is off with Nani to Fenerbache and Chicarito has been told to find a new club. Seems like we will be a bit short up front. So what sort of names look remotely possible to all you "in the know folk" as I'm sure LVG won't be happy with just Wazza up front considering he is also pretty much his favourite midfielder!! Why o why don't they have faith in Hernandez. With preseason starting next week does anybody think we are in for a couple of days of madness or simply a big squad with lots of youth heading abroad??

RedKen

{Ed004's Note - I think LvG will be signing a striker however I have no idea who. He complained during the season about not having a 20 goals a season striker}

1.) 04 Jul 2015 17:47:45
im going to guess cavani

2.) 04 Jul 2015 18:18:39
Maybe Rooney will play attacking mid 'fellaini' position slightly further forward than Herrera and sign benzema, Cavani, lacazette or higuain.

3.) 04 Jul 2015 18:20:38
I hope it's Lacazette! Rather pay £30m for a 24 yr old than £50m for Cavani whoses 28!

4.) 04 Jul 2015 18:25:26
Ed Woodward if your reading this forum as you say you are a watchman of most united forums.
L A C A Z E T T E please, only young and appears to posses the tools to take that next step.
No hanging around let LVG know!

5.) 04 Jul 2015 18:26:58
28! Take him out back with a shotgun. A man that age can barrel pass wind, let alone a football.

6.) 04 Jul 2015 18:29:55
I agree, jred. And I hope it is. But he'll not be bought to sit on the bench as back up to Wayne. So where does Wayne go? If it's midfield, then I'd rather Cavani stay where he is.

7.) 04 Jul 2015 18:32:42
I genuinely have no idea who he wants or is going to sign. I mean we still have a big hole in midfield and defence to fill not to mention our no.1 although I'm happy with Vallez if he can be like Edwin. I was under the impression for some reason we would have all our new players in by preseason but it's quite the opposite we will have lots gone and none in by the looks of it (bar 1)

8.) 04 Jul 2015 18:43:56
Redken

We keep going over the Hernandez situation but simply he plays well running on to balls crossed from close in because his movement is very good. However back to goal and close control is no where near good enough as a first choice striker. He could come on as a sub but I doubt that is what he wants. We need a first choice striker rather than rely on another season of mix and match

9.) 04 Jul 2015 18:54:59
I'm going to say one of benzema/Muller now I know some say muller is impossible but I'd of said ramos was and although nothing is done yet it looks possible

Stranger things have happened

Muller regardless of whether we can/can't he is my no.1 choice

10.) 04 Jul 2015 19:24:05
Muller would be my shout, play out right and when Rooney isn't fit he can lead the line. Perfect signing.

11.) 04 Jul 2015 20:12:18
Muller is not a bad shout

12.) 04 Jul 2015 20:28:08
Cavani is already average at what ever age he is! Can't see what all the hype is over? Lacazette would fit in perfectly going forward! Cavani is just not worth the money or his wage! Lyon have already bought a replacement for him anyway?! Think of both Lacazette and Depay going forward? Goals, goals, goals! As well as them BOTH getting better due to both their ages! It's a no f'ing brainer!! Endless pot of money? Just go get him, and quick!

13.) 04 Jul 2015 20:45:34
lacazette is a full 4 years younger than cavani.
at 24 years old he has had one good season in the french league .
looks a decent player but there are still a few question marks about him.
cavani imo is a proven top class striker .
cavani would suit the EPl imo

14.) 04 Jul 2015 20:45:43
Muller Lacazette or Kane

15.) 04 Jul 2015 20:47:54
I agree Red Man but the lad scores goals and we spent our balls last season on a type of player who is the same as chico and didn't score so if we need that sort of player why not use what we have and love.
Let me throw this name in there, Harry Kane.

16.) 04 Jul 2015 20:54:19
this won't be popular but i would sign berahino before kane or lacazette

17.) 04 Jul 2015 23:41:01
Ezequial rescaldani

18.) 05 Jul 2015 00:57:47
Lowendowski

{Ed007's Note - (yes)

19.) 05 Jul 2015 09:10:18
Lewandowski for me above all the others but can't see BM selling him.
I see people are getting uptight about Rooney being un-droppable well that was last season and there was only one real choice as captain plus he was above the level of the other strikers at the club generally. Added to that was his fight and leadership on the pitch and we didn't have anyone else showing that last season. However, if we buy a top striker Rooney has to up his game to stay in the team and I doubt LvG will stick to his undroppable comments if Rooney is not performing.

I hope I'm not the only person who would like to keep Evans. Yes I'd like Stones too but Evans was fantastic for a while. More so with Rio and Vidic but he showed real talent and ability I think he still has that he may just need to focus or work harder or something but he's a home grown lad and has real good potential and the last thing we need after last season is to be letting defenders go.

This is ridiculous, we absolutely do not need baines, why waste money on him when evra is still doing the job and Buttner has shown a lot of promise and we still have Fabio, there's no need for Baines, its our midfield that needs work. Does Evra want out? Does moyes not rate the younger lads? Baines is going to be overpriced and not needed . Ridiculous. Buy fellaini and for the money we will spend on Baines buy eriksen, young, cheap and better than what we have! If he's talking about value in the market there it is.

Your not far wrong Rich and AJH man enough with the trolling. Personally I don't know about Austin maybe a bit of a step backwards I think Kane would partner well with Rooney we should go all out and try get him. But a quick fix would be Ibrahimavic he's got the ego to fit into our club without a breaking in period. Benteke could have been a missed opportunity (hope I'm wrong)
However I still think we have problems in our midfield. Against Newcastle we had no speed and we were so predictable their defense just ate us up and knew what we were doing. I think PSG'S lucas maura(spelling) could be a beast for us and I think we could get him if we tried. I also reckon Muller could be a possibility for us which would be a huge buy if we could get any of them we would be doing well.

Would still love to have Schneiderlin as he's young enough to learn from Carrick and Schweiny. Think of the beast we would have in 2/3 years as well as the options we would have now. There's no way Schweiny will come from a one team league and maintain his high standard and fitness in the prem and we know what Carricks fitness is like so having the extra man would make a huge difference especially with the extra games this season. It also gives us a player/leader to bridge the age gap with the young lads coming through.
