Edgar Davids the new U21 coach? Heard it hear first

RedDub

1.) Warren Joyce is the U21 coach.

2.) Sydney. Do we just have one U21 Coach these days?

Not to say I expect to See Edgar involved

3.) I expect this is the last I'll hear of it as well!

4.) Heard here first as nobody else would come up with utter rubbish

I know Evra has just signed an extension with United, but I've heard from friends (pure lunch time speculation I suspect) that he is now in talks with Juventus?

RedDub

1.) Juventus are interested in Evra.

2.) So I've heard Sydney! But if Evra was interested in Juventus, would he not have signed for them instead of extending his contract with us? Or is he doing United a "favour" so we can get something out of the deal?

3.) RD -

I'm not sure exactly how his contract was structured but there's every chance that the club had the option to extend his contract by one year and thus Evra had little choice in the matter.

I expect, however, that there's no foundation to these rumours and he agreed to stay on an extra year while Shaw settled.

Time will tell.

4.) Correct R7, MU had an option to extend by a year. Berbatov had a similar clause, now so do Shaw and Herrera.

5.) Conspiracy Theory Time!

United extended the contract forcing Evra to stay, all the while planning on using him as a make weight for a deal with Juventus for either Vidal or Pobga ;o)

Reality
I suspect it is as you suggest, that Evra is there to help Shaw settle.

6.) RedDub, it's possible, but then why would Evra in the twilight of his career waste a season playing back-up to Shaw? I think he would prefer a move to warmer climes.

7.) Syd -

Who is to say that Evra had a choice in the matter? If Evra goes we will have lost 3 lb's in 6 months and be left with no backup. I very much doubt he will leave.

8.) 02 Jul 2014 17:28:50
Evras contract was structured so at a point in time the optionwod be taken up. hence the extra year.
For Utd this does not stop them getting Shaw and leaves them with good cover if Evra stays or a transfer fee if he goes so a win win.
I could see him being used in Vidal negotiations if juve want him.
Question is do we have any decent left backs in the juniors as cover or do we look to get blind as left back/holding midfield cover if Evra goes?

9.) R7, I tend to agree, but that doesn't mean Ev doesn't want to leave. We may have triggered a clause, but he still wants to leave. I guess if we are linked to anymore LB's in the next couple of weeks, then it could be an indication. But I agree that in all likelihood he will probably remain a back-up and leave for free next summer.

Reading the every reliable MEN paper, there is a story about Real Madrid doing a big clear out this summer of 10 players. The usual lazy link of Bale to United is then made. I am not sure I want Bale at United, but that is not why I am here.

Another player linked with the exit is Modric. This one caught my attention. He would be turning 33 at the start of next season, but as a squad option, would people consider him?

RedDub

1.) 22 Nov 2017 10:24:42
Ed002 have provided good insight on Madrid rumours page, they will be big changes there, Hoping De gea doesn't end there.

Wouldnt take Modric due to age but is a very good player. We need to build for the future, there are good talents out there we should target.

2.) 22 Nov 2017 10:27:23
Wouldn’t touch bale reddub as his injuries have caught up with him. On form he’s up there with the best but he has missed something like 60 out of the last 80 games.

I saw the Modric link. Absolutely love him think he is such a classy player and always wanted him to replace Scholes when he was at spurs. I would definitely take him but he has not been great this season. Either way he would be that player that gets on the ball i'm midfield and calms the team down and sets the tempo of the team. We massively lack someone who can do that in the big games away from home.

3.) 22 Nov 2017 10:43:13
Well Modric would be a much better option than fabregas. Would be a great alternative and option for us if we are unable to get our 1st choice Savic.

4.) 22 Nov 2017 11:51:20
I would take modric 100% he is still more than caable to ply his trade in the prem. Very good short term option.

5.) 22 Nov 2017 14:15:06
We need to follow the city model which used to be our model. No point buying older players as every season you have to rebuild. We need to have top quality youngsters ie 18 to 24 who will bond grow and mature together through shared experience. The key is buying or bringing through top quality. If Madrid are getting rid of so many players it would be stupid to buy their oldest ones.

6.) 22 Nov 2017 19:38:31
We would be buying Modric whilst City integrate a young dynamic Foden, doesn’t work for me. We have cried out for pace and power so when Madrid struggle with an ageing Modric some think it is a good option. Too old now, move on.

7.) 23 Nov 2017 18:35:13
A squad needs leaders. Players who have won things and done it all before. Men who the youngsters can look up to and respect. That's why having Zlatan and Matic and Mata is important. That's why Larsson and Blanc were invaluable. When SAF retired, we had very few in the squad. I remember one time when we had something like six national team captains in one match day team.

I don't know much about Moratta other than looking watching a few YouTube video's.

From what I have read, his best days was when was in Juventus. Just wondering, how did he link up Pogba?

Can we keep that version of Ashley Young? Some performance today. If had his shooting boots on he could have easily picked up a goal to cap a brilliant performance.

RedDub

1.) 16 Apr 2017 20:19:38
He had 3 shots, maybe a hattrick 😂.
I think he was tired of all the running he did, he didn't have the focus to hit it well.

Jose Fonte has not been included in the Southampton squad for their match with Liverpool on Wednesday. (BBC)
We looked at him during the summer. Wonder where he is off to?

RedDub

1.) 09 Jan 2017 16:52:31
I would rather sign Fonte than Lindelof.
Give him 1.5/ 2.5 yr contract.
PL experienced, much cheaper, Portuguese, would not complain sitting on the bench, largely injury free and quite experienced and not too many wages.
We do tuanzebe coming up, and Jones has looked good at CB. Rojo and Smalling are excellent second choices. We should try to sign a RB over a CB in my opinion.

2.) 09 Jan 2017 18:10:45
If it was a straight choice. I'd go with lindelof, he's got the years and could become a very important defender for us for years to come.

3.) 09 Jan 2017 20:10:20
Good evening ed

What is the latest of Fonte?

Thanks

{Ed001's Note - wants to join United, Jose wants him, so it is likely he will move to United sooner rather than later.}

4.) 09 Jan 2017 23:06:48
Ed do you think if that were to happen then Lindelof would not happen

{Ed001's Note - they are unrelated.}

5.) 10 Jan 2017 00:21:41
Many contrasting reports on lindelof Ed. I presume we should still have faith in ed002s sharkopod

{Ed001's Note - it is still more likely he will sign than won't, so yes I would. The deal is certainly not dead yet.}

6.) 10 Jan 2017 06:26:45
What is your opinion on Lindelof as a player ed? (if you have seen him enough) Ed002 did say there were two issues to be resolved regarding Lindelof deal so maybe that is the reason for the hold up.

{Ed001's Note - one was resolved, if I remember correctly, but there is still one left to sort.

My opinion is probably not much use, as I have not seen a lot of him, being honest. He does look to have a lot of promise.}

7.) 10 Jan 2017 07:28:20
Thanks for the reply ed. I don't think it's the end of the world if we don't sign anyone in this window.

{Ed001's Note - you are very welcome. No, it is certainly not that, Jose has already got you going in an upward direction, so incomings are not vital. Like I said weeks ago, I still expect you to challenge for the title with the squad you have.}

8.) 10 Jan 2017 10:42:47
Are you surprised at how well Jose seems to be doing ed001? Do you think he is handling of it all is better than his handling in his 2nd term at Chelsea? I think many people believed he wouldn't be as effective.

I personally feel he has more control at Utd than he did at Chelsea due to UTD's lack of expansion since the days of fergie i. e. transfer dealings etc. I imagine more control suits jose better.

{Ed001's Note - no, to be honest I expected him to be doing better personally. I thought you were the main challenger to Citeh this year, it is his long term prospects that are the issue.}

9.) 10 Jan 2017 15:34:03
Is price the second issue ed? or something else?
Also could you tell what the first issue was ed1?
Cheers and will you be joining on the live chat on Sunday ed1?

{Ed002's Note - It is unimportant what the issues are.}

Very happy with our transfers this summer, but can't help feeling a little left out watching the window "slam" shut with any real inward activity on our end. Not even a rumour or two.

Not happy to see Schneirdlin linked with Spurs in the Mail either!

Makes perfect sense. Bale on the right. Rashford up front. Griezmann number 10. Martial on the left.

Got to love (hate) the tabloids.

RedDub

{Ed004's Note - With Pogba behind them all obviously...}

He won't go. If he is to go abroad it will be to America.

My opinion is that once Mourinho became available we were interested in him, however the board did not want to change manager mid season.

Considering Mourinho was coming off a bad stretch with Chelsea, and United were not enjoying the most fruitful of periods, combining the two (even with a January window) could have resulted in more poor results. This would have led to people questioning the board and Mourinho even more.

I believe Van Gaal is gone in the summer regardless of how he performs. Mourinho will be brought in and have a summer (interupted by the Euro's) to prepare (similar to LvG and the World Cup)

RedDub

{Ed004's Note - I am not sure it's as black and white as that. I think there is a good chance Mourinho could become manager in the summer but there are a lot more factors to take into consideration. Personally I think lvg has until the end of the season to prove to the board he is the right man and there will be others interested or approached about the job imo such as conte, blanc, allegri etc}

No idea how reliable they are, but I my own opinion is that he will be the next manager.

I feel Sanchez needs minutes with the team, so will get at least 30, it is also time to rest Lukaku and Matic.
I reckon the front 4 that finish the match on Friday could be closer to the starting 4 for Spurs
That gives fringe players a run out, but also gives Sanchez a chance to integrate with the first choice 4 (whomever that may be! )

Definitely would be a good buy, but it will depend on Griezmann and what we do there. Either signing will also have an impact on Martial / Rashford, most likely Martial.

It is not Mark Zuckerberg on his own, but an "secret" equity group he is supposed to be involved in that looked at Spurs. Or least that is my understanding of the situation.

The only link I have seen, is the Telegraph suggesting he is Mourinho's second choice DM behind Dier. As we can't get either, we are going after Matic.
He definitely has the attributes for the EPL, but as Mumbles say I have heard similar stories.
