Hello Eds, Just a short question: If you have any info can you elaborate on the situation regarding Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong.

Thanks.

PR

{Ed002's Note - Tahith Chong (RW) one for the future - MU don't want to sell but the player has concerns about having no mapped out future and MUs efforts to buy themselves back in to contention in the summer of 2019 - a tentative approach from Bayern Munich was turned away. BM may decide to look to TC again in 2020 as one potential long term replacement for Arjen Robben. Juventus have made his representatives aware of their interest in the player as well.

As for Angel Gomes (AM) interest has been shown by Borussia Dortmund and the player would be open to a move to London if there was a guarantee of playing time.

1.) 22 Nov 2019 12:02:34
Sounds like both lads are considering their options and may well look for moves away. Dortmund would be a good move for Gomes.

2.) 22 Nov 2019 12:41:02
They have talent but they need to realise not every player is a Rooneyor a mbappe and a first regular at that age.

What they need is a loan for regular game time and reassess then.

3.) 22 Nov 2019 13:29:14
From the sounds of it both would be happy if they had some sort of clear pathway mapped out for their progression.

Something more like, we are going to work on these areas of your game to enable to compete for a place in the first team, you'll be given chances in the cup games, and maybe depending on training ground performances on the bench for league games. In January you'll be loaned out to (x, y and z) for the rest of the season to gain regular football. Following that we will reassess where you are over the summer with maybe another loan next season or a run in the first team.

Or something like that. Young players need attainable targets, and a clear path laid out in front of them.

4.) 22 Nov 2019 16:21:53
True. So that's down to the manager and the head of youth development. But we don't know if this has been discussed.

5.) 22 Nov 2019 20:11:27
Mort, and Shappy.
Young players need expert guidance. As Shappy says the club can provide excellent career guidance. But they are often as the mercy of unscrupulous agents or dumbass family members who are chasing the money and not playing the long game.
That plus the prospect of high level football on the continent from clubs that than make 30 / 100m back in 2 or 3 years if the player excels like sancho.
Too often there appears to be no parental guidance either.
Mort you are bang on. Every club has at least 60 players on the clubs books between the ages of 16 and 20. How many teenagers start every week in the epl? The %percentage is minute. They are a rarity in reality.
Teenagers in football need to be patient and be well advised and guided. Too many are not.

6.) 22 Nov 2019 22:34:34
Gomes has a massive decision to make. From what I’m told he and his family both believe he should be a regular and on more money etc. Like I said before I’ve been told this by someone I’ve chatted too who follows the academy and knows a few of the players.

On Chong, there’s a player in him, but he needs toughened up a bit. I would suggest that ramanzani is looking a better player at this moment in time and Dylan Levitt is looking top notch.

I wonder if the minutes mason is getting is making them rethink their futures.

7.) 23 Nov 2019 10:22:23
Hi Ed, is there perhaps a specific London club which has shown an interest in taking Gomes?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

8.) 23 Nov 2019 14:21:42
Ah okay, thank you for the reply, Ed002. Enjoy your weekend!

Man brokering the deal for Welbeck has said that the possible fee will be from 15-18 million GBP. (BBC 5 Live)

PR

1.) 01 Sep 2014 19:27:29
Cheap if lallana cost £25

2.) Ssn are saying welbeck not having a medical and no deal to be done

3.) Rip off if Balotelli cost £16mill.

Don't understand why everyone seems to obsessed with what other teams pay for players!

If I was I would comment that United paid £29million more for Herrera, an uncapped 25 yr old with no premier league experience and a scoring rate of 0.07

Whereas Liverpool paid £4million less for a 26 yr old full international, with 2 years premier league experience and a scoring rate of 0.2!

But then that would be petty!

Clubs will pay what they think a player is worth, some clubs will value players differently, that's supply and demand!

{Ed007's Note - We've had this discussion before about scoring ratios on the LFC site. It was agreed you lot were wrong, a goal every 0.2 of a game is 5 goals per game (0.2 x 5 = 1) or a goal every 18 mins.}

4.) Umm sorry, but that is simply about how you interpret it, I would suggest you are interpreting it differently to the majority.

A scoring rate of 0.2, I, and most others I think, would view as 0.2 goals per game. Not 0.2 games per goal.

In the same way you would count number of successful passes per game, tackles per game, shots per game or assists per game, not number of games per successful pass (although that might be best for United's midfield at the moment!)

The same system is used in Baseball (eg 0.333 hits per at bat), same in cricket (eg strike rate of 67.7), same in rugby (points per game) same in almost every sport worldwide as far as I can see.

Although that does detract from the point I was making about the relative prices of players.

{Ed007's Note - You didn't explain what formula you were using so there's no need to apologise for being wrong. You can't just type random thoughts or numbers and expect people to follow your train of though.
We have a baseball site if you want me to post a link up, we use the common sense system in here.}

5.) Common sense would dictate that I meant 0.2 games per goal, not 5 goals per game, surely?

It would not be common sense to think that I meant Ander Herrera scored on average 14.29 goals per game!

However, the scoring ratio was never really my point.

I don't understand why everyone is so obsessed with what other teams pay for players. Each club values players differently. Chelsea could have taken Markovic for half of what Liverpool paid, they decided not to. Doesn't mean anything really!

{Ed007's Note - Don't be a 3.14159. We use traditional British football talk which is a goals per game ratio, not some Americanised trendy nonsense you've borrowed from a game of rounders. Look at this time-stamp on the LFC site: 24 Jul 2014 11:31:24 where it was explained before.

6.) Goals per game ratio? Like I used in my first post that you then said was wrong?

I'm now totally confused, that's exactly what I said in my first post (0.2 and 0.07) goals per game.

You said quite clearly that a 0.2 scoring ratio meant 0.2 games per goal or 5 goals per game. Which would have meant that 0.07 would be over 14 goals a game. Are you now saying that that was wrong?

Baseball, cricket, rugby, oh and football, all of these sports use the same scoring system, why are you having a go at baseball in particular? I don't understand

Is deadline day getting to you a little Ed007?

I really don't get where you are coming from apart from trying to belittle a Liverpool fan for the sole reason they are a Liverpool fan posting on the United board. Should I just stay on the Liverpool site from now on?

But then I'm sure you won't accept that you just read my original post wrong, you will either not post this response, or just be offensive again.

I really do appreciate all of the hard work that you guys put in, the sites are all great, I visit everyday (not pausing the ads at the top and keeping the volume on as I know that helps) but I just don't get it when it becomes offensive, from the users, or especially from the Eds. It's a real shame, in an otherwise exceptional operation.

Anyway, I hope you can all relax a bit after silly season guys and gals, and reflect on a job very well done!

It seems that the original point about valuation of players will not be discussed, and in that case I bid you good night!

Cheers everyone, happy international break!

{Ed007's Note - I thought it would confuse you, I'd imagine it's not a difficult thing to do. How can anyone score 0.2 of a goal it's not difficult is it? Normal people would say he's scored 2 goals in 10 games or he's averaging a goal every 3 games, not he has scoring rate of 0.2, if anything it reads he hasn't scored in 2 matches as in 0 and 2. Do you want to talk about batting averages?}

7.) Reddawn,

At what point has bond been offensive? Because he tried to explain that what you were saying makes no sense? You need to strap a pair on.

BBC reports that Valencia and Juventus have made bids for Hernandez.

PR

1.) Hernandez is close to a move to Juve apparently, that's according to Mexican media. I think it will be separate to any Vidal deal. Kagawa to Valencia perhaps. Maybe just maybe Welbeck could stay put? Would make sense to have Welbeck and Wilson as back-up to Rooney and Van Persie. Have Welbeck and LvG kissed and made-up?

22 Aug 2014 11:39:07
Eds any info in reported Arsenal and Spurs interest in Danny Welbeck? Reports suggest LVG told him he is not in his plans. Personally I can't see him being sold if Chicha also leaves. Or is it that the club are willing to get some money back from a player who will have higher value in the market?

PR

{Ed002's Note - His agent is hawking him around a number of English clubs - it would be speculative to say that there is interest right now.}

1.) Welbeck leaving could be a very real indication of Di Maria being close. Welbeck is only being kept for his pace and workrate in attack and Di Maria would solve that.

If Chicharito leaves too and Wilson is promoted, I can see us moving to a 4-3-3 with just one striker playing.

2.) I cannot see us moving to a 433 whether we buy Di Maria or not. It makes no sense at all.

3.) Ed is it true that lvg has told welbeck he can leave

{Ed002's Note - I don't know what the player has been told. I know what his agent is doing.}

4.) Would be surprised if he went, thought he added something during the USA trip. Good reserve and quick.
Maybe he wants first team football so as not to waste his career.

5.) 22 Aug 2014 16:02:15
thanks Ed002 keep up the great work

6.) I thought we would be playing 4-3-3 by the start of the season but it could be sooner

7.) Start of NEXT season

8.) Selling Welbeck would make little sense if the manager was aiming to play a 433. Welbeck can play anywhere in the front three and would suit that formation perfectly. It also means only one of Rooney, Van Persie & Mata can play at one time. So it's not going to happen anytime soon. It may happen during games if we are going to take a CB off and bring on another attacking player, but I think the 3412 is here for a long time.

9.) Syd
Or the manger may think welbeck isn't good enough to play any of them positions

Rumours of Zaha to Nottingham Forest on a loan.

PR

1.) Newcastle will be a better move for him IMO.

2.) Have been denied by Nottingham Forrest themselves

3.) I would doubt he'd go there as it would be a waste. He would be better going to a mid table or a promoted team in the premiership. He needs premiership experience nothing less

4.) He needs to go to a fairly competitive ambitious club, he needs to be worked hard otherwise I can't see him improving.

Read a article this morning about our young goalkeeper Dean Henderson. Just a quick question for discussion.

Despite Romero being a very good goalkeeper he isn't going to challenge De Gea for first team. For me Dean Henderson is capable of taking the number two spot and in few years time maybe be our number one ( I expect Real Madrid coming in again as they have failed miserably in succession of goalkeeper) . Would you like to sell Romero ( make few funds available that way) and give Drano a chance?

PR

1.) 07 Feb 2019 13:56:34
I thought Drano would be a certainty for the clean out 😂.

2.) 07 Feb 2019 14:11:28
At his age does he want to sit on the bench?
Another year on loan for me is the best solution if ddg signs up.
He is one of the best young keepers around. He will only develop by playing weekly.
I doubt romero would raise significant funds to be honest. Best back up in any club imo.

3.) 07 Feb 2019 14:14:14
Romero is the best "second" keeper in the league. He is better than many keepers we have had as first choice down the years. Howard, Carroll, Bosnich etc.

While there is speculation and concern over DDG's long term future I would not sell Romero.

There are only a handful of goalkeepers world wide who would be a substantial improvement on Romero (Oblak, Donnarumma, Lloris and Handanovic) all of which would cost in excess of 60m in the wake of a sale of DDG (bar Handanovic due to his age) .

So selling Romero while DDG only has a year left on his contract would be very silly.

Dean Henderson has huge potential, I would tie him down to a long term contract then loan him out to further his development.

I would keep Romero for another couple of years at least if possible, or at least until it is clear that DDG will be our number one for the next 3-4 years.

4.) 07 Feb 2019 16:12:40
Keep him for two season whilst someone, maybe Henderson develops. I assume de Gea will stay.

5.) 07 Feb 2019 20:01:02
This is the first time someone is posting about Dean. I always thought that Joel is talented one with the potential to be world class.
Who amongst Joel and Dean is better in your opinion guys.

6.) 07 Feb 2019 20:40:31
Both are hugely talented, Joel Pereira was considered the more talented in his early years. But then he had a growth spurt at a younger age so he had size on his side. Yet over the last season or two I think Dean Henderson has surpassed him. Who will be the better keeper will entirely depend on who adapts best to top level football. My money at this moment in time would be on Dean Henderson.

Just to take everyone's mind off from transfers for a change, which of the football reforms would you like from all proposed ones at IFAB. Personally i would like 45 minutes halves to stay.

45 minute half to be debated at Ifab:

goo.gl/WX8L3

PR

1.) 17 Jun 2017 19:44:40
WIll be so happy if they change the time keeping, it would cut out all the nonsense time wasting that goes on and wouldn't allow a team cheating to benefit by seeing a game out time wasting and the ref doesn't bother adding anything on.

So many games last season goalkeepers took over a minute to take every goal kick and nothing is added on, we go to the game to be entertained, teams cheating doesn't entertain anybody.

2.) 17 Jun 2017 20:10:26
Good read that. I agree on nearly all the time keeping proposals. I would also let the physio on to the field of play while play continues it would cut out a lot of play acting and time wasting especially that BS of putting the ball out of play for what are nearly always non injuries.
I also love the idea of being able to dribble from a fee kick or corner. It will encourage quick takes and could be very exciting. Like a quick tap penalty In rugby.
Finally the ball having to be out of play before the final whistle would provide some excitement too and a few last gasp magic moments.

3.) 17 Jun 2017 21:28:56
Very interesting PR.

I'm not usually fan of messing with the laws of the game, it is the biggest world wide team sport for a reason!

There are lots of very good ideas in there though. The penalty rule (score or save, no follow up) is a good rule to ger rid of encrochment.

The refs could struggle with all the stop start, constant checking of the watch. But if they could make it work then the new time keeping could also be a good step forward.

4.) 17 Jun 2017 21:37:38
Most of those on that list are Byzantine .

Easy timekeeping rules:
1.Stop the clock on all head injuries
1B. Stop the clock on injuries suffered on fouls.
2.The clock stops for all substitutions.
2B. The clock stops for substitutions in second half/ extra times.

Any or all the above can easily be instituted right away as the stoppage mechanism for referees is already in place.

5.) 17 Jun 2017 22:23:08
Here's some rule changes I would like to see:

Video reffing for all offside decisions eliminating the assistant ref completely in the determination of realtive positioning when the ball is passed. On field refs concentrate on active/ inactive. Decisions could thus be made without stopping play at all.

If a player has to go off after being treated for an injury resulting from a foul, the player that fouled should go off too.

Add a sin bin possibility for certain types of foul.

6.) 18 Jun 2017 07:24:04
There's a few others to add:

1. Alice bands and man buns should be outlawed immediately.
2. Anyone who has their name on their boots should be banned for 3 games
3. Boots should be predominantly black, lime green and orange are a no no.
4. Swearing at the ref or linesman should result in an immediate red card.
5. Throw ins should be taken from where the ball went out, and stealing of yards punished by a free kick to the opposition.
6. Managers who berate the should be sent to the stands.

We also need to reinfotce the grappling rule that start last season but seemed to quickly die off. If you grab a player in the area then it is a penalty. We'd have a lot of penalties for a few weeks until players learned they needed to stop it.

7.) 18 Jun 2017 08:56:05
AJH I would only like to see the grappling rule enforced after we get rid of smalling as he has got to be amongst the worst in the league for grabbing hold. come on Woody time for Man U to offer a bogof offer. I don't care who you buy, smalling or jones, you buy one you get the other free. Gurner and grabber, it sounds like a bad 80's cop show or crappy law firm.

8.) 18 Jun 2017 09:16:13
Makes no sense to me Huggy. Smalling is the best CB in PL.

Oh wait.

01 Sep 2015 20:10:56
A clarification of De Gea deal over on the manutd.com . Papers made the club look bad when indeed it was Real Madrid that was responsible. Wonder if RM will come up with their side of story.

PR

1.) 01 Sep 2015 20:32:12
They already did come up with there side, hence why Utd have responded to tell there side.

Real won't appeal because they know they messed up.

2.) 01 Sep 2015 20:56:09
I would be great i'd De Gea turned his back on them and signed a new contract with us.

31 Aug 2015 18:57:12
I think we are moving in circles here. The so called transition period never seems to end. If we end of with Navas and Martial we will still have not strengthened. Neither Navas nor Romero is a first choice keeper. Center back needs to be addressed. Right wing and a good striker is obviously needed. And after this season we will need some one in midfield instead of carrick who will possibly overtake sweini in abt 3 yrs time. So that makes 5 players. Not being pessimist here but i think we are being mugged for this french 19 year old.

PR

1.) 31 Aug 2015 19:17:06
I'd would have rather paid the money for Austin. At least he is a proven goal scorer.

2.) 31 Aug 2015 19:22:42
Giggs said we wanted to strengthen the spine. i'm pretty sure we haven't done that any injuries in internationals we will be sweating. there's defo a circus in manchester. Few people said lvg will leve the club in a worse state than he got i'm starting to think they could be right. Just to top it all off we wanted ramos n got navas but then double his wages for the privellege. got to laugh i guess

3.) 31 Aug 2015 19:46:06
Agree that the cycle continues and that arguably we are no further forward in the process. Yes we signed a RB ( who looks excellent) but we have sold pretty much all our strikers. We signed two strong midfielders, but we have not replaced angel Dimaria, we are reliant on a main CB (smallish who despite looking like a different player is rather injury prone and we have sold our best player over the last two seasons.

Not sure that the team looks any more balanced than when we started. I personally think our business this summer has been poorly handled. All the players we wanted should have been signed before the league started.

30 Aug 2015 18:12:42
My summary: Just having a high possession statistics don't make us Barcelona or Bayern for that matter.

PR

1.) 30 Aug 2015 18:19:40
Back passes. side passes. long balls. Head of fellaini
What has changed since Moyes left??
Scared played who are behaving like they will be fined for loosing possession in little try to be creative.
Or a fat scared Rooney who just don't want to shoot. Any striker would have tried to hit that. u can't always slot with precision. best example is Gomis goal. Just run and hit bloody hell. 2 time ball got nicked from his leg in one on one situation

2.) 30 Aug 2015 18:56:50
Correct, it makes us a boring team trying to win 1-0.
Barca and Bayern keep the ball for a reason, because they know that their forwards will explode with pace, energy and skill at any moment.
We have rooney, so that's the end of that tactic!

Shaw is bang average at best. Goes forward, recieves ball and passes it back to defence or midfiled. He doesn't take on players and thus all the opposition has to do is close him down. He cannot take on defenders and cross. I cannot remember a left back with such a weak shot . It's best to leave Matic and Lingard alone. They aren't worth the time. Europa League next season would be an achievement.
