Laurie whitwell done a piece this morning on United. Currently carrick still in charge though the ownership still haven’t decided his fate. Woeful. Apparently the main issue is financial as we are struggling to afford to sack him and pay up him and the coaches and also pay for a new manager. If that’s really the case then wth happens if we go down? Why would anyone else take the job if finances are that bad? We are an absolute joke, the rats have run us into the ground. Relegation is a real possibility and if it happens then I’m not sure what comes after. Scarey times ahead.

Does anyone actually have proper knowledge about the level of control Utds managers have had these past years.

When all is said the truth is that United have actually spent a lot of money on players. Add up the fees on Cuenha Mbwuemo Mount Sesko Santos Tielemans Baleba Yoro and it's a lot of money.

I am sure every manager at some time is refused by his board to buy a player or two

Hard questions must be asked about Carrick.

Why did he agree to the purchase of thee central midfielders when a left back was a necessity. Why did he not push for a top central defender and a striker. If he did and was rebuffed then it should have made him question his position and he should have walked away.

Asking somebody to do their job and then handicapping by depriving them of the tools they need and expecting them to succeed is irrational and cruel.

Also why is it that other teams can identify players that don't cost fortunes but who still come into the Premier League and perform at a really high level. Brighton and Brentford are especially good at this. Yes the expectation and pressure is greater at United but as Bournemouth proved it's what you do the pitch with what you have that counts.

All these issues will await the new manager if there is to be one. To expect him to get the team playing properly means being patient. He will also have to make do without being able to buy the very best players at the moment. Utds finances don't permit paying the highest fees and more importantly the very best players no longer see United as the place to be. Their view only strengthened by the abysmal way things have been at the club for the last decade.

Based on what the club have put out about the recruitment structure, ensuring (apparently) that the players brought were not for managers but for a club structure/plan I am not sure how much Carrick would have had a say. I am sure they discussed it with him and he would have had an input, but once the budget was set the midfield was the key direction to replace Casimero and add depth.
All other positions were likely coming from player sales that did not materialise.

Left Back should definitely have been addressed, however when we have Dorgu, Shaw, Amass, Dalot and Mazouiri who can all play there I can see why at the time it was lower in the priorities once the above was taken into consideration. However, with the injuries, rubbish play from replacements and lack of trust in Amass it is looking less and less like good planning.

Carrick got the players united at the end of last season and that probably papered over some cracks in quality, unfortunately we are seeing these cracks now and the players turning. If stories are to be believed, the team are not fit and the quality of training/plan is not there. you could argue their execution of it is not there either.

I think Carrick, as head coach rather than manager, had a say as to what positions needed filling but virtually no input as to who would fill them.

Yes, we had options at left back, but the first choice was Shaw who has been prone to injury, and is also aging. Dalot and Mazraoui are primarily right backs and are not good enough anyway. Dorgu is a wing back, better going forward than back, and Amass is unproven and will never be a top level EPL player. Failing to improve the back line was an incredible failure. Defense wins matches and everyone and his mother knew we were desperately deficient. I'm absolutely positive that Carrick, who actually said he was hoping for further reinforcements, and the whole team was deflated by the failure of the club to back the manager in the transfer window.

I was one that though Carrick deserved a chance, but was listening to Gary Nevile yesterday saying how he's hoped Carrick wouldn't get the job and that the club went out and got a top experienced manager. The doubters were right. The team was clearly not prepared well to face a rigorous season. The problem however was that any top manager - assuming he'd work for the evil incompetent clowns who run our club - would have insisted on being supported in acquiring best in class players rather than hit and hope middle of the roaders, or nothing at all. Our club doesn't apparently have the funds to support those types of acquisitions. The owners have priorities other than footballing quality.

Twenty years of sucking the club dry. United have spent more on finance costs, dividends and sacking managers than City brought in through sham contracts. That's a £2bn swing in cash flow. Add to that the incompetence and we are where we are.

It's past time for the fans to turn their backs.

Out of curiosity where will United finish this season? Seems you have a crystal ball if you state with 100% certainty that Amass will never be a top level EPL, without him even being given a chance.

On the running stats, l think City are well down on other too. It's not about just running its proper team coordinated running. I watched Bruno run around all over the place but its not done with purpose and support. You have to ask, were the players told to push on and close down together, was Bruno deciding this on his own or were some players just lazy to press.

It was well reported that many managers talk to their senior players about game plans and inputs etc. I still think Bruno is pissed at the contract negotiations and the offer made, probably way less that Rashfords.

Thinking about the possibility of relegation, do we have anyone we could actually sell to cushion the enormous financial blow? West Ham raised £200m during the summer. What could we get for anyone?

Maguire, Shaw, Bruno, Licha are all out of contract so the club could reduce payroll by £40m but we will still have Rashford's £15m+. Dalot has another year.

Can anyone estimate what United's revenues would fall to if the club wee relegated?

For me, new substantially debt free owners, a new manager/head coach and DOF, and a season down in the Championship is what's needed to excise the demons that haunt the club. If that happened I think the right manager would bring the club straight back to the EPL.

The problem is that the Glazers are now so tied into their land deals that getting rid of them is going to be really complicated. And, if there was a sale, given the current state of affairs, would Sir Tax Exile be able to recoup his investment.

I doubt we will get relegated. New manager will bounce us and end mid table

Saying we need a season in the championship is ludicrous. What's to say we only spend a year there?
Championship is gruelling and physical. Physicality we lack and we get injuries enough as it is without having a 46 game league.

Absolutely stupid the fans all singing Carrick name yesterday the idiots running our club will think that's an excuse to keep the cheap way out.
Its about time that people stopped living in yesteryear, like praising Carrick now, now is nothing to do with him as a player years ago.

It's about time those who calling for Heaven and Yoro to be our CBs realise neither is good enough and that Tielemans and Santos are poor and Cunha is not of required standard, even our GK is not of the required standard we have sub standard players all over the pitch we have Sun standard manager and coaches and substandard team in Ineos too, but that's no surprise to me, what does surprise me is the fools who support this lot including Carrick and the players listed above.

The team is not fit enough that's on Carrick no one else.
The team as no structure and lack of discipline and tactical play that on Carrick
The poor signings and that's everyone of them since Ineos been in certainly is on Ineos.
Hearing Howe wants his own coaching team and United want him to have there crap.

No manager either his sorts will not want there own team.
Not a chance we get relegated probably end up mid table, but supporters. especially those on here need to get real and understand how poor our individual players are instead of getting all bitter when facts are pointed out to them.
We don't have one CB at the club worthy of the name.
Not one striker either.
And now we have no midfield either.
Plus one GK who ideally is a back up keeper.
That's how low we become.

I think people hoping for a reset in the Championship should be careful what they wish for.
Can you honestly see the bulk of this squad having the heart for a battle on a rainy Wednesday night at Stoke? I'd have serious doubts we'd get out straight away. Tough, tough league.

I don't think we'll get relegated, by the way.

So with all that you've said there, bless us with your solution je suis.

Ports, that won't take long, they could write all their wisdom on a postage stamp 😂.

We were always in trouble when our defence wasn't addressed in the Summer, Maguire isn't and never was a 70 million player, he maybe a great guy and good with others but he's nowhere near the level required Dalot and Shaw should have been replaced years ago too. We have 2 promising players in Yoro and Heaven and while they make mistakes they have no one guiding them, hopefully a full fit DeLigt will help them.

I really think 2 defenders LB and CB plus cover at CF would transform the squad given the right players and Manager. Just don't see Howe getting the respect from the players, l think Naglesman has managed at the highest level with Bayern and German plus he has a reported good working relationship with Vivell, might just by pass Wilkox completely.

25 Oct 2026 16:44:28
Could we get Casemiro back please.

1

25 Oct 2026 17:14:55
We got 3 players in none of them fit enough to lace Cass boots even an aging one. that shows how bad the summer buys were
Even last summers buys were low rent.
Cunha level is Wolves.

2

25 Oct 2026 17:32:37
Cunha Mbwuemo Tielamans Amad Baleba Yoro Lammens Bruno Mainoo all not terrible players. They should be performing better.

5

25 Oct 2026 17:36:38
Maybe Bruno and mainoo are the only ones you could imagine playing for a top 4 side. The rest are average players at best mid table squad players.

2

25 Oct 2026 18:37:47
Cunha is playing outside of his position, he's not LW/LM. Mbeumo is the best as CF, he's mostly playing on the right. Two players up front who should be the most important are out of their position. As for the new guys, I think they can't believe where they have arrived and it obviously affects their performances.

I'm not taking the blame away from the players, but when everything else is rotten, you can't expect them to be at their best.

1

25 Oct 2026 18:50:50
We were crap with Casemiro too. And Inter Maiami started to lose the time Casemiro went there. Its a beautiful story with Casemiro and all this but i think is not the case.

6

26 Oct 2026 06:20:15
Cas's spirit was good, particularly, in his last season. His connection with Bruno and his goals were vital. Those two drove the team on, masking both the defensive and Carrick's deficiencies. The ownership then failed to cough and buy the best players in class, choosing instead to spend £130m on land and interest payments.

Casemiro had a mixed time at OT, but he went out on a high. There's a good case can be made that he was the engine that drove the team on, and Bruno was the principal beneficiary.

26 Oct 2026 06:50:10
Perhaps all those that keep calling for York and Heaven as CBs going forward will now realise just how poor both are and nowhere near required level
Same with Tielemans and Santos
Cunha not much better
Memo os never ever a centre forward he is ok from right that's about it
Laments not even required level when you all eventually realise that the better.

2

26 Oct 2026 10:01:50
York laments the memo about marching up the hill.

0

26 Oct 2026 09:47:27
Mbuemo surely can't be a centre forward? I've seen enough of him and Cunha. Not up to it or not good enough you decide . Much like the rest of the first team.
It's time Bruno left now. His petulant behaviour that until now only seemed to on the pitch is now spilling out.

Don't even get me started on the absolute crap we signed this summer.
Wilcox and that bald twat next to him need to leave and take the crap signings with them.

1

25 Oct 2026 15:57:11
Wow, that was bad.
I was wrong. I really had hoped Carrick had it in him but that was a disaster.
Howe next I guess. Emery would be mad to accept it mid season if ever.

2

25 Oct 2026 16:14:55
Emery would be mad to accept anytime, we've got nothing left except the name and the history.

25 Oct 2026 16:27:46
I seem to have a feeling of deja vu. This is a re-run of what happened after Busby, manager after manager until Ferguson got lucky and United got some stability. Will they never learn?

4

26 Oct 2026 13:05:58
Part of the reason it happened after Busby was because Busby didn't walk away when he finished as manager, and then Ferguson did exactly the same.

25 Oct 2026 15:36:08
Thank god we are having a defensive overhaul NEXT summer .think there might be 1 or 2 that needs replacing 🤦🏼‍♂️🫣🤡.

2

25 Oct 2026 15:40:41
They should have sacked Carrick on Wednesday night, they didn't because wilcocks is trying to save himself too. This game needed a new manager and see if a bounce will happen. unfortunately its chelsea next and another hammering.
Utd will finish in bottom 3, that is clear and obvious. championship is a certainty now.

5

25 Oct 2026 15:48:35
Can't argue mate we are easily the worst team in the division. Last time we were down in this position we weren't in any real danger as the teams below us were awful .not now!

1

25 Oct 2026 16:17:54
Only hope and I mean its blind hope is its so bad but United somehow ain't bottom 3.my further hope is its 8 games in and a new manager might just get a bounce for 10 games.

but its blind hope and i'm coming round to the reality that United will be in the championship next season..not sure under this ownership United can be sorted. Too much of a mess now.

1

25 Oct 2026 17:16:12
They won't go down and will finish mid table but it's an awful squad from GK onwards.

2

25 Oct 2026 21:14:54
Not sure. mid table seems a gaint success at the moment. Just can't see where a win will come from. utd are absolutely friggin awful.

25 Oct 2026 12:44:24
Can someone please explain to me how Eddie Howe is and advancement on Carrick and how he would change the fortunes of the team? Are there legs in this rumour or is the media just winding up? I'm at a loss.

2

25 Oct 2026 13:58:03
He's undoubtedly an upgrade. Plays better football, teams are attacking, and can manage under a budget.

I'm not saying he's who I'd be pleased with, but he's who we are likely to appoint and will have the team more organised than Carrick.

1

25 Oct 2026 15:07:25
He's definitely better but still nowhere near good enough to get us back to challenging for titles.

Wilcox probably adopt his transfer strategy ie change a bit at a time. Get a slightly better manager and hope there is an improvement and then if reaches a ceiling go again and get another manager.. Only problem is this method has failed spectacularly.

1

25 Oct 2026 16:21:25
If my daily turnout grew legs, arms, a head and a heartbeat, it would be better than Carrick.

He is, without a shadow of any doubt, the worst manager we have ever had in my opinion.

I do take you point though, he strikes me as another yes man. We don't need yes men, they get us nearer the championship than champions.

0

25 Oct 2026 17:17:20
Howe is far better then Carrick but he is not what we need, we need someone who done it as a player and manager and Conte is available so that's where I would go because Emery ain't coming.

0

25 Oct 2026 12:59:34
Well, Fernandes and Martinez both dropped to the bench.

Yoro and Heaven both playing with Harry and Dalot.

Santos, Baleba, Mount and Tielmans, Amad and Mbuemo.

There has to be significant reaction from everyone.

Think we could see some significant departures in January.
